The hotel is very clean, and the location is excellent.
However, the service from the staff [Santiago] at the front desk is extremely poor and rude. Their treatment of foreign guests feels rude and despicable.
After reading previous reviews, I noticed that there are more than a few complaints about the same staff member’s rude and deplorable service. The hotel is very clean, with great facilities and an excellent location, but the poor service urgently needs improvement.
I encountered [Santiago] at the hotel. During my two-day stay, I registered for a parking pass but later changed my mind and asked if I could switch to a one-day pass. The pass for today was already in use, but the one for tomorrow was unused, so I inquired about it. I was told it wasn’t possible due to regulations, which I fully understand.
However, I pointed out that I wasn’t informed about this policy at the time of payment. In response, Santiago said, “That’s because you didn’t ask. If you had asked, I would’ve told you.”
From that point on, despite understanding my English perfectly well up until then, he started responding to everything I said in English with “What? What? What?” while gesturing as if he couldn’t understand. I had to repeat myself multiple times until he understood, only for him to immediately respond with “What? What? What?” again as soon as I said something else. It was truly humiliating.
I’ve traveled to many hotels and have never been treated this way. I’m an international student, and this is the first time I’ve ever experienced someone repeatedly saying “What? What? What?” as if they couldn’t understand my English.
At the time, I tried to let it go, but as I walked away, I noticed him glaring at me in a way that seemed hostile, and I realized this was completely unacceptable. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever written a review like this. I’ve experienced subpar service at other places before, but this experience was genuinely insulting and humiliating. It was the worst.
When I asked for his name to write a review, he just pointed to his name tag and said, “It’s right here, write it down.” The name was written in small text, so I asked if he could type it for me, but he replied, “I’m not touching your phone.” When I asked him to say his name instead, he ignored me and told me to step aside for the next guest. I’m not sure if his name is Santiago, but his service was absolutely dreadful.
If you’re going to serve foreign guests, you shouldn’t act like this. How can someone respond with “What? What? What?” in such a way? This is truly despicable behavior.
If my English were truly incomprehensible, I might understand, but I’m an international student and have never had an experience like this before. I am working in a research lab, engaging in weekly discussions on molecular biology and biochemistry with PhD students and professors, even then, I’ve never had an issue like this.
He understood my English perfectly well until I said, “I feel so bad about your what you just said. Are you in charge here?” Why would he suddenly not understand my English after that?
This service urgently needs...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center for a week on business. If I ever have to stay in downtown ATL again, I will be staying here. The staff provided exceptional customer service and my room and the common areas I visited were among the cleanest hotels I've visited.
As far as the staff, each person I requested assistance from throughout my stay went above and beyond to help me and did so with kindness. When I first arrived, I needed assistance with the parking kiosk, and Jaylen, who works the front desk was extremely helpful and welcoming. The kiosk requires you to scan a QR Code that the hotel texts to your phone. The code on my phone wouldn't work--I realized later that it was how I angled my phone. But, Jaylen and his manager, Carrington offered to print the code on paper for me instead of me having to go up to the business center and do it myself. I also purchased groceries for the week and stored perishable items in the fridge. I didn't realize it, but overnight the first night, the fridge went out. The staff quickly replaced the fridge the next morning and after I inquired, they covered the cost of the perishable items that I lost. My suitcase also broke that first day, requiring me to order another one. Later that week, they graciously handled the delivery.
For the room, I stayed in a two queen standard room. The room was spacious and included a mini fridge, safe, smart tv, and various other up-to-date amenities. There isn't a microwave, but a common one is available on the first floor. The room was pretty quiet with the exception of one night or so where the people in one of the neighoring rooms were shouting for a bit. Other than that, sleep was pretty solid.
Parking is provided at a rate of $21/day at its attached garage, which is a short walk to the hotel. This is a lot cheaper than many other hotels in the area.
The surrounding area is active and appears to be relatively safe and quiet, being that it is part of the Georgia Tech campus. There are a number of restaurants in walking distance. The hotel provides a breakfast and lunch buffet for $16 and $18, respectively. I tried the lunch buffet one day, and it had a good selection of hot and cold food items. There is also a made-to-order station where you can request sandwiches and burgers.
Overall, I thoroughly...
Read moreMy wife and I recently used the GTH&CC as our wedding block and we could not be happy with that decision. The hotel has an event manager that we worked with, Edie, who was a delight and so helpful as we went through the process. We also worked closely with AJ from the event team, and have the same wonderful thoughts about her.
We had about 60+ people stay here in about 35ish rooms and it was such a great experience. All of our guests had wonderful things to say about the wedding block booking portal, check-in, how beautiful the rooms and hotel design was, how great the bar & club room was, how delicious the breakfast buffet was, how easy the parking was in the garage, and a great location in the city and to our venue (the Fernbank Museum) it was.
My wife stayed in the Presidential Suite, along with the extra adjoining bedroom. This was perfect as her bridal suite too with how spacious it was and that she, her 7 bridesmaids, and a few others could all be in there with the hair & makeup team to get ready. Even with all of those people and the catering, it did not feel crowded. It was also nice as this was the room we stayed in after our wedding, and it was so nice to have a space to relax in after the wedding and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning.
I stayed in the Junior suite the night before, and it was perfect for me and my groomsmen and the dad's to hang out and get ready.
Beyond the rooms, we also had a post-wedding breakfast in the dining area the next morning. It was a perfect way to see our guests before they all traveled home. The bar & club room was also great as we worked with the hotel to host a welcome party there the Friday night before our wedding.
I really don't have anything negative or constructive to say about our stay and highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a great hotel block...
