I have to express my significant disappointment regarding a recent stay at one of the properties "Ocean Villas" in March. As someone with extensive experience in the hospitality industry, particularly in restaurants, hotels, and catering facilities, I always strive to be understanding of challenges. It takes a truly subpar experience for me to provide negative feedback, and unfortunately, my short stay fell far short of satisfactory.
My concerns begin with the overall operational setup for the collection of hotels in the Hollywood Beach area. With at least 10-12 properties within a few blocks, it's notable that all share they are all owned and operated by Hollywood Beach Hotels and have one single check-in location, which also functions as a convenience store. Despite the high volume of guests from multiple "Hollywood Beach Hotels" properties, there were never more than two staff members managing only two or three computers. This setup, combined with staff also working the store's register, is insufficient and led to significant delays and created a consistently crowded environment, even with a minimal number of guests. While I initially empathized, understanding potential staffing shortages, the demeanor of the check-in staff was consistently rude and unhelpful. I was met with curt responses from being greeted with a "Yeah"( not Hello! or How can I help you?), and "your room isn't ready yet, you have to wait or pay the difference for a room that is available" upon arrival, and this unprofessional conduct, even from a manager, was truly surprising. I also experienced similar unpleasant interactions with other employees throughout my stay. The check-in process itself was a significant ordeal; after leaving and returning at the appropriate time, I still waited nearly 40 minutes to reach the front of the line. Furthermore, I was given a room key that didn't work, requiring a third trip to the front desk, where I was met with an unhelpful attitude when I DID NOT cut a line of a dozen waiting guests.
Beyond the frustrating interactions with the HBH team. Parking is another hurdle to overcome. I opted to use a ride-sharing service as the on-site parking is limited and, according to other guests, can be quite challenging to find and overpriced.
The condition of the room itself was concerning. The blinds were broken and completely ineffective, offering no privacy as the window directly faced a shared courtyard where guests could see directly into the room. The furniture, appliances, and fixtures were in poor shape, and the shower still had sand accumulated in a corner of the floor from previous guests. While the room wasn't explicitly "dirty," it was evident that minimal effort had been put into its cleaning and maintenance, with marked-up walls and surfaces. I was close to canceling my reservation, but unfortunately, there was no other availability in the area for my planned vacation. Despite the excellent location less than a block from the beach and the enjoyable boardwalk, the combination of the property's upkeep and the consistently unpleasant interactions with both managers and staff are enough to ensure I will not return. I've stayed in less expensive hotels with far better staff professionalism and property...
Read moreHBH has about 24 different properties you can book with, so be mindful of which one you choose. Some are worse than others.
We stayed in the Neptune hotel, and our room was overall pretty good and up to date. We didn’t notice any issues with bugs or it being dirty. A complaint we had on the room was our stove and oven never worked. They didn’t even have it plugged in for us, but once we plugged it in, it still didn’t work. It was super old anyways and looked really complicated. Be mindful of that incase you want to cook on a stove, they may or may not work. You also have to check out the kitchen items from the front desk. They come in a box and they don’t really give you good pots, and they give you no pans. Our fridge was good though! Very roomy and got pretty cold which was nice. The beds here are also comfortable. The outside of the Neptune is cozy and has many different tables and lawn chairs to sit in and watch the ocean waves and the broadwalk. Overall I did like the Neptune.
We had a chaotic experience as the Neptune was actually our third room in the entire visit we were there. We were placed in the Seaside originally, which honestly was not even bad, but we had no warm water. It was very cold and would not heat up, plus our knob for the shower didn’t work correctly and was hard to turn on. They replaced us into the Paradise building, which was even worse. The water pressure in the shower was very bad. It barely sprayed out any water. The furniture looked dated and ripped. The AC unit did not work and the room was hot. And to top it off, my friend saw a cockroach running up the walls. After all of this, our second day of our stay they placed us in the Neptune and we were much happier.
I can’t really say if I would want to book here again or not. HBH is really a hit or miss because each hotel and room is so different. I’m not the type of person who expects low cost hotel rooms to be fancy, as they are low cost, but I do expect the things in the room to work properly. With our inconveniences making us move twice, I’m not sure if I would want to deal with this all again. It really made the first night into the first day super annoying.
If you’re looking for a cheaper cost and wanting to be conveniently on the broadwalk by the ocean, I say HBH would be a good fit. They are cheaper than a lot of the other hotels, so they are affordable. Bigger hotels like the Margaritaville and Costa Hollywood are pretty pricy for a week, so you’ll save a lot if you just care to have a simple room and spend most of the trip outside your “resort”. They also have about 4 different motel pools to choose from when swimming, free continental breakfast (nothing exciting), and a bike and chair rental you can get 20% off at for staying with them. They also have pretty nice staff members and they worked really well with us for our issues we had. I would really just look into which building you’re booking with. I did end up liking the location and room of the Neptune and was happy we ended up...
Read moreI would urge people to stay far away from this hotel. Not worth the price you actually pay. Will absolutely never book here again. Not sure how they get good reviews, except numerous people have posted about a free item. Didn't see the sign when we were there, but there was a spinning thing to spin for a free prize, it just didn't say how to get the free prize.
Pros- -did not see any bugs/critters in the rooms -we were moved to a new room when we discovered a leak in the ceiling on our last night. -Close to the beach and walking distance to a lot of restaurants
Cons -there was a leak in our ceiling -one hour long breakfast with no hot food, which is fine but everyone is standing in a line and you're being yelled at to "keep the line moving" while everyone is digging cream cheese out of a big tub instead of having single serve we could take with us. The toasters in the rain was a special delight to see. Also, getting food in the rain with no under cover seating so you have to walk back to your room with your food getting wet was exceptionally fun. -Rooms were not well kept at all. All pictures are from our 2nd room, but our first room was more of the same. Sinks not really attached to the walls because the caulk was completely peeled. Shower curtain didn't come down far enough in our first room with a stall shower so there was water all over the floor. Toilet was wobbly because the caulk was pretty non existent there, too. -Taxes and fees exceeded a night's stay. Also when I was booking online, it gave me the price and after I clicked to book, the price was all of a sudden different and I received no receipt or confirmation email or explanation of charges. A lot of flights were delayed or canceled so when I went to the lobby to check out (we went to a different hotel), a lady was extending her stay and she was told the total and she said "you said on the phone $84+tax," and the lady at the counter said "now its $99+tax.)" -First set of room keys didn't work, so we had to stand outside waiting for someone to come help us. -Walls, doors, surfaces were visibly dirty. Missing/cracked floor tiles. Plugs so loose my phone charger wouldn't stay in some of them. Hair in the shower when we arrived. 2nd room didn't have hot water. -My charger was plugged into the same outlet as the air conditioner in our second room and it tripped the outlet. I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat from the AC unit not running. -The whole property was gross and unkept. Stairs cracking/crumbling. Trash left out. Dumpster/trash type smell by our first room. Pools were cloudy and had quite a few "floaters" (we used 2/4...
