We (4 women) recently stayed at the Sarah townhouse which is part of the Inn at Lincoln Square in Gettysburg, PA. We looked forward to staying in a historic home; as we have done in the past. ||However, we were exceptionally disappointed in this townhome. The on-site booking did not disclose the extreme unevenness and narrowness of the main stair rises. In addition to the main staircase, there was an additional 2 steps to get to the main hall with a bedroom and another additional 2 steps to get down to the bathroom and remaining bedroom. The one step was very high and there were no railings for these additional steps. And, although one can expect narrow staircases in historic homes we would not have chosen this townhouse, especially given the extreme unevenness in the stair rises to the second floor and down into the narrow single bathroom. This is not a home for anyone with balance, hip, or knee challenges and was a challenge and safety issue for all of us, particularly one woman who uses a cane. ||The other warning we believe would have been helpful to know in the on-site booking description, is the extremely low ceilings in the upstairs hallway and one of the bedrooms. Yes, historic homes can often have low ceilings, but it would be helpful to know that anyone over five (5) foot six (6) inches will be ducking when on the second floor!||The bathroom itself is exceedingly small, with poor drainage in the sink. There are only 2 hooks for towels, so when you have 4 people, there isn’t anywhere to go with wet towels. The sink is so small, it’s almost comedic and there isn’t anywhere to place anything. And they don’t even supply one box of tissues!||The bedrooms also did not have much space. One of us had to keep her suitcase on the bed (yes even when sleeping) and the others on the floor, which was a tripping hazard. The mattresses need to be replaced – they were lumpy and the curtains have seen better days. In addition, only one of the bedroom doors closed, so there was no privacy. None of us slept well.||The living area was fairly nice and fit the historic home. But the kitchen needed some updating and needed to be better supplied. There were only the bare necessities, which was ok since there was only 4 of us, but any more than that, you’d be running out of plates, utensils, mugs, glasses, etc. Also, don’t forget to close the main door, because the screen door has such a large gap at the bottom, that mice could easily come into the house.||Parking is a real issue – with only 3 spaces at the townhouses, if you aren’t there early and don’t move, you’re out of luck. And the parking garage is not nearby – it’s a good block away. I can’t imagine dragging luggage from the parking garage to the townhouse through the streets. And there is no handicapped parking space.||The pluses are the location and the courtyard.||Bottom line - we only stayed one night. We left and went to a hotel, where we all got a good...

Staying at The Inn at Lincoln Square—specifically, the charming Sarah House—was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in the very heart of Lincoln Square, this beautifully preserved townhouse offered the perfect blend of historic elegance and modern comfort.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Gus and Hillary, whose kindness and generosity made us feel like honored guests rather than mere travelers. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality elevated our experience, ensuring that every moment of our stay was seamless and special.
The Sarah House itself is a treasure—steeped in history yet thoughtfully updated with modern amenities. The private courtyard provided a tranquil escape, while the convenience of on-site parking made exploring Gettysburg effortless. Just steps from the inn, we found ourselves immersed in the town’s rich history, with an abundance of boutiques, cafés, chocolate shops, and renowned restaurants surrounding us. Every stroll through Lincoln Square felt like stepping through time, with the echoes of history mingling beautifully with the vibrant energy of the present day.
This was, without a doubt, one of my favorite stays, and celebrating my birthday weekend here made it all the more magical. It was the best trip ever—a perfect balance of history, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality. I cannot wait to return to this exceptional inn, where past and present intertwine so...
Read moreMy husband and I have a tradition of staying in Gettysburg for his birthday. Despite living 20 minutes down the road, we like to pick places that are rumored to be haunted, and make a weekend of it. This was our first time staying at the Inn at Lincoln Square, and both my husband and I are eager to come back! As soon as we walked in, his reaction was, "WOW. This is the most amazing place I've ever stayed." We stayed in the Irene room on the 2nd floor.||The classic charm of the Inn is lovely and captures the aesthetic of Gettysburg beautifully while remaining unique to it's space. The Inn sits right on the square, just 2 doors down from our personal favorite bar and restaurant, the Blue & Gray. ||The furniture is comfortable. Our room was very clean. Our hosts were beyond accommodating (I am a great guest, albeit an annoying one who doesn't know when to stop asking questions lol). The bed looked to be about a large queen size; the bathroom was spacious; the living area was comfortable and large; the towels were stocked and clean; there is a decent sized kitchenette complete with a stove, microwave and refrigerator. This place was a wonderful stay for the price (in the off season).||I love to research the buildings we stay in. Do yourself a favor and do a quick Google search on the Inn before you stay here. The history is amazing, and the rooms are named after the Danner family...
