My husband and I recently vacationed in Destin with our 17 year old son and two of his teenage buddies. I knew we wanted to spend a day at Crab Island but we had never been before, so I did not know who to book a charter thru. Also, keeping three teenagers entertained for 4 hours is not always easy to do. I stumbled upon The Original Redneck Pontoon on Tripadvisor, and I am so glad that I did! This experience was absolutely the highlight of our trip. The owners, Randy and Dena, are the nicest people and are well equipped to make your day awesome. It was very windy the day of our trip, and being a boater myself, I know that can make for a difficult day on the water. However, Randy handled it like pro, driving, docking, and anchoring us in the middle of the Crab Island action with absolute ease. Once there, he immediately jumped into action setting up the floats, paddle board, and games for us without any prompting. The boys had so much fun playing basketball, axe throwing (yes, axe throwing!), tipsy toss, and paddle boarding. When they needed a break from the water, they enjoyed lunch on the top deck swing and thought up a plan. The boat has a putting green and they used various materials to turn the boat deck into an obstacle course for their putt-putt game. Randy took it all in stride and even took pictures and videos for me so I could stay in the water relaxing. Since I booked thru a third party site, he didn’t have easy access to my contact information and I forgot to give him my number when we departed. A few days later, he tracked me down online to send me the pictures and videos he took of the boys. That type of amazing customer service is just unheard of these days! I was blown away by his kindness and follow up. We will definitely be using this company again for our future Destin trips, and without hesitation I recommend...
Read moreEdit to respond to the business: I’m surprised by the personal attacks in your response to my review. This was my experience with this tour. It was not a pleasant experience for either of us. ** I have reached out to this provider privately to arrange a new tour that she offered below or a refund. I was unsuccessful at receiving a response back from her. So, there was no makeup tour and no refund. I’d definitely steer clear of booking this as the customer service has been even worse than the tour.
I would ask a lot of questions prior to booking. I did not enjoy this experience. It was very disappointing. There should only be four people on this boat max for a sunset cruise. I took my 15 year old daughter, we were paired with two couples. We got on the boat first but she made us sit in the back. We wanted to sit in the front that’s why we got there early. During the sunset we couldn’t see anything but heads. See the attached pictures. This is why I say no one should be in the back of the boat you just cannot see. Also, all the pics I took in the back have poles in the pictures from the canopy. Overall a very disappointing experience. If I could redo this I would have booked with the tiki boats. My daughter felt awkward and didn’t enjoy any of this either. The pictures you’ve posted were literally all we could see of the sunset. ** Sorry to the people...
Read moreGreat experience. I researched 25 different rentals and decided on Randy based on location of departure, customized experience, captain included in price, and the price included EVERYTHING. Beware when booking a rental-not all include fuel, insurance, water “toys” and other hidden fees. Parking available at the dock and loading boat was quick. We were asked what we would like to do before we left the dock “this is your day” and your experience “let us know what you would like to do.” Saw dolphins on the way to crab island. Had lily pad, paddle board, inner tubes and other water toys available. The boat was large enough to accommodate 5 passengers and move around not including Dena and Randy. The thing that will bring us back to Randy’s boat rental is the attentiveness given to my family. They would refill our drinks, pour water and give us our personal things off the boat while we were in the water. Dena would get onto the water and check on us to see if we needed anything. She also waded into the channel to wave down the ice cream vendor so we could buy ice cream. I also appreciated they were comfortable to be around, professional, enjoyed their day on the water and helped other boats maneuver around-so generally...
