We booked this hotel through a travel company because it had a separate bedroom (private) and a kitchen. We wanted a truly separate bedroom for privacy (some Waikiki hotels that claim they are one bedroom are actually just a regular hotel room with a small living area/kitchen that are open to each other - what I would call a studio) and a kitchen to reduce our meals out. Our large bedroom had a door to separate it from the living area (privacy) and its own large balcony. The kitchen was large and stocked with a good assortment of cooking utensils and serving dishes. It included a dishwasher. The living area had its own large balcony. Our room faced the ocean and we had a view from both the living room and separate bedroom, but only the rooms on the south side of the hotel (and on higher floors) would have this benefit. The large bathroom was accessible only through the bedroom, which worked fine for us.
The staff were superb from check-in to check-out; they were always friendly and very responsive to any questions/concerns we had. As some have mentioned, there were some minor maintenance issues but nothing that was hazardous or took away from the amenities. For us, the positive attitude and helpful staff were of much greater value than worrying about a squeaky door hinge or misaligned cabinet door. The room was very clean upon check-in. Due to COVID restrictions, housekeeping was upon request (which suits us better anyway) but clean linens and towels were always available. Oh, and they have both POOL TOWELS and BEACH TOWELS! It was so nice to grab clean beach towels on the way out the door and drop them in the dirty bin on the way back to the room! Kept lots of sand from getting back to our room. We had one maintenance issue with an AC unit and staff responded quickly to fix the problem.
We also liked the location. It's not on the beach so if that's a must have for you and you're willing to pay for it, then this hotel isn't for you. But in my opinion, you couldn't get a better location off the beach because the only thing between the hotel and the beach is a park. A quick walk through the park and we were on the beach! The park has large, open grassy areas but also lots of shade so it was a great place to hang out whether you wanted to bask in the sun or protect your sensitive skin.
There are a couple of small convenience stores across the street that probably have whatever you might need or have forgotten. For our primary grocery shopping, we took Uber to Whole Foods - which isn't too far away. There were a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Both the Royal Hawaiian Center (high-end and local stores) and Ala Moana Mall were within a 10 minute walk.
We would definitely stay here again if we returned...
Read moreIt's a day of summer storm and I was all wet and soaked up to my underwear when I was running back to the hotel. I was hungry as I only had a chocolate wafer for lunch at the Missouri visit. It's late at night and after all the cleaning up and drying my clothes, I really didn't feel the mood to go out again in the downpour without rain gear. So I thought I should treat myself a room service which I seldom do. For I saw in the morning in my room a "Room Service" menu on the desk.
When I went about it I realized it's not room service as the word is understood in Asia or Europe (I don't know about America as people here have quite different way of doing things). It's just a delivery service run by a nearby restaurant. I asked the hotel front desk and they said there's no room service or any restaurant run by the hotel and I can only order this external delivery. I did try but was held up because their website asked for things like a US phone number and Zip code for credit card. As a foreigner I don't have any of them. After much to and fro, I managed to place the online order at last after struggling for half an hour and had to wait up to another hour for the delivery (which is another story).
Had it not been the rain, I certainly would not have made the order. I only did because room service should be simple quick and hassle-free. The hotel staff refused to get into touch with the restaurant for me because they've got nothing to do with it and this "Room Service" flyer was left by the restaurant people. I said no restaurant would have the authority and access to put it in a hotel room without your consent. And there's flyers not just in rooms but also right on the hotel front desk!
By the way, the A/C in room sounds like an...
Read moreMy family stayed here for 4 nights. I am writing this on the last morning of our stay, a few hours before we check out. I don't know where to start, but I will try to be brief. This hotel has roaches! The second day of our stay, my husbad killed a very large one in the bathroom. We didn't say anything the first time because we thought it would be a one time occurrance...it was not. When we finally tried to notify the staff the third night, they didn't have anyone from customer service at the front desk but a security guard who could not do anything, and she acted like it was not a big deal. They had no microwave in our room. When I enquired about using one just to warm up the food my family had, I was told by customer service that they can only let us use one in our room if we pay an additional $35.00 per night for it which I thought was crazy. They are charging a resort fee, but I cannot figure out why. They don't clean the rooms unless you stay for 5 nights, so the rooms get sandy pretty quickly. The pictures of the hotel online do not match this hotel. The outside of the hotel and the lobby make you think that the hotel is nice, but the rooms and hallways do not match the pictures. We will not be staying here again, and I am only writing this review to caution other families about thinking twice about staying here. They do not even deserve one star! The other reviews on this sight that have been favorabe must have been written by the hotel because this hotel and customer service have not in any ways matched the claims. Do yourself a favor, and do not book this hotel...
