We went here for breakfast and were the only customers when we walked in (That is always a good warning sign) The breakfast menu was limited and the price was listed for the items. A bit pricier for sure considering a pair of medhu vada with dal ( supposed to be sambar) and chutney costs $14. Not expecting it to be cheaper in the tourist town for sure and ofcourse if you crave for Indian breakfast then price can be overlooked. We ordered paratha, idli and vada along with Tea. Paratha did not come with Dahi and that was extra cost. Food taste was good and vada was nice and crispy. Idli was probably microwaved since it was piping hot (know this from experience) For a sitdown restuarant there was ZERO service. No water was served and when we asked for it we were recommended bottled water than tap water. We did get tap water after sometime when we said that tap water is fine :) When it came to payment, we did NOT get a check but had to go to the counter to pay. When I asked for the bill, the owner said yes the bill will be provided after payment and so we paid. There was a suggested tip option which I did not pay since there was no service in the first place but the total cost itself was on the higher side which made me think that there is some extra cost padded to the total. When I did review the bill(after payment), it had a 15% service charge. I may have missed that part that it is a default with the check and glad that I didn't pay any tip.
Cost was $55 for the following including 15% service charge (by default) 1 pair of Vada in the vada sambhar plate 3 small idlis in the idli plate 1 large paratha ( this was the quite filling ) 1 dahi 1 chai
Again what really bugged me was a lack of service but the 15% service charge. I would recommend it for taste but don't think I will go there again.
BTW we did explore one other American breakfast option (SPoT Niagara Falls) next to this restaurant and I would certainly recommend that for breakfast. Also would recommend Zaika for lunch/Dinner buffet. probably one of the best sitdown restaurants in the area for both taste as well as...
Read more3.5 stars. This is a typical north Indian restaurant in Niagara Falls. Their food is authentically desi as compared to what I've had in Rochester, NY. The ambiance is simple, nothing too fancy. Parking is either in the parking lots of the State Park or paid parking along the street. The people running and serving at the restaurant are also authentically desi. We didn't know that it was just a buffet restaurant when we came here for dinner. My parents didn't want to do the buffet so we decided to go elsewhere, but they accommodated us by giving us a limited ala carte menu (no appetizers or south Indian food). The only restaurants that do this are back home in India. Having said that, the service itself was almost non-existent. They seem to not want to work. Telling people to do the buffet allows them to relax and talk. Doing ala carte means taking an order and actual service. Well, we didn't get much of it any how. We were waiting for a good 10 mins before water was brought. We didn't get takeaway boxes for a while. My brother ended up going to the counter to pay because nobody bothered to bring us the check.
We ordered the mixed vegetable, saag paneer and kadhai chicken with the jeera fried rice (you order rice separately as the curries don't come with rice), butter roti, butter naan, and garlic naan. The portions were decent. The food itself was delicious with the exception of oil. Just like a typical Indian restaurant, there was way too much oil. The saag had less oil than the others, so that was our favorite. The garlic naan didn't have enough garlic on it, and the pieces were pretty small. We had some left over, so we took it home.
Having looked at the buffet option vs ala carte, I would go with the buffet next time because they had more options (paneer, mixed veg, chicken, lamb, naans, rice, dessert, etc). It costs $20 per person but going ala carte also ends up costing the same or more.
Overall, this was an ok experience. If I had to describe it in a sentence, if you are a desi coming to this restaurant, expect the service and food exactly as you...
Read moreIn reading the reviews I had to laugh. Seems people either really like it or they don't like it. As for me, I really like it. Bombay Palace has a lovely bright yellow storefront but the interior is stately and old world and clean. The ladies room could use a refresh on the lower half but that's the only negative I found. The service was fantastic and I have a couple things to say about service and about restaurants with buffets. First, most foreigners don't subscribe to fancy or European service styles and especially when a restaurant serves a buffet. I've never gone to a restaurant who serves a buffet and expected excellent service. You get one or the other but hardly ever both. If you're in a tourist area going to a buffet restaurant expecting excellent service you got on the wrong bus.
I was greeted twice, both times by lovely and pleasant women. In fact I had a really nice conversation with Leelah and she made me feel very at home. I ordered the chicken Tikka only because they had no palak paneer. I also ordered a spiced hot tea and a paratha. My meal was delicious. The buffet isn't served during the winter months, if you were wondering lol. The spices were right and the fresh cilantro on top along with the chunks of onions in the sauce just added the right finish. I'm happy to say I'll be a repeat customer.
I normally order through door dash but wanted to see this place in person. I was happy to find a very clean kitchen. I've been to every Indian restaurant in town and am not a fan of Zaika. Some others are okay but this place hits the mark every order. If you like real homemade food, try this place. The prices are reasonable and the...
