I wanted to love this property. The concept, Soul, Community, Planet sounded perfect. And some of the execution of those elements is great. It is a modern, Scandinavia meets Seattle/rustic look. I like the lobby, with the fireplace and plants. The common room has lots of potential, with a pool table, hammock chairs and games. The food sold in the 'convenience store' was largely natural and health conscious. I found the beds to be very comfortable. The problems were in the room. Perhaps the room we were in wasn't ready to be rented out? The main light switch did nothing, so we had to root around in the darkness when we checked in late at night until we found a light to turn on. The bathroom doors are rustic, sliding 'barn' doors. There are 2 panels, meant to meet and close. However, the 2 panels would not stay closed and slid towards the main room leaving the bathroom open. In order to try to close the doors when inside the bathroom, it became difficult. While there are handled on the outside of the door, there are no handles or places to grip on the inside. Also, as the style is sliding barn door, the doors do not lay flat against the wall and give complete privacy even when shut. When we went to shower, we discovered that the shower door would not stay closed, instead it slowly slid open, so the entire bathroom floor would be soaked. We told the front desk about the shower doors and the bathroom doors and they were finally fixed a day later. The shower has soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers mounted on the shower wall. I have seen this trend in other hotels and it is a more economical and earth friendly idea than travel size bottles. I do wish there was at least 1 shell in the shower, though, because I bring my own refillable containers with products I prefer and there was nowhere except the floor to put them. The real problem with the dispensers was on our last day, when I decided to use the soap dispenser. I pumped the soap 2 times and the entire 3 bottle dispenser came crashing down off the wall, just barely missing my toes! After I told the front desk, they did get it remounted by the end of the day. As for housekeeping, on our second day I asked at the desk how often housekeeping cleaned rooms. I was told ‘about every 3 days or so’, which is a little unspecific. I asked if we could get our rooms cleaned that day, since we would be out all day. The woman at the desk said sure, I’ll tell housekeeping, but they never serviced our room that day. They only serviced our room on our 3rd and last day. Finally, there are some room setup/ design elements that I think really don’t work. Besides the sliding barn doors that give little privacy in the bathroom, the most annoying part of the design has the clothes hangers placed in the bathroom, facing the sink area. As the bathroom isn’t huge, I found that I got my hair products on my clean clothes . Also, I had a wool dress that I didn’t hang since I didn’t want it getting steamy and/or wet. In the main room there is not really a place to put clothes. I don’t mind leaving my suitcase on the floor, but I do like to unpack clean clothes and put dirty clothes back in the suitcase. Here, the only place other than my suitcase to put clothes was a skinny shelf under the television, a shelf that was more of a bookshelf. Another problem that the management is definitely aware of is the noisiness. In the room literature they address this, and mention that some rooms come with white noise machines. Ours did not, and we didn’t bother to request one from the front desk. But the concrete of the lobby definitely creates a lot of noise and loud echo of voices. Lastly, the elevator wasn’t working. Not a big deal as there are just 2 floors, but on a vacation I prefer to use one at least to manage getting suitcases upstairs. And i am grateful that no one had any handicap or injuries, as last vacation we took I had a broken foot; if that had been the case here it would have...
Read moreQuick - If you are an adventurer, support sustainability and repurposed materials, want an excellent place to workout with your stay, and dont need Marriott/Hilton points, its awesome. If you are a Karen/Ken whose gonna nitpick all the flaws in a an old repurposed Knights Inn building, please, PLEASE, save us all the trouble of dealing with you and stay down the street at the LaQuinta.
Long V - I didnt know what to expect, i booked this place solidly on the pictures of the gym. And it has an AWESOME gym. You know how most hotel gyms are usually a couple machines tossed in an empty hotel room with a water cooler and a tv? This place has actual space for a gym. Weights, Pelaton bikes, plenty of walking space, even a yoga room. Its by far one of the best gyms ive ever been to in a hotel, better than alot of fancy places ive stayed. Id book on that alone.
The building is obviously an old conventional hotel thats been repurposed. You can feel the ghost of a semi truck driver or two roaming about, in a friendly way nothing scary. Outside from the street its pretty Knights Inn/Old Red Roof vibe until you get to the front desk/community area, which is really nice. Theyve added alot of bright colors, plants, lights, its really welcoming.
Inside, the rooms are a 180 from old hotel vibe. They are updated, cozy, comfortable. Nothing elaborate, but Id say more elevated. Furniture has those multiple port electric charging options, love that. They provide copius towels, extra love that (looking at you big hotel chains with your towel minimalism).
The community areas are really nicely done. If you have kids theres plenty of indoor games like a pool table, big connect four, chinese checkers. The coffee bar is nicely kept. They dont use “to go” cups, its all mugs, real silverware, etc that you can take to your room but otherwise take back to get washed.
I had the “mountain view” side which id pay for again. The pool was closed for the season so cant review that other than it looked cool.
The staff are lovely. 0 bad interactions, all really nice.
The only cons for me would be:
i have to walk to the coffee bar for coffee because theres no machines in the room (pure laziness on my part, and if you bring a travel mug/thermos you could easily fill up and have it back in your room). Hot water pot would be nice.
Its hard to get natural light in the rooms without also being completely open to anybody walking by. Its a construction conundrum since the room windows look out onto the walkways to them, so once the blinds are up anyone can look in when they walk by them. So remember to put the blinds down when you walk out of the shower!
Great place for anyone looking towards unique stays, relaxed atmospheres (nobodys clutching pearls here about how anyone looks), and supporting good earth/community...
Read moreNice staff, terrible stay. I feel catfished by this hotel, honestly.
I’m never one to give such low ratings especially on small businesses. I always try to be as kind and friendly as possible, but this was frankly the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.
What was supposed to be an amazing quick stop in Colorado Springs for my partner and I’s much anticipated, belated anniversary getaway to Colorado from KS — was quickly a stressful, negative and emotional first stop in our week long getaway. My partner and I traveled from 5 am to 4 pm to this location and I can honestly say our initial thoughts of how excited we were for this hotel and the kind staff were the only good parts of our stay, period. After traveling all day we checked into the place. The place seemed more ran down in the front compared to pictures but then I saw the beautiful lobby and dining area and thought maybe it was my standards being too high. Until we were told our room would be in the back side of the building and only realized how much worse it got. There was a view of an overflowing dumpster upon entering our area and other guest’s trash and laundry hanging all over the floors of the building. It just gets worse with cleanliness. Our room had dust heavily accumulated all over the trendy decor, that only half of the room had compared to photos. Our bathroom mirror looked like it had not been wiped down in months. Our bathtub and shower was full of nasty, unknown debris and hair. Stains and grease covered the light switch. The bed sheets felt terribly dirty and unclean. Our walls were paper thin and there was a crack in the door, allowing noise and weather to drift into our privacy.
We were so uncomfortable we had to leave. Due to basic cleaning standards and traveling in a pandemic, it just wasn’t going to work. The staff was very understanding, empathetic and helpful. As embarrassing as it was to address these issues for the both of us. We traveled all day just to be stranded and traveled all night all the way to Denver to find a place for the night before our next few stops in the state. We were told we would be refunded within a few days, but it’s been a week and I’ve gotten more emails on giving a review than anything about our refund — which was over $200 for one night of this. So here is my review.
My partner and I wanted to enjoy this place so badly and really felt like we could enjoy this environment and the values behind this place. I don’t mean to be harsh because I’m sure the pandemic has taken a hit to all lodging places and their standards of quality, but I truly feel ripped off. If you have read this far in my review, I only encourage you to read other reviews of guests’ previous stays here until their quality of service improves and a guest’s...
