Gave 3 stars as I don't want to discourage people from staying here, but want to leave a realistic review. We visited for 4 nights over Thanksgiving weekend. ||Positives first: Kiyana, the staff person who was there when we checked out was friendly, thorough, responsive, and pro-active. I called a week ahead of time to ask a question about the room layout, and it was probably her I spoke with. Just lovely. The hotel is very much ready for a refresh, but surfaces were clean, I was able to use the oven in our two room suite to make Thanksgiving appetizers. Coffee and tea available at all times in the lobby. The location is fantastic and our extended family was able to gather in the lobby very comfortably. The breakfast (when available) was less noteworthy than a Hampton Inn (no waffles) but I assume that this is because there are kitchenettes in the rooms and the clientele's expectations are different. It got the job done. Would have preferred less sugary options for yogurt, oatmeal. ||Negatives: I was greeted on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving by a gentleman who asked if I had stayed there before (I had), and he responded "so I don't have to give you updates." Sounded friendly enough, but what he didn't tell me was that there was no water in the pool. He did tell me that breakfast on Thanksgiving would be grab and go. He did not seem to appreciate why I might have wanted to know ahead of time that the hotel I booked specifically for the breakfast and the pool would not have those amenities. He told me breakfast hours when I asked, but did not offer that information. He did not offer information about the free pass to Lifetime Fitness until we asked about that. And he never told us we had access to the pool at the Hampton Inn next door (Kiyona mentioned it). We followed up with him a few times, and that information never came. He seemed very unconcerned about my concerns, but he did fix a broken remote control and provided us with the sheets and towels we needed when there were not enough in the room for the 4 of us.||I am sympathetic to the staffing issue on a holiday, a boxed breakfast with a frozen sausage biscuit and a frozen bagel was not really acceptable. It would not have been hard to put out hard boiled eggs and yogurts and milk, single serve cereals etc. I plan to call the manager and escalate to corporate about this, as well as the lack of notice about the unavailability of the pool. As a vegetarian with no way to toast a bagel on the go, I had to buy breakfast elsewhere. Knowing this ahead of time, I might have prepared and brought food with me.||The room was tidy enough, but was never serviced during our 4 night stay, and did not have enough bedding or towels in it for the number of guests registered to stay there. I was able to walk to the front desk to get these items though. The sofa bed was COMPLETELY unacceptable, and we were thankfully able to borrow an air mattress from a neighboring relative. The mattress was all coils and had stains on them, and, the exterior of the sofa was stained and icky enough that nobody chose to sit on it, let alone sleep on it. The heat in the main room blew mostly cold air, and due to the age of the other units, they were just louder than what one might find in a more recently renovated hotel. When we asked if there might be a room that was more recently upgraded, he told us the hotel was full, and also, all the rooms were the same. The hotel did not feel full, so perhaps they aren't renting out all of the rooms at this time as they anticipate a renovation in the coming year (we were told this was happening).||Would I stay here again despite all of this? Maybe, as we like the location, it was clean (besides the sofa bed...will bring our own air mattress next time), and we like to be able to have our own space - and the price is right for all of that. Perhaps it will be renovated...
Read moreI recently stayed at TownePlace Suites Commerce during a work assignment between August 2018 and October 2018. I moved at the beginning of October to a pet room and soon after noticed bites on my feet, arms, and neck consistent with bed bug bites. The company I work for contacted the hotel and the general manager Chris Tanner was quick to discredit my concerns. He then, without my approval, entered my room while I was at work to perform his own “inspection” of my room with a member of his staff and changed the bedding. He informed my employer that he did not find any evidence of bed bugs and in order to accommodate my request of a new room I would have to pay another pet fee. He eventually agreed to move my room without charging me another pet fee and informed my employer that Orkin would be out to perform an official inspection of the room. I was asked to leave all of my belongings in the room and I complied. However, when I arrived to the room that afternoon prior to the inspection and all of the bedding and shower curtain had been removed from the room. Once the inspection was complete I received a call from Mr. Tanner stating that there was no evidence of bed bugs found by Orkin during the inspection. I expressed my concerns regarding the removal of the bedding prior to the inspection and he asked that I “not jump to conclusions and blame the hotel”. I expressed my concerns with the cleanliness of my new room and Mr. Tanner stated he had been in the room earlier that day while it was being cleaned and he assured me the bedding was fresh. I inspected the bed of my new room and found several stains on the mattress and small dark red spots that resembled blood on the mattress pad. I called the front desk and was brought a fresh mattress pad and comforter. However, because I did not feel the Orkin inspection was handled properly and after finding stains consistent with bed bugs in a second room I did not feel comfortable remaining a guest in the hotel. I ended up having to stay in the second room two nights before my employer found placement for me in a different hotel. During the two nights in the second room I did not recieve any further bites. I have contacted Marriott rewards several times expressing my concerns and they continue to refer me back to Mr. Tanner who has been less than accommodating. I do not plan on ever staying in another TownePlace Suites, there is an immense lack of leadership and...
Read moreThis is the best hotel stay we have ever had! I have stayed in every kind of hotel imaginable, including various Marriott hotels. When we travel, we tend to prefer the comforts of home over in-room spa services and glitz.
We travel with our dog anywhere we can and this is a very pet-friendly hotel. Not only were the staff kind and welcoming, but we enjoyed engaging in conversation with the other guests at breakfast or as our dog greeted them while we were hanging out in the lobby. Speaking of breakfast, there were so many options and it made it easy for us traveling to be able to start our day without stressing about food. The pool was warm and clean and the fitness center, though small, had everything we needed to maintain our routine. The hotel was conveniently located between our families and on Route 5 for easy travel with tons of nearby entertainment choices.
One of the coolest things about this hotel was the gift wrapping station. I have never seen anything like that in a hotel. Considering the time of year, it was very appropriate. Though we did not use it, it was nice to know it was available. The room was very clean and everything fully functional. We never had to call for maintenance, but I am sure if we did, the staff would have responded quickly. The walls are thick, but my only one criticism is that either the person above us walked really hard or the floors are a little thin. It was only a problem on a couple occasions (never at night, thankfully), but all the other positives made up for the very minor inconvenience.
The room was CLEAN and comfortable. It was easy to control the temperature for each room. There was very little, if any noise between the walls and in the hallway. The size and type of furniture and furniture placement was just right (not overdone and not overfilled). The plates, pots, utensils were clean and in good condition. The appliances were in excellent condition. the Elfa closet system was extremely useful for putting our clothes up. It is a good use of space. And there was plenty of storage even if we did not need it. The doorbell with the integrated privacy and "make bed" signage was ingenious.
This is still a fairly new hotel and I hope that Marriott will continue to keep it well maintained. My husband and I are from Michigan and we travel there frequently. We have decided to ALWAYS stay at this hotel. We (including the dog)...
