One resident of Cripple Creek told me that Cripple Creek was a boom-and-bust town. It appears that this has been true since the time of the first discovery of gold in 1890. There is still active gold mining locally but the economy of the town hinges on gambling and tourism. At the time of our visit, the tourist/gambling section of town was a little grimy or unsophisticated, the clientele appeared to be middle-income.||||McGills hotel is in the center of the tourist/gambling district in town. Someone is building a monster gambling hotel across the street. Behind it is a multilevel parking garage. There is a “high rollers” section of the casino in the hotel. There must also be high roller hotel rooms. The pictures of the hotel rooms on their website must have been for high rollers for our room looked nothing like the pictures on the website. There was also a cautionary warning in the bathroom concerning the proper disposal of needles.||||There are three “restaurants” in the hotel. We went to the Pint & Platter for dinner. To describe the fare as Pub Food would be an overstatement. We did not want to return for breakfast, so we asked where we could get breakfast and we were told that Dynamite Pete’s was the best in town. This was also a stretch. In addition to the so-so breakfast, I found it disconcerting that some guy off the street was sleeping on one of the dining tables; not the atmosphere that I like to cultivate.||||I hope the boom-times come back. It is a sweet little town with a...
Read moreVisited Cripple Creek last week (Aug. 31st-Sept 1st), played all the casinos. Everyone was nice and friendly, until the last morning. The morning of the 1st we went in to play some slots before leaving and there was a woman sitting at a machine with a "hold the machine" paper on it, not playing for 20 minutes. Then she put $10 in and sit another 20 minutes not playing the machine and then got up and left yet again with the sign on machine. She was gone for a good 20 minutes. I asked the security guard that was present if we could remove the sign and play the machine. The security guard lied to my face and said the woman had been gone for 4 minutes. She was very rude and when I turned to walk away she popped off to my back that I would be arrested if I touched the machine or removed the card. Since we were leaving I just let it go. But the more I think about it, it really irritates me that the guard was so rude. I am not against holding a machine to go get money, visit restroom or eat, but I am against holding a machine when you are clearly not playing it and you know people are wanting to play because the machine is at its jackpot limit. This lady was sitting and playing on her phone the entire time instead of kindly getting up and letting someone else play. This is where issues can come in if you dont get a better handle of people holding machines, as well as teach your security guards to treat the patrons with a little...
Read moreHorrible...horrible staff...no joke! Their staff are completely in the dark about the Casino's promotions and are extremely rude about it. I had a general question concerning the point system with the Triple Crown casinos (The Brass Ass, The Midnight Rose and JP McGills) and why my amounts were showing up different from place-to-place. I talked to several people at JP McGills with no answer and no help. Finally, after 30 mins of waiting I talked to the general manager which was a foreign lady that felt it was her duty to belittle me. She never answered my original question other than "it's normal to lose points from one casino to another," regardless that all three casinos run under the same Players Club!? How could this error be normal!? It was apparent she didn't care enough to find out the real answer and wasn't going to do anything about it either. If her lazy-I-don't-care attitude wasn't enough, she took it upon herself to turn the subject around on me and insult me instead. Stating I wasn't a real gambler because I didn't know the answer myself and that I wasn't gambling enough for her to care. WTF!? Horrible...horrible...staff. I will NEVER return to this casino they are completely unprofessional.
If you want a great gambling experience with friendly, knowledgeable staff then go to the Century Casino or Bronco...
