Magnolia House by Holiday Isle — Hotel in Destin

Magnolia House 111 August 31 - September 4, 2017 Roaches in kitchen. Roach ran across kitchen counter while cooking breakfast. Saw roach on side of subzero refrigerator. Saw and stepped on multiple roaches on kitchen floor at night. Groceries went to waste because it was uncomfortable to use kitchen. In speaking with management, "they are not roaches, they are palmetto bugs." Maintenance came to unit and sprayed but it did not help Shower curtain fell during shower because it was not put up correctly Subzero refrigerator extremely loud, especially when you open freezer drawer Steps leading to front door and from garage had standing puddles of water after rain - no caution signs Track for sliding door and behind entertainment center located in front bedroom were filled with dead insects, webs, and dust Laminated note taped on backsplash just above stove had food on it where it had not been wiped off Chair cushions at kitchen table had really large crumbs on them One side of shutters in living room do not stay open unless propped Sliding door from above unit was opened and shut repeatedly and and it was extremely loud and disruptive While kitchen has stellar design/set up (top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, granite countertops/backsplash) roaches or "palmetto bugs" totally takes away from it all Owner has invested in unit and it is a really nice unit, but roaches or "palmetto bugs" cannot be overlooked - made for a very uncomfortable vacation and makes me itch just thinking about it Management was understanding - offered another unit and removed cleaning fee Double balcony was nice Stellar decor in...

Check-in was a breeze and they even texted me directions to the lockbox where my keys would be since we arrived late at night. That was about the only pleasant thing. -No ceiling fan in the bedroom. -Carpet in the bedroom and living room had not been cleaned, let alone vacuumed. -The lint trap in the dryer is a hazard, as the screen is jagged and entirely broken. -The air vents are filthy. -The tv in the bedroom does not work. -The mattress is AWFUL and should be used as kindle for a beach bonfire. So horrible, we've had to make a pallet on the floor in the living room (after we used a half broken vacuum several times to clean up the carpet). -The beach is okay, but not at all what I expected. The beach is "dirty"...broken shells, washed up kelp and seaweed and too many sand spurs to count. Yes, I stepped in some. -And to make it even more enjoyable, a fire sprinkler test was conducted while we were here. Security came around with the fire sprinkler company, rang our doorbell, waited no more than 10 seconds, rang the doorbell again and proceeded to enter my room!!!! Called the front desk to raise questions and I was told that there are noticed at the elevators. The notices said there would be tests conducted; there was nothing about 3 dudes entering rooms at their will.

I will never stay here again and I will not recommend this place to anyone. Huge disappointment, especially for my boyfriend who had never been to...

Updated comment - No front service desk, the toilet was not in working order in one of the rooms, the shower (in the same bathroom almost flooded. Had to cut shower time short until I plunged it, kitchen sink would not put out nothing more than lukewarm water and we were told everyone had to be out of the pool by 10 but there were several people that came back once security was gone and they were loud and obnoxious (frat boys, if that tells you anything). I emailed RealJoy Vacation Properties about the issues and concerns (2 days prior to leaving) and we got a fairly quick response. I am never one to complain or give a long list of wrongs. Always trying to see the good in everything but the owner really needs to check their property thoroughly. I am very understanding! I am hoping the issues get fixed. I would love nothing more that to go back because of the location, pool/jacuzzi, the spaciousness of the room and full kitchen. It truly felt like home. Just the minor things add up over time. Enough ranting!
