I received the 250cc Honda Rebel motorcycle for rent from Cruzin Hawaii at a rate of approximately $129.95 for 3days plus insurance coverage at a rate of $20.95 per day during the week of Dec 8th 2017. I was excited for my travels and assisted well by the crew in getting going. I then realized there was already a larger cup size indent with signs of rust where the paint had come off (see pictures), I did not mind it as an issue thinking that this was a normal for this beginner rider's motorcycle and the laid back culture of the shop and Hawaii in general.
I admittedly placed scratches on the tank from carrying a surfboard from the surf rental shop to the beach which I found to be in regular practice among locals to carry their surfboards on scooters and motorcycles (see pictures). In fairness, there was a single hairline dent from the group of scratches that I placed, but I was unconcerned due to the large cup size dent with signs of rust on the right side of motorcycle and my perception of the laid-back relaxed culture of Hawaii. I perceived in my opinion that the scratches were negligible and could be removed with a clay-bar and wax detailing (see pictures).
Upon rental return, the store representative pointed out the scratches and informed me I was liable for damages for the "dent". I reluctantly took responsibility and agreed to work out a fair compensation with him.
In my attempt to reason with the store representative, I was being taken advantage of and patronized because of I was younger than the store representative and my lack of knowledge of how the business operated. After arguing back and forth, a lack of available time, and growing weary from the rising tensions, I had to stop fighting. I realized quickly I was not getting anywhere in the conversation and that he was going to make whatever excuse he needed to justify to replace the entire fuel tank. With the rest of my $350 deposit on the line, I signed and agreed to pay $170 based on an on-the-spot quote for a full replacement of the fuel tank with parts shipping and labor after researching the cost of the part to replace online on eBay.
In retrospect, I remember asking if the fuel tank was compromised then why wasn't it repaired before it was rented to me. The representative's response was that the part was "already on order". I now find this answer to be incongruent and rather "shady" in reflection because of the rust the showing the large dent and my pay towards repairs being unnecessary if someone as described already was paying for the motorcycle.
With this time to review the situation, I believe my lack of quick-wit and understanding of the shop's business practices was the stronger reason why I had to pay $170 for the fuel tank replacement than a legitimate need by the establishment to repair the motorcycle when I believe a clay, wax, and buff would have been more accurate and appropriate solution to the scratches I placed on the motorcycle.
In layman's terms.. I got got.
Had the bike been in better condition, I would have been more compliant at paying for damages, but because the much larger dent in the fuel tank was not fixed when it was rented out to me, I feel I was taken advantaged of as an unsuspecting customer.
I have worked in retail before and I am normally an advocate for small business and I am sometimes willing to pay a higher small business price to cover overhead costs, but situations like these I am very disappointed by being taken advantage of as a customer because of my lack of information and understanding.
It is my strong recommendation that future customers of Cruizin Hawaii rent at their own risk and should take more cautionary steps when doing business at this...
Read moreI rented an e-bike from Cruzin Hawaii to use while my own was being repaired.
You get a reduced rate if you rent the bike for over 4 days and my rate was about $32/day because I needed it for two weeks.
The staff is very friendly, professional and I would gladly rent a bike from them again if I needed one.
All that being said, the staff didn’t seem to be aware of the actual amount of time it takes to recharge the e-bike battery. Staff members gave me times varying between one and two hours. However, the actual amount of time it takes to recharge the battery is between 4 and 6 hours. One staff member told me that the bike had a battery life ranging between 8 to 12 hours. However, in constant use, it’s more like five hours. This is rather inconsequential for tourists who, I suspect, would simply ride their e-bike between shopping malls and the beach.
None of that would probably matter to the tourists and it was only a minor inconvenience to myself.
If an UberEats or Doordash driver needs an e-bike to temporarily use for work, Cruzin Hawaii offers an inexpensive way to provide themselves with the necessary transportation to use for work. If the battery runs low and you’ve purchased the insurance (+$20/day), Cruzin Hawaii can provide you with a replacement battery before 5:00pm, so that you can continue working and you can use the recharger when you get the bike home.
Again, Cruzin Hawaii basically saved my financial life by providing me with an affordable e-bike to use for work while my own was being repaired. In the future, they will be the people I call if/when a similar situation occurs...

The most terrible experience I've ever had and would not wish anyone to go through this.
I originally got a quote over the phone for $35 a day for a moped rental. When I got there right when it opened, the person, Dave, told me that they were out of the basic mopeds and the only choice I had was the premium mopeds. So I paid about $58 a day to rent a moped. My moped broke down on me in the middle of the street so I had to call them to come out to replace it. It took them about 2 hours to do so. They brought me a replacement moped that the guy told me the moped has starting issues but that was all they had. Two hours later as I was riding it, the moped broke down on me again. I called the shop and Dave answered and told me that they were closed and they couldn't come out to help me. He told me that I needed to find my own way to tow the moped back to the shop. Are you kidding me?! I'm a tourist in Hawaii and how am I suppose to tow this back?! Eventually after asking around several people I was able to have a nice person driving a flat bed to help me out.
I made it back to the cruzin Hawaii shop at night and saw Dave was still there. I had to get the bike off the flat bed and lock it up in the back by myself. Dave would not refund me for my rental. Instead, he called me the next day and told me that I scratch up a vehicle and that he was going to charge me for it. Fortunately, I took a video of the condition of the moped and I have proof that I did not do it.
This place is a freaken Scam! Do...
