The pictures of the exterior caught my wife and my eye when we were looking for hotels near Niagara. What I didn't realize was just HOW CLOSE it is to Niagara. We saw the rapids easily from the family room of the Stratford Suite. We loved it! Our 16yo and 7yo were disappointed that it wasn't one of the modern hotels we saw nearby with a pool and all of the amenities that those huge hotel chains have at their Anytown, USA location. This stay was unique!
The Stratford is a 2-bedroom suite. One thing I didn't think about before arriving (but did after staying at a different hotel the night before) was that there is obviously no elevator. The place was built in the early 20s and that gives it the charm but... there isn't en elevator. So I had to lug up suitcases for the three women in my family. Not a HUGE deal but a slight inconvenience. The suite had two beautiful bedrooms, a kitchen, and a sitting room overlooking the rapids.
I called ahead of time to check if they have a pool and they do not. Since we were staying two nights before this stop and three nights after this stop in other hotels with pools, my wife and I decided it wasn't that important to stay at such a beautiful hotel. We didn't go wrong and no one missed the pool!
The restaurant I wasn't sure about reading reviews prior to arriving. The first night we were all just tired from a long day so we decided for the convenience of the restaurant onsite. Service was slow but it was probably more my anxiousness and hunger so lets just call it relaxed. The restaurant has a bavarian feel to it on the inside. There is outdoor seating but it was mostly full so we opted for inside. The food was excellent! Breakfast the next morning we sat outside and there did appear to be a yellow jacket problem which was mostly a problem for our 7yo. They quickly offered to move us inside which fixed the problem. Breakfast was included with the room which was nice. The second night the family wanted Rainforest Cafe (1:45 wait on a Tuesday night!) or Hard Rock Cafe (1 hour wait) so we opted to go back to the restaurant onsite. I was torn between two dishes and asked the waitress about the meatloaf. She told me outright that it's normally good but that she had brought back 3 meatloafs in the past day or two from complaints so I opted for something else that was amazing. I appreciate the honesty!
Through the hotel's website, they offered the tours I would be doing anyway; Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds. The price was better than individually so I did it. They offer it through a tour group which I didn't realize ahead of time. I'd suggest maybe calling them a day or two in advance so they can make the arrangements. We arrived shortly after 5PM and the girl at the front desk was slightly worried that she'd be able to get a tour operator on the line for the next day. It worked out ok and they picked us up and dropped us off right at the front door to the hotel which was very convenient. The tour arranged all of the tickets and everything. There was a line for about an hour to get on Maid of the Mist simply because of reduced capacity due to COVID.
Great hotel, great experience, I would return in a heartbeat. Very much...
Read moreIve heard they say, 'Niagra Falls is for Lovers' & they couldnt be more right! After being told at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio theres no hope for treating your stage 4 cancer, go home & do chemo & you may get 1 more year of life, my husband and I decided to not go home. We drove to Niagra Falls as if we could just keep driving, away from this bad news & he found The Red Coach Inn online. Hes more of a modern decor type guy, but he knows I love history & antiques, so he booked there to surprise me. We easily checked into our suite, there was a beautiful cheese plate & champagne waiting for us in the mini fridge. The room was magnificent in old world decor, clean, & classical music playing softly on the radio. We opened the window & could hear the crashing & fury of Niagra Falls rushing over the edge of the cliff nearby, like my life felt, at the end of all things. It was magnificent, the spirit of the falls, being so close to it. That night, we sat at the 1920's bar, back in time, no tv's to distract, an ambiance that takes you to a time where horse-drawn wagons might be parked just outside. They still have a horse post at the front door. We were served by the best bartender, the Great Kimberly, the most Kimmest Kim Ive ever met. She was real, funny, introduced us to other travelers at the bar, had the best conversations, and invited us to come back. Her cocktails were perfectly mixed, though coming from Wisconsin, my hubby explained the Brandy Old Fashioned. Kims old fashioneds were better. The food was VERY good. The breakfasts on the patio were busy of course in the morning, but the servers were so kind, thoughtful, and attentive. We did wait to be seated because theyre packed, but once youre in, its top notch and worth the wait. The soaps in the rooms are nice as well & I liked the cozy robes they provided. We stayed 4 days. The inn is right next to Goat Island, walked to the falls, to the restauraunt at the falls US side, saw the Nikola Tesla statue, & fed the seagulls. The Beauty was completely overwhelming & just what we needed. We checked out easily and drove home through Canada. The Spirit of Niagra Falls mustve jumped into mine, as my latest scan shows 50% shrinkage and no new signs of disease. My heart & soul was moved & I will be back next year, the future is wide open. Thank you to everyone at The Red Coach Inn. Keep being top-Notch. Youre a treasure...
Read moreWe had dinner here for the first night of our honey moon and the food was totally subpar. I had the Pork Normandy which was supposed to be served with shallots, mushrooms, and apple glaze. The pork chops came out smothered in a brown gravy, and the meat was still overcooked and dry!! The âcreamyâ mashed potatoes were dry and crumbly. My bride had the shrimp blush. The shrimp were gray and undercooked and not sautĂ©ed. The âblushâ sauce tasted like jazzed up jar sauce. It had very little of the fresh ingredients the menu boasts. The quality of food does NOT warrant the menu prices!
The only thing that was good with our meals, were half of the string beans that came with my pork, and only half because they were mushy and overcooked.
I feel like this is a restaurant that flourishes on the fact that their clientele is a revolving door. Most of their diners will only be there once and will not take the time to post a bad experience. So they skate by on mediocrity. We sat across from a group of young guys who probably loved their meals because they didnât t know any better. The managers excuse was that âthey hadnât any any complaints all nightâ my response âwell thereâs a first time for everythingâ.
We were seriously disappointed with this decision experience. We left hungry, out $40 ($20 for hard over-cooked potstickers and another $20 for the Uber back and forth).
Lastly, they recommended reservations on their website; yeah, not needed. This recommendation (along with the high menu prices) are only to hype the experience and appear to be something more than what they are. We walked in at 7:25 (10 Min late for our reservation) there were plenty of tables as more than half the restaurant was empty.
edit/update just read another review that the food was salty and overpriced with a pic of the food in their table, in the pic was the same bread plate with butter, a strawberry blend butter, and an oil/balsamic vinegar and sourdough bread. This was from 3 years ago. When the waitress brought this plate out, it was passed off as something fresh and a new creation by the...
