The top is nice, it would have been perfect if people could see an abundance of trees and less buildings, homes, business, hotels. I would of preferred to see nature in general and more tress, to compliment the beautiful mountains. Greatview Mountains and for those that like seeing homes and businesses well great view of that also. Now as for the space needle, pay close attention as to where are you standing in line to purchase your tickets. Because there are no signs and no organization. When we went to purchase our tickets, there was a couple in front of us that was in line and we asked them if they were in line to purchase their tickets and they said yes, there were several people in front of them also, and then the couple in front us realized that they were getting in line to get to the elevator. But to be fair there are to registers and the man that was line to to get on the elevator he was leaning against the the countertop where the other register is placed and see we all thought he was in to purchase the tickets. And there is no second person there giving direction or instruction as to which line is which. The day we went there was no second person, which was December 29th. Any way we had been in line for about 5 minutes or longer till the couple in front us realized they were in the wrong line because the one cashier went to open the elevator to let the group in so that group moved into the elevator and then the cashier and only person there walked to the far right side to the other register to ring more customers up, which was when we all realize that she had been ring up people and we had all been in the wrong line. We couldn't see because we were closer to the entrance door. But I been come on there should be some signs and some divider or a second person telling people what line is what. And more the other register away from the elevator. Or the cashier should have been barking out some direction and some instructions. Because sometimes people need to be told because not everyone has...
Read moreMountain views are great and they are especially enjoyable when, like me, you live in a place that is completely flat. This is why visits to mountain towns are so enjoyable to me and it was enough to convince us to take a family excursion to the Great Smoky Mountain town of Gatlinburg. While here, I noticed an attraction that looked like the perfect way to soak up the views. It’s the Space Needle Gatlinburg, located right in the heart of the city.
This observation tower is just over 400 feet in height, and I am pretty sure that makes it the highest structure in the city. You take a reasonably quick elevator ride to the top, take in the views, then head back down. Before our after you visit the deck, you might also want to play some games in the arcade- a feature of this attraction I was unaware existed until I arrived.
Easily the best feature of this attraction is the views of the area. You have a full 360- degree view, so you can walk all the way around and check out the views of the mountains from any direction. It is quite windy up here, and that is because it is open air. You can feel the strong wind against your face and you can feel the tower sway on exceptionally windy days. There is some history of the area on the walls at the top and a few places to sit.
Once you have taken in the views and snapped your pictures, it will be time to head back down. There isn’t much else going on up top, on the deck, and if you’re prone to fear of heights or any motion- related ailment, you may be anxious to get the views behind you and get back to the arcade. My teenager was with me and she wasn’t too thrilled with the wind and movements. She was feeling a tad sick, so we left after a short time.
I love mountain views and Space Needle Gatlinburg is a good way to enjoy the views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Gatlinburg area. It doesn’t have a lot going for it besides the views and for that reason, I consider this an average...
Read moreThe Gatlinburg Space Needle was a nice attraction compared to the many others. For the fair admission fee you get to go up once during the day and again at night since the needle stays open late almost every night. You take a short ride up the elevator to the top viewing observation deck where there is various seating benches and three out of 4 working telescopes to view the parkway or mountains. You can stay up on the deck as long as you want and just wait for the elevator when you are ready to come down. A few cons were the elevator needs some TLC and maybe repairs there are two elevators but only one is in service currently, and it looks rough, windows need cleaning the floors need replacing, new button panel, and proper inspection information needs to be visible to guests. Staff kinda gave a brief rundown of how to go up and down as its a self-serve kinda attraction. The emergency phone on the top deck looks like a old pay phone and probably wont even work lol. When your done on the needle you exit into their arcade and can play games or grab a slice of pizza at the pizza bakery inside. Overall the Gatlinburg Space Needle is a classic tourist stop and hopefully with some minor repairs and TLC it will continue to be one memorable stop....
