BoccaLupo may seem modest from its exterior, but once you cross the threshold you find yourself in a truly elevated dining experience. The GM Shannon did an excellent job of making you feel welcomed, giving you a hint of the amazing service to come. While waiting for our table to be completely set, we sat outside on their front patio where we were served cocktails that seem to break the laws of reality. A bourbon with miso coming to you looking as clear as water, yet the flavors pronounced and deep. A tzatziki drink, again coming out as clear as water but with a scent that can’t be confused with anything else but tzatziki… however you take a sip and it has this beautiful sweetness about it that is refreshing.
Once we were seated, the fun really began. We had an amazing server, Emily, who knew the menu and described it in a way that made your mouth water. When she described the tasting menu of the evening, I couldn’t even hear the price because I was so vividly imagining the food with the description she provided.
Now to the food! The antipasti was incredible, our table had the pleasure of trying 5 different antipasti and all of them were incredibly unique and beautifully plated. The flavor profile of each one being absolutely remarkable. I don’t think I could choose a favorite because they all were special and delicious in their own way. Some folks at our table weren’t fans of fish, but the crudo and octopus were a hit even with them.
Onto the Entrees! Majority of our table tried the different entrées available. I had the goat cheese ravioli which was complimented by the cooked apples that added a complimentary flavor to the very clearly fresh goat cheese ravioli. My partner had the bolognese, while being a very safe dish to get at an Italian restaurant, the quality of it made it stand out against every other bolognese I’ve had. One of us had the pleasure of ordering the tasting menu which was a next level experience from course 1 to course 4. Starting with a takoyaki with a beautiful piece of raw salmon on top. Then onto a black noodle in a creamy corn and onion sauce for the second course. Then the third course, perfectly made Wagyu with broccolini, pesto, gnocchi. And a wonderful apple pastry that again was perfectly baked. Big kudos to the baker working in the kitchen!
And most importantly a big thank you to Kim, the chef who was responsible for making sure the pasta was perfectly cooked. As all our dishes were centered around pasta there was a lot riding on their skills and they did not disappoint in the slightest.
Definitely will not be the last time I enjoy dinner...
Read moreWow. I finally made it to BoccaLupo, and the food lived up to all the high expectations friends have set up for me. I didn't try the dishes they recommended me, I decided to go with the daily chef's tasting menu, but now I have another great reason to come back!
My husband and I absolutely loved everything we ate during our evening, except for the crispy breadsticks served at the beginning. The breadsticks were just so so, but the rest was balanced, flavorful, and perfect.
My husband and I both got the tasting menu, so we were served the dishes family style, assumedly with both portions on the same large plate. Before we got to course #3, my husband decided he wouldn't be full enough after our tasting menu meal, so he ordered the pappardelle, as well. He was right. With the addition of the papperdelle, we were both well satisfied as we left the restaurant. I also had a Straw-Barry White cocktail, which was like an exciting version of a strawberry limeade.
The courses from our tasting menu included the following: Appetizer - crispy duck confit with cabbage over the first asparagus of the season with seared gnocchi Second course - wide fettucini with a pomodoro sauce with ginger and garlic, muscles, and two small potato spheres Third course - juvenile pork that was milk roasted with the drippings made into a sauce with a pasta I don't remember the name of and baby kale Dessert - the nicest, smoothest "pecan pie," which was more like a lovely funnel cake with candied pecans on top with caramel flavored gelato
Oh my goodness, it's torture looking through my food pictures and remembering each of the dishes without having the food right in front of me. Course after course was delightful, new, and fresh. The dessert was amazing. Not too sweet, just harmony. Dang, I wish I could go back right now for that pecan pie!
We sat at the edge of the porch in the last light of the day. The rest of the porch atmosphere was so so, but I think that coming with a larger group or sitting inside would be a bit nicer of an atmosphere. The food, though, is what you should come for. It was absolutely wonderful, and I can't...
Read moreI come to Atlanta for work once and year so I keep a running list of restaurants that I want to try. BoccaLupo has been on my list for several years and I finally pulled the trigger and went. We had a reservation for 4 people on Wednesday evening at 6:45. Do note that they will not seat you until your entire party arrives, no exceptions. Our table was in the back on what seemed to be a heated enclosed patio area. Our waiter brought us the menus as walked us through the cocktail list.
If there was one thing we didn’t enjoy about our dining experience it was the cocktail menu. There are punny names with inside jokes and no description about what the cocktails basically at all. You have to ask your server for descriptions of each drink which does tend to get tedious if you order several rounds. That being said, our waiter was delightful and went through the descriptions as many times as needed as well as making good suggestions on both cocktails and food items. Favorite cocktails of the night were the “What Are You, the Police?” and “Doom Scrolling”
For dinner we ordered entirely too much food to share. We had the ceviche, tuna crudo, tricolore salad, mushroom tagliatelle, pappardelle bolognese, goat cheese ravioli, black spaghetti, beef cheek ravioli and mafaldine cacio e Pepe. Did we over do it? Sure, but there were just so many items that we wanted to try! Everyone at the table had a different favorite dish but we really loved all of them. The food here is OUTSTANDING. My personal favorites were the salad, beef cheek ravioli and mushroom tagliatelle.
For dessert we ordered the skillet cookie and the Basque cheese cake. They were both a hit but the skillet cookie was sensational.
It’s going to be really hard for me to choose a new restaurant next time that I come to town instead of coming back here every time. The menu changes frequently so I probably wouldn’t be able to order something that we loved this time, but I know there would be new favorites. If this was in my city I would be coming here all...
