Killer food and great drinks - highly recommend trying to sneak into a spot at the bar! Key menu clarification bowls = soup.
While we couldn't secure a reservation we were able to snag a great spot at the bar - and staff was really helpful in getting us one. This turned out to be really fun due to the great nature of the bar staff and welcome camaraderie of the patrons also dining in the bar.
Food and service were overall really awesome, the one main knock was the misrepresentation/misunderstanding with the menu as related to the "bowls". That said we'll still give 5 stars for overall experience and food quality.
We started with wings (G-Dub style) - which were really solid and highly enjoyed. The only setback with these was they came similarly timed with the food so we were through less than half before our main food arrived. In the grand scale not a big problem to have but it becomes a question of what food do you go to first and what food do you let get cold? For our main courses I had the Too Beaucoup burger (great FMJ reference) which was absolutely incredible! It was amazingly cooked and incredibly topped. In fact I'll gladly say it was one of the best burgers I'd had in a long while (and I pride myself in seeking out good burgers)!
The low point of the meal was my wife's order of the Pork Green Chile Bowl. The bowl of food that came out was good, but the problem for her was the misinterpretation of what a "bowl" entailed. While she planned on something that would be similar to a noodle-based Asian bowl, a rice-based Mexican bowl, or even a seasoned rice/hummus-based Middle Eastern bowl, what she got was a bowl of soup. Yes, it was in a bowl, but based on the description of "Pork shoulder, fire roasted green chiles, fresh tomatillos and roasted corn topped with melted cheddar-jack, sour cream, scallions and corn chips," she assumed it was something more than just soup in a bowl. Needless to say it was just a nice bowl of white bean chili with green chiles, but nothing to write home about.
Again, food and drinks were really amazing (aside from the bowl misunderstanding). We loved the experience, and we'd gladly try some of their other amazing sounding foods, we just wouldn't order a bowl of...
Read moreWe were looking for a great hamburger and the concierge at our resort recommended we go to the Blue River Bistro when we went there were told they don't serve hamburgers after 4 and referred us to Canteen as they said they served "mean hamburgers." We walked over to Canteen and were so glad that we did. We arrived at 8:55 and the hostess who was also our waitress very politely handed us a menu and asked us to try to make a decision soon so she could turn in the order with the kitchen before they closed down. We had just come back from a strenuous 6 mile hike and my sense weren't about me. My daughter and I gave her our order. My daughter's hamburger was cooked to perfection and her fries were delectable. I ordered the Caesar salad with Chicken and it was the best I've ever had. The dressing is refreshing and had a great taste to it. The chicken was cooked to perfection as it was juicy and seasoned perfectly. Our waitress, Julia A, was extremely friendly and attentive. She never made us feel bad about arriving so close to closing as most hostesses probably would have. I'm sorry again for not realizing that we arrived so close to closing. As my daughter and I sat enjoying our meal the employees were very friendly, upbeat with not only us but also with the other employees. We felt bad for our late arrival and left a tip for the cooks and tipped our waitress more than the customary 20% as they merited it. Keep your cooks and your employees (cooks, Julia, bartender I didn't get his name but he was super nice) they are an asset to your restaurant! Thanks again for your friendly and attentive service and...
Read moreThe tap house that was recommended to us was closed so we headed a block north and found this gem. Great ambiance, had Monday night football on the TV which I certainly appreciated. We were seated immediately and the menu was impressive. It’s a biggin’ but that’s because there’s a lot of choices. Great choices and very diverse. We started with the bacon-Wrapped shrimp. A little pricey for 3 shrimp but they were amazing. Bacon was crisp which is generally hard to do when you use it as a wrapping but these guys figured out how to do it. The cream sauce was perfect. I ordered the flat bread carnivore. Delicious. I also ordered a bowl of the green chili because I always try it when restaurants offers it. It was soooo GOOD. I’ve had a lot of green Chile, this stuff was amazing. Perfect heat and consistency. Bravo. My daughter order the chicken fingers. Usually not a big deal. Overcooked dry breasts. Not here, the breading was light and the chicken was sooo tender. Impressive that the kids menu has that much attention paid to it. My son ordered a cheeseburger, it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Fries were great, perfectly salted. Wife had Korean bbq tacos. They were also as good as everything else. Food was delivered in probably 10 minutes. Waitress was attentive and fun. I have nothing to complain about here. Thanks for...
