If you're interested in old mining history, this is the place to be. As others have said, the host there makes you feel very welcome. Well behaved dogs are allowed in. We spent quite a bit of time touring the main building and enjoyed all the artifacts there. They were holding a treasure hunt that my wife enjoyed searching the museum for the facts.
Behind the museum is a great place to get photos of the little steam train leaving. Check their schedule to see when it's going to go.
