Phenomenal Event Venue at the Westin Oaks Hotel
I recently attended a business conference at the Westin Oaks Hotel in the Galleria, and I was so glad I went. The event, focused on Black tech professionals, was hosted by OBSIDI in the ballroom on the 21st floor, and it was truly a remarkable experience.
First, a quick tip on parking: While parking is free, getting to the Galleria can be a bit of a challenge, especially during busy times. I recommend arriving early to secure a spot and to avoid any delays caused by traffic. Even if you’re staying close by, plan for the extra time it can take to navigate downtown Houston during peak hours.
The Venue: The ballroom was massive and beautifully set up. It was an impressive space that allowed for both intimate networking and large group presentations. The layout had separate areas for dining, drinks, and presentations—all in one room but perfectly arranged to maintain flow and comfort.
AV and Presentation Setup: I was thoroughly impressed with the AV system. The sound quality was excellent, and the mics were hands-free, allowing presenters to speak with ease while moving around. The lighting was also perfect—not too harsh on the presenters but clear enough to ensure the presentation was visible from any spot in the room. The AV team was quick to respond to any technical needs, which is always a huge plus.
Comfortable Seating: The chairs were incredibly comfortable, which is often overlooked at conferences. I’ve been to events where uncomfortable chairs make it difficult to focus, but Westin Oaks got this right. Attendees were able to stay alert and engaged throughout the event.
Food and Catering: The food was decent, though there were a few hits and misses. I enjoyed the variety of macaroni and cheese options, though some could have used a bit more seasoning. The highlight, however, was the taco bar—the nachos, fresh guacamole, and queso were absolutely delicious and tasted like they came straight from a great Mexican restaurant. That said, tacos can be a bit tricky to eat during a networking event, especially after shaking hands with dozens of people!
Staff and Service: The staff at the Westin Oaks were exceptional. From the moment I arrived, they were helpful and knowledgeable, guiding me to the event without any hassle. I was also impressed by the clear signage directing guests, which was especially important since attendees traveled from places like Atlanta and Canada for this premier conference.
Extra Perks: The hotel’s location in the Galleria is ideal, with easy access to shops, spas, and more. Although I didn’t stay overnight, the decor was elegant, the bathrooms were spacious, and I loved the full-length mirrors—perfect for a quick photo op!
Overall, if you’re looking for a well-equipped venue for a business conference or seminar in Houston, the Westin Oaks is a fantastic option. It’s a place I would seriously consider for my own future events as a life and career coach. The combination of excellent AV, attentive staff, and great facilities makes it a top choice for conferences.

Read moreI have long been a loyal Westin customer; however, this stay so far has had a multitude of unfortunate events with some bright spots:
When we checked in we were thinking about moving to the Westin Galleria. I asked if there were rooms available there. The manager behind the counter flatly said no and would not discuss. I called later and found that there were rooms available at the other hotel.
Original room was next to two rooms being renovated. I was told that the lower floors were under renovation and that we were being placed on a higher floor to avoid the construction. We had to walk across plastic on the carpet to get to our room. There was a strong smell of paint and a lot of dust and lots of work going on. One of the workers escorted me, unbidden, to my room when I was headed in the wrong direction and then came back and knocked on my door; scary! Daisy at guest services switched my daughter and I to another room to be safe.
Broken ice makers on two floors; after going down a floor had to go up a floor to get ice. This was still not remedied a day after I reported the problem
Room key was supposed to be "refreshed"? So when my daughter needed to get ready for a performance we were locked out of our room. The housekeeper manager let us in because she recognized us, thank goodness.
Called to get my car; got sidetracked in the lobby. Twenty-five minutes after I called guest services the car had not been summoned. The valet said to call valet directly, always.
Ordered dinner, one entree did not come, called Alex in guest services and he told me he was sorry but the kitchen was closed. I explained that I had ordered half an hour before. We discussed for some time and I finally I got frustrated and said Alex, I don't care if the kitchen is closed I would still like... Alex interrupted and said I know you don't care but the kitchen is closed. I asked what time the kitchen closed. Alex said 11:00. I asked what time is was and Alex said 11:03. WOW
These are just a few examples...
The renovated rooms are nice, and the boots on the ground at this hotel are great but go much higher up and you get a lot of attitude and little customer service.
P.S. When I was trying to post this review the spotty wifi went down; coincidence??? Maybe...Just kidding, but could someone please get us out of...
Read moreI booked a room for a business trip and was excited to stay at the westin oaks. I had heard it was a great hotel and for the price I thought it would be great, but sadly I was mistaken. Upon check-in everything seemed nice and the gentleman that checked me in was kind, but when I got upstairs to my room it was another story. The bed sheets had black hair on them so I called downstairs and requested a set of clean sheets. I was upstairs for about 45 minutes and still nothing. I had to leave so I stopped by the front desk and put in a second request and was told they would have them changed. When I can back several hours later, I found NOTHING had been replaced. I called downstairs again and told them for a 3rd time I needed CLEAN sheets. About 25 minutes later a made arrived with sheets and dropped them off. I started to strip the bedding and found something (dirt of some sort) all over the comforter when I pulled it off the bed and realized the housekeeper did not bring any pillowcases. So AGAIN I called the front desk to request pillowcases and a clean comforter. This was approximately 10:00 pm and I was ready to go to bed. At around 10:30- 10:45 still nothing, so I went back downstairs and asked again and was told yes ma'am we will send that up right away. At almost 11pm still nothing finally I found a housekeeper walking in the hall and asked her if I could PLEASE have some pillowcases and comforter. She did not speak any English but finally after two trips she brought me a duvet and duvet cover and some pillowcases. She did not put it together nor did she change the bedding for me. So I put the cover over the duvet, pillowcases on the pillows and sheets on the bed. For the "inconvenience" the front desk stated they would give me a $25 credit on my account so i could order room service or something. Seriously it was already almost midnight and I had to be up early. I didn't want food. I wanted to go to bed in a clean bed. Upon check out the front desk asked if I had used my credit and I told no I did not the front desk gentleman then asked for my email and stated someone would email me by the end of the day to 'resolve' the issues. Still no email or phone call not that I am surprised. It is super frustrating especially when it is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. I would not ever recommend this...
