Dirty tables everywhere. And my large cappuccino was half full. The original glass was presented with no foam whatsoever and liquid only half way. The manager even asked if I had drank it when I initislly approached asking if that was a large. The remake is shown in the photo. In this case, if I was served a beer with half the glass as foam, I'd be angry. I'm not any happier here. Good waste of $5.00. Breakfast bagel was nothing great. At least the Tasmanian was good. The restaurant initially respibded to my review responded and claimed they were shortstaffed, but I know for a fact that at least one employee was called off late last night. That's not short employees. That's careless. You know you are busy! I almost came the day before and the line was just as long! So good for you! But then don't shortstaff yourselves and then use it as an excuse! And, yes, the cappuccino was remade and I said it was perfect, but upon looking closer, the liquid only filled the cup slightly over halfway. Half a cup of foam is never acceptable. An inch at most is the standard. I've asked around since. It was my first experience with an iced cappuccino there and "foam or no foam" was not an option. I've been in the food industry. There is no point to keep complaining, especially with the way I was looked at when it was brought to someone's attention. The first drink arrived looking not at all like the second- No foam, just half a glass of liquid. It actually looked half drank by someone else. My table partner can verify every single thing. And, why would you take it away? It's not like you can serve it to someone else. The second glass seemed to be an improvement.... BUT it was still NOT 20oz! Just call it what it is- 12 or 14oz maybe. (See the foam versus liquid in the picture. And, again, that was the second attempt, which was 10 times better than the first cup.) It was an expensive meal and sadly didn't end up being worth it. I appreciate the effort, but dirty tables and a meal served with a sad amount of beverage do not equal a good experience. Just do better and don't cancel employees shifts and use that as an excuse. Update: Olde World terminated an employee after my review because of our presumed affiliation. They will tell you it was for an unrelated reason, but there is enough proof that could be provided to make the truth visible if asked to prove this. The restaurant's original response to my review was removed at least once and eventually reposted to what it is now. I have no issue with the company. I do, however, now have an issue with the manager, Jen, for her conduct. It was just a drink problem initially, but her reaction to my questioning AT the occurence and then her excuse of a long line and being short employees (like no one had been called off) led to my very negative review. I hope that the owner is aware of how the staffing is being handled. It...
Read moreBest bagels in Colorado. If I was just rating the bagels five stars wouldn't be enough. The problem is their new ordering system. Every other bagel place in the world (and I'm from NJ originally, I know bagel shops) you go in, you wait in line, place your order with the next available person behind the counter, they make it for you and either they ring you up or a dedicated cashier does. That's how it used to work here too. Now, with the new system you wait in line to order, the oder goes to a computer screen and then you wait for the next available person to make your order. Sounds reasonable on paper but in practice this doesn't work, especially if you have a super simple order like a dozen bagels to go. I was there on a Saturday morning and waited 20 minutes to place my order, a dozen bagels to go. Not toasted, not sliced, just a dozen bagels in a bag. I then waited another 20 minutes and still didn't have my bagels. The person who took my order could have easily taken two minutes tops and put 12 bagels in a bag but all orders just stay in the queue. I finally went back to the register and asked if anything could be done since I had a simple order and had now been waiting 40 minutes. I was told no, there were still three orders ahead of mine. I told them to forget it, I didn't have all day and I left.
I went back during the week when it was much less busy and asked about the system. I was told there was nothing they could do. I tried explaining that it made no sense to wait over 20 minutes to have someone just put bagels in a bag especially after waiting so long to order. I was told I could place an order with catering 24 hours in advance and it would be ready for me. No one orders a few bagels to go in advance like that.
I am posting this with the best intentions, not trying to be a jerk, just offering constructive criticism. And one more thing, please don't put bagels in a plastic bag, just the paper. Warm bagels in plastic get steamy and it ruins the crust.
Update - 7/17
Nothing has changed. I stopped in this morning, late enough that it wasn't too busy, however there's still a long wait. I ordered a simple untoasted bagel with cream cheese. You still need to wait in line to order and then wait for your order to be made. They have plenty of staff behind the counter so if they went back to the normal bagel shop system it seems things would work great. 15 minutes on a Monday when it's not busy just seems like way too long for one simple bagel. Still the best bagel in...
Read moreYes! Inflation and cost of living increases are certainly real. I was recently in California. A gallon of gas averaged $6.00. Tacqueria and food truck burritos are now about $12.00. The price of eggs and milk and other staples have been well documented. Especially over the last two years. We get it. Everything is expensive. Even still, it can be shocking.
I came through the beautiful city of Colorado Springs for work and happened by Olde World Bagel. I pass through many cities throughout the country for work. And I must say, Colorado Springs is a beautiful town. Clean air. Stunning scenery and views. Very nice people. I did not spend much time in the town, but that was my initial impression.
The price for my bagel with lox was equally as stunning as the surrounding white capped mountain vistas. Though, to be fair, I did not pay attention to the price when I ordered. I knew what I wanted before seeing it on the menu. It has been ages since I had lox. Figured I would give it a try. Looked liked a great bakery to try it. I am not too fussy about what a place looks like. Often, looks can be deceiving.
Olde World Bagel is clean and bright inside. Feels like a mix of cafe, bakery, and breakfast or brunch spot. Definitely a modern coffee shop. Several employees were busy behind the counter. I did not wait at all to place my order and my bagel came within minutes, as I had arrived well after noon and the usual lunchtime rush.
The everything bagel with lox was both fresh and delicious. Though was quite shocked by the price. I was not in New York, or Boston, or D.C. Or Los Angeles or San Francisco. There are cities that are well known for their high prices. It sort of goes along with the experience to some extent. Operating costs are high.
I understand that fresh and kosher quality salmon can be very expensive. I used to live in Brooklyn. $15 for a bagel is expensive. Anywhere. Again, the bagel was delicious. No problem or qualms with taste. Next time I pass by I will definitely pass on the lox or any other pricey concoction and try a standard bagel with cream cheese or another kind of cheese or spread that is more reasonably priced. And allows me to afford...
