The location is a tad bit trick to find. It shares a parking lot with a La Quinta and Motel 6; tucked neatly under an Embassy Suites. You could easily walk to the gas station at the end of the parking lot (only during the day) In just a couple of minutes. But to drive to that same gas station, it would take 10 minutes. During rush hour traffic is bad. As for the aforementioned gas station, the element that hangs out over there appeared very shady and my girlfriend said she was followed out the store to the parking area. It seemed as though the parking area was a DMZ. Not once did I see or hear of any incidents during my 1 week stay. There is a security officer on sight at night that actively patrols the facilities and checks all exterior door.
The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. My only issue was trying to scan documents. The young women at the front desk said she didn't think she could do it even though a scanner was right next to her. But I didn't have time to question her, I just thought it was a little strange.
As for our room. It was a king suite for my girlfriend, son and I. We were staying for an extended period of time while we waited to move into our house. The adults wanted our own private space so we could "sleep" without waking the kiddo. When we got into the suite we noticed 2 sets of double doors separating the sitting area from the bedroom. One set of double doors is screwed closed, and the other set wasn't able to lock because the doors were not level. Also those same doors are paper thin and have a very see through curtain that provide little to now privacy. We had to cover the doors with towels and blankets just enough to be able to "talk" without disturbing the child at nights. The A/C was there but that poor machine just could keep up with our Texas weather. In between the 2 sets of doors is an exhaust fan that sucks out the cool air from the bedroom, into the seating area. IT DOES NOT WORK, but it is just load enough keep you up if your a light sleeper. So, best bet is to just keep the set of double doors open. Just understand if privacy is what your looking for I would think you would look elsewhere.
Our refrigerator in the room worked well at the beginning but by day 5 it seemed to be showing it old it really was. If you put too much food inside of it, it would stop cooling. We lost a 1/2 gallon o milk and a box of Hot Pockets. Before we realized it wasn't working.
The bed was very comfortable an all linens and towels were clean. The cleaning staff is very proficient in there duties. Just be aware that the cleaning staff does not come daily. Every 3 days the come by to refile toiletries, replace linens and clean up in the room. I can deal without cleaning staff for a couple of days, but if they're going to schedule cleanings like that, maybe the staff should consider adding additional towels and washcloths. The 3 that were there didn't last long for a family of 3.
The breakfast was good. Sausage (bacon was there 1 day out of 7), eggs, "Make-your-own" waffles and cinnamon rolls station, cereals, breads/muffins/Danishes and assorted juices. Nothing too amazing but it hard to find place that serves anything more than "continental".
There is a pool, hot tub and workout area on site. The pool is indoors and a tad bit small. The Hot tub only had 3 working jets but was very warm. And the workout area is a room with a treadmill, an optical machine and a cable machine.
Bottom line, If I had the chance to, I would say at this location again. It isn't the cheapest out there but, if your on a budget, you would enjoy saying at this location. You do get what you pay for and that's...
Read moreAs a rare salamander breeder, I travel across North America frequently in an effort to improve my reptilian bloodline. Just recently I came here, to Dallas, TX, where I planned to meet with a woman named Gretchen from Facebook. She claimed to have the elusive Jackson's Climbing Salamander, and offered to sell it to me. Bewildered and delighted did not capture just 1% of my emotion! I was over the moon with joy! After a long flight all the way from the great country of Canada, Ontario specifically, I was exhausted when I finally made it to this wonderous hostel. I conversed with the woman at the front desk, whose name I believe was Karen, possibly Katherine. Anyways, she greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome, checked me in quickly, then gave me the keys to my abode. Karen radiates positive energy, and really lightened my mood, as I was a bit down from the flight and missing my nieces wedding the previous weekend. I made my way up to the second floor, found my room, and promptly fell asleep. The room was average, but the comfortable bed made up for that. The next morning, I woke up with excitement. I could not wait to login to Facebook and obtain my new salamander friend. I walked downstairs with my laptop, where a different woman at the front desk said hello, but I cannot remember her name. The staff at this hotel are very nice! They talked to me more than my wife has in the past week. Anyways, I login to Facebook in the lobby, hoping to get in touch with Gretchen. I messaged her, and she shortly responded with a meeting location. I agreed, then called a taxi. I never ride uber, because my father started a taxi business in his hometown of Eugene. It was devestating seeing him driven out of business by those damn newfangled ride share apps. Please don't use Uber or Lysp. I got in the yellow cab with pride, and we drove to my destination, the local Walmart. Finally she showed up with her dog in a cute salamander costume. She also brought the supposedly rare salamander. As I leaned closer to look at my new amphibious amigo, her dog became scared and bit me right on the ankle! What a pesky little thing! I looked again, this time with my feet far away from the mouth of the mutt. Upon further inspection, I realized that the salamander was a really just a common fire breed. I was initially a bit angry, but sympathized with her, as she had been tricked into buying the animal for thousands of dollars. It was not what she believed it was, sadly. We talked for a bit, then I decided to return to my hotel, in a dull mood. I contemplated life, and my salamander situation on the way back. I was devastated that I would have to return to Ontario salamanderless. When I entered the hotel again, it was around 6pm. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Karen. She told me all about the area, and things that I could do in town. She recommended a great restaurant, but I cannot remember its name. Karen made me feel very welcome in the states. I figured that I could just make the best out of the night before returning the next day. I decided to go to the restaurant. Food in Texas is really quite good! I returned an hour later, still with no salamander, but in a better mood than before. Karen greeted me again, and asked how my stay was, and how I was doing. What a polite person! I felt very good inside and thankful after being treated so nicely. Now I finally understand Southern Hospitality! I went up to bed, and fell asleep. I left for the airport the next morning, still with no Salamander, but with a new...
Read moreThe 1st room smelled of mold/mildew in the entryway. 2 tvs 1 remote, but the remote only turned the TV on and wouldn't change the channels or anything else and the back of the remote was missing. They changed my room.
The second room didn't have the weird smell and even though it was 2 tvs with 1 remote, at least this remote worked. The king sized bed is very comfortable and the all-white bedding makes it easier to spot if there's any issues.
The breakfast is a very nice spread of cereal, muffins toast, Belgian waffles, yogurt, syrup, eggs, and sausage. Someone spilled syrup on the floor and I told the front desk, as that's going to be tracked all over the hotel, but they didn't see it as a priority to clean up.
I arrived on a Friday and they had some cold lemon water and cups in the lobby. Saturday, that same water and those same lemons were still sitting there. The front desk confirmed that it was the same water because she said they won't change it out until Sunday. Room temperature water with 2-day old lemons floating in it, as a refreshment offering.... Are you serious? After they refilled it, it went pretty quickly due to the heat and instead of making a new batch, they just kept adding ice on top of 2 day old lemons.
Spiders. 2 large ones in the bathroom and I kept the bathroom light on the entire stay. And a spiderweb in the ceiling corner of the bedroom.
A brand new bottle of juice fell while I was showering and got onto the carpet. Luckily, housekeeping was in the area. She came and took care of it immediately. I also let her know about the spiders in the bathroom and she took care of them, too. I probably would have let the spiders stay, until I saw them moving around a little.
No towel racks in the bathroom. No iron/ironing board.
The Wi-Fi is relatively solid, but during peak hours, it slows significantly.
Everything is outdated. The carpeting in the rooms and the hallways, the couches/chairs in the living area of the suites don't seem like a safe bet to sit on. No telling how often they clean them and they are extremely worn.
The bed is relatively comfortable and the a/c in the room didn't disappoint; however, if you plan to hang out in the living area of the suite, the air doesn't flow well due to the partition.
There are other hotels surrounding this one, so it can get busy and the parking lot can get pretty full, but the area is relatively...
