Surf N Spray — Restaurant in Hollywood

3/3/25— After a long walk to help my Cuban food settle, thirst struck. I craved something organic, so I made my way to the spot where my husband and I had stationed ourselves at the beach. There was a small establishment nearby, and I had my heart set on a fresh carrot juice.

But, alas—no carrot juice. In fact, no juice at all. They did have smoothies, though, so I pivoted and went for one. It was good. Simple, refreshing, and the service was fast.

The place itself had an air of history, like it had been there for ages. And the guy making my smoothie? He had that look—the kind that says, I’ve been blending drinks here since before you knew what a smoothie was. His demeanor only added to the impression. There was something about the whole family running the place, too. They moved around like they belonged, like they had seen tourists come and go, trends rise and fall, yet here they stood—unchanging, unfazed, and probably blending the same classic smoothies...

I genuinely love this place and I hope it’ll be there for generations to come. I’ve been coming here since this small family business first opened its doors. Over the last 20 years, it’s become our family tradition to come here for pink and green ice cream. I don’t know what they make it out of, but I know that every time I order one, til this day, the owner always eats a sample before he serves it to us. That’s quality control to an extent only the passionate know about. I don’t know the family by name but a warmth in my heart and a smile on my face when I see them. Awful service, really. First time in this place, just looking to have some good ice cream and a good time. Left in shock. There was an attitude for every simple question and when asked if samples were allowed the lady said yes, but still got upset when I asked to try a second flavor. My husband asked for a third flavor and the lady said and quote “you have literally asked for five samples already.” The Ice cream melts as soon as it is placed on the cone, so basically you are forced to eat it in seconds.
