Read moreThe Pickle Barrel in Chattanooga, Tn, is this old pie slice shaped building at the end of a block where two buildings come together at odd angles. This place has been on my list to visit for years, probably 15 years. The building catches your eye from the car every time you pass by. It doesn't fit with the surrounding architecture. It's much older, sorta unchange from a different century. At least that's the feel from the street. Once inside, you feel like you just stepped into an old pub in the 1800s. The place feels tight, tables along two walls that meet at the narrow booth in the window at the end of the pie shape. Everything very feels close, sorta gritty cozy. The windows on the outside are old single square panes with a pane of stained glass over them. Everything is perfect for a building this old. There is a single waitress working all of the tables downstairs and sh occasionally runs up the spiral stair to the roof dining area. Service is slow, but that's ok. The place screams, relax, stay a while, have a couple of drinks. Ok, enough, it's an awesome place to grab lunch, but don't plan to be in a hurry. There is a bar with seating for maybe 6 and some standing space for casual lunch drinkers. You come here because you always have or for the atmosphere. The menu is typical bar fare and reasonably priced. I had chili and a BLT, my wife's fish, and chips. The portions are manly and were well prepared. It's not fancy, it's good. If you aren't local, you have to plan to get here with purpose. They close early, around 3, so you have to fit your schedule into their day, not the other way round. For me, with every new dining place being polished, cold, felling empty with no soul and serving overpriced average food, this place is a gem. It isn't trying to pretend to be what it isn't. It is genuine and I miss that. We had a great hour in your fine establishment. Your staff was friendly and accommodating with a smile. We only wish we...
Read moreYou are not secure in your papers if you go there. The doorman scans your driver's license into a database if you go there. Who knows what they do with that information. I have no problem showing my identification but I do have a problem for it to be scanned into a computer database without my prior knowledge until it was happening. BEWARE. THe staff took 45 minutes to bring a menu then another 15 minutes to take our order due to them being focused on trying to flirt with female customers. Once food finally arrived waited 15 minutes on salt and pepper to be able to start eating our Now Cold food. Sandwich was supposed to have thousand Island dressing on it but it didn't have any on it so I asked for some in the side to correct the problem myself but then was charged extra for something that it was supposed to have on it. Brought it to the attention of the employee and he said he did not know but failed to offer to correct the extra charge went ahead and paid it other than having to mess with it. Their signature house roast beef for the sandwich was like fillet of work boots very tough and not very flavorful hence the need for a lot of salt to be able to eat it. The couple shining stars of food are the pierogies and the french fries the french fries are like a petal-shaped fry that is very unique. $26 for one person another table got the mozzarella cheese sticks and they were huge at one point stretched out 3 ft wide as they pulled apart the cheese unfortunately did not catch that one on camera. This is a older building with some great unique options the second floor is not accessible due to spiral staircase access only and a step that you may trip and fall when entering onto the upstairs...
