Location: Absolutely fantastic for walking/biking to venues/attractions/eateries and hopping onto one of the free shuttles through downtown Chattanooga. I felt very safe during my stay there.
Building: The building exterior much resembles an oversized college dorm building, but the interior design is tastefully done and features several lovely eateries. The porte-cochères was spacious and convenient for shaded unloading/loading of cars. Elevators were prompt; just remember to use your hotel card on the reader to go up to your floor. The fitness center was clean when we went there and stocked with plenty of treadmills, cycling machines, a rowing machine, a good amount of weights, and some other miscellaneous items. Disposable cups are readily available by the bottle-compatible water dispenser; I’d recommend bringing ice with you though, as the dispensed water is room temperature. They no longer have a pool; apparently, the pictures of the pool as shown on Google/travel sites are from some time before their remodeling.
Parking: We had selected valet parking since we were bringing a lot of stuff with us and wanted our car parked in a higher trafficked area for security. In retrospect, I would have parked my own car in the garage because valet kept my car outside in direct sun during the hot, sunny days while shaded spots were available. The hotel had plentiful self-parking available in a separate covered garage that was a short walk from the hotel. I noticed that some guests parked at the public street parking spots, which might have been cheaper than the $16/day for the garage.
Rooms: Clean and thoughtfully laid out. We stayed on the fourth floor on the non-courtyard side and enjoyed a lovely view of the Chattanooga Choo Choo (historical location). The AC worked well. I do wish there were centralized light switches so that I didn’t have to walk to every light fixture and muck around trying to find its respectful switch. While we didn’t have any issues sleeping through the night, we were able to hear one of our neighbors sneeze while in the room.
Bathrooms: Shower water pressure was great, and the hot water came out quickly. There are no fans in the bathroom though, which may pose a problem in the future for the hotel as steam moisture continues to enter the rest of the hotel room.
Bed: The king-sized mattress was some type of comfortable memory foam. However, the overfilled hard pillows are a terrible choice to pair with those beds, as the mattress molds around your body but the unyielding pillow forces your head and neck into an awkward angle. I slept a lot better and woke up with a non-sore neck after getting rid of their pillows.
Service: Fine. I had no issues requesting housekeeping or additional items as needed.
Pet Review: My cat approves of the sunlight that filtered through the trees outside into the warm patch on the carpet. I appreciated that there were nooks under the furniture he could hide in to feel safe but simultaneously prevented him from going into crevices that would have made it difficult...
Read moreMy wife and I have significant travel experience staying at hotels from all major providers at all service/quality levels. This stay was our initial stay at a Hilton Curio Collection hotel, and we were especially interested in the Curio aspect of this hotel to see if we would like to stay at hotels in the future with some type of historical significance that have been acquired/restored by Hilton. A summary of our experience at the Chattanoogan Hotel is: When we initially arrived at the Chattanoogan, we were greeted by two young attendants who assisted us with moving our luggage from our vehicle to our room and provided valet parking. They were very congenial and assisted us well without any expectation of tipping from us (we were pleased to provide them a tip for their assistance). The front desk personnel took time to volunteer various services available at the hotel and how to avail ourselves of those services. We are senior citizens who have some mobility issues due to recent surgical procedures. While special accommodation rooms are available at the hotel, all of those were booked during our stay. We are pleased to report that the "normal" room where we stayed met our special accommodation needs (walk-in shower, rails in the bathroom, etc.). We were attending a special concert in the evening when we arrived, and the front desk assisted us in ordering Lyft transportation to and from the concert venue. Our room was a single, king bed normal guest room (that was identical to the hotel's promo photos), and was more spacious than similar format rooms in more modern hotel brands. The room was both clean and well-organized. We were particularly impressed by the climate control system, in that it kept our room very comfortable the entire stay and was totally unobtrusive (no "noises" when the unit engaged, etc. to interrupt our rest). The bed (mattress) we used was extremely comfortable and afforded us the opportunity to have a restful night. We are lifetime Gold Hilton members now and had been Hilton Diamond members earlier in my career when I was a frequent business traveler, and we used the breakfast credits offered by the hotel at the restaurant. While there were a number of guests joining us for breakfast in the restaurant, the environment is quiet enough to enjoy pleasant conversation with your travel companion, and the food was well prepared and satisfying. At checkout, the front desk personnel and parking attendants were pleasant and helpful, as they were when we initially had arrived. In summary, our overall experience at the Chattanoogan Hotel was "as good as it gets" in today's hospitality environments. This was an initial "try out" stay for us at a Hilton Curio Collection property, and based on this experience, we would not only gladly return to this property; but also, will actively seek out other Curio Collection properties as a preferred hotel choice...
Read moreWe came here on our last day of our vacation as we stayed in Chattanooga for a whole week. We were actually staying in a Homewood suites as we did not really know where to stay as we were exploring what Chattanooga has to offer. We came here in the evening to check out the restaurant after exploring the downtown area to have a nice dinner. The location is excellent very close to a lot of places like the Choo Choo and different walkable areas nearby. We came here for the restaurant and we did a little bit of exploring inside which was really nice. Can't really comment on how nice the facilities are completely as we did not stay here. Anyway going back to the restaurant the food was good. The drinks were reasonable and this night we came they had different flights for drinks which was very good price and I got all the flights while sharing with my wife as well. The appetizer was good as we ordered the focaccia bread but the weird part it's not really focaccia but it was good nonetheless. My wife got the pasta in which she said was good and I got the salmon if I'm not mistaken and that was pretty good as well. We got the dessert which was very interesting does it look like a real fruit but it was actually mousse which was great as it was not so sweet but had a good balance. The bonus was the live jazz band as they were awesome and even played one of our songs from our wedding and did their own rendition as they took our request. It would have been five stars from me but one thing that bothered me was our waiter as he started out great and then for some reason his service started tapering off maybe he got tired as the night went on? Anyway the one thing where I docked the stars was when I was paying the bill which was about $130ish, I paid with my Hilton credit card and also added a $50 Hilton gift card. The waiter came back and charged everything on my Hilton credit card and said that their machine was having an issue of taking in the gift card and immediately left our table which was strange. I was thinking twice to call the manager as maybe our waiter didn't know how to use or apply a Hilton gift card to our bill. But I didn't want to cause too much commotion as me and the wife were having a great night and left it alone. Please make sure you train your staff on how to process a gift card for Hilton as we are planning to come back a second time over here and this time we're going to stay in the hotel. And I will update this review to make sure that I cover everything from the restaurant to the hotel stay and...
