My wife and I went to Tennessee to experience the Smoky Mountains and continue our national park tours. Upon Our stay in our hotel at River Edge Inn we thought it's going to be a nice cozy place. The View was decent nestled in the mountains. But we were not pleased with the service because, what kind of inn does not have room service. We stayed there 5 days upon our first day we decide to check out the town of Gatlinburg call an Uber to take us to the Smoky Mountains at Sugarland visiting center. Spend the whole morning most of the afternoon come back around 4:00 on time to take a shower and get ready for dinner thinking the bed will be made the room will be clean etcetera instead we walk into bed unmade no clean sheets bathroom not cleaned garbage can not emptied basically the polar opposite of what you would see at a hotel Lodge inn. So I went to the desk and a young gentleman working the night shift until 11:00 p.m. I asked him bro what's up we left the room around 9:30 10:00 came back by 4:00 4:30 the beds not made trash still sitting there what happened to room service????? He responds oh we don't have room service until somebody checks out I respond so basically you're telling me the guest has to clean their own room clean their own showers clean their own trash clean their own toilet make their own bed. He responds yes I look at him of a smirk face and say you're kidding? He says no. I continue on and I give him an example okay so basically it's like if you come to my job and you're asking me I'm looking for a certain item and I tell you yeah we have that item but it's inside the truck inside a box and if you want it you got to unload the whole entire truck find it inside 2000 pieces of boxes open it up price it take it to the register you got to ring it up yourself and then you can't take it. Basically we're doing your job then I asked them are you guys hiring because if you're getting paid for just sitting there playing on the computer I'd like to have that job. Hidden response what we do is if you need clean sheets clean towels will give them to you. So I said okay if you're going to give me clean sheets and clean towels then come over here and make my bed and so on I continued and I say but you're not going to do that right he responds that's right. So I continued and I respond back to him all right then we're going to spend 5 days and 8:30 bed dirty trash can dirty shower and you're going to get a bad report when we come back home. Eventually the only thing we did is empty out the trash because it was getting full and it was a little tiny can but we didn't do the bed we didn't clean the shower we didn't clean the toilet because it's not our damn job. Be warned for those of you who are going to go to River Edge Inn if you like that kind of place to stay make sure you bring your own toilet bowl cleaner vacuum mop etc etc because you're going to end up doing the same stuff you do at home but away from home that's how it felt that it got like that that at some point my wife and I said hey let's go back to the apartment because that's exactly how I felt.
Plus the breakfast let's just say you will find a more Gourmet in your outside trash can all it is is cereal yogurt and orange juice big whoop
I will close with this I will never ever ever ever ever for as long as I live and breathe air go...
Read moreI've ALWAYS loved this hotel. My parents honeymoon was here back from the 70's so I took my parents, my family, and my brothers family for 2 nights. The hotel lobby smelled like smoke. The receptionist had her sick stepchild sleeping in the lobby chair. The guy never came to turn on the pilot light after asking 3 times, so I went to the lobby. The receptionist had joined her step daughter and was knocked out in the other lobby chair, head back and mouth WIDE open. I had to speak loudly to wake her up. Our TV was 19 inches and 15 years old. The keys on the Brady Bunch phone were stuck. The lock on the door was broken; we had to booby trap the room with a chair to keep my 2 year old from leaving. My mom just had surgery and my entire family is sensitive to smoke. We requested non-smoking rooms. On Sat night, my parents room was unbreathable - REEKING of smoke. I went to the lobby to find the same receptionist. She told me the hotel was sold out and the people who were in the next room were probably smoking in the room and the smoke will come around the adjoining door. She suggested i put towels by the base of the door and handed me 2 towels. I said, we are in non-smoking rooms, aren't we? Why do we have to breath the neighbor's smoke? She said the entire 1st floor is non-smoking. 2nd and 3rd floors are smoking. She insisted matter-of-factly that she can't kick them out, if they smoke in the room she just charges them the smoking fee. All she do was call and ask that they smoke outside. I said, really, my mom just had surgery and the smoke is STRONG, like making your nose burn strong. You can't ensure that we don't smell smoke in a non-smoking room? She said irritated that I hadn't listened teh first time she explained..she couldn't kick them out. If they smoke, she charges the non-smoking fee. Use the towels. River Edge has the choice of inconveniencing a group of smokers who took a non-smoking room and refuse to smoke outside and a group of non-smokers who can't BREATHE in the room who RESERVED a non-smoking room, they choose to inconvenience the non-smokers trying to sleep with wet-wash clothes on their faces in order to breath.... If the smoke didn't affect anyone else, CHARGE THE FEE THE NEXT DAY. BUT MY MOTHER AND FATHER HAD TO ENDURE BECAUSE THEY DIDN"T HAVE MONEY TO GO TO ANOTHER HOTEL. My father, who honeymooned in this hotel and has always loved it, has had his last visit. ...
Read moreMy 73 year old mother booked a room at this hotel through my Booking.com account; I travel alot and get some discounts through this site. My parents live off of social security and they don't travel a lot besides a yearly trip to Gatlinburg, TN or Florida every few years. They live in Waverly, TN. My mom booked a non-refundable room, which she didn't pay much attention to because she doesn't visit the site ever, and doesn't book a lot of hotel rooms. Mainly, she was excited to get out of the house for 4 or 5 days! My dad, who is 83, fainted and fell a day or two before the trip. He is ok now, but was nervous to travel because he didn't know what was going on with him and wasn't feeling great. He wanted to postpone the trip and go to the doctor. My mom contacted the hotel and I sent a message through Booking.com. We both explained the situation and got a terrible level of customer service from the hotel - absolutely no empathy. They just said "this is a non-refundable room" and left it at that... no "I'm sorry to hear this," no "I really wish I could help but..." Nothing. Simply, "this is anon-refundable room." and they denied our request for a free cancellation. The guy my mom talked to at Booking.com was very nice although he really couldn't do anything for us. The decision is made by the property. So, we decided to accept our fate and write it off as a lesson learned until we saw the cancellation fee... $669 - the entire costs to book the room. They kept ALL of my parents money. Not a cancellation fee of $295 or something like that - ALL. They kept ALL of my 83 year old, living off Social Security, father's money. Businesses (this one anyway) have lost all heart. My parents will get to go nowhere this year. They would not even reschedule the trip for my parents. This whole situation is just sad. Stay far away from this heartless, money hungry business. We explained everything and they did not...
