I've always been a fan of Legos, especially as a young child. Since early 2021 I got back into them, and when I was a child in the mid to early 90s (Born in 86) the majority of my big lego store visits were at Toys r Us and KB toys.
I was very underwhelmed visiting this Lego store location. There were a few items there you couldn't find online, and the people working there would answer basic questions. They were not interested in having conversations or talking about the product with me. The employees seemed like they were just uninterested in helping and talking. I asked about the cmf series 22 and about feeling packages. The employee responded "We're not really supposed to let anyone do that." I picked up and looked at one bag, because I wanted to buy some and it was the first time I saw them in person. The employee snapped at me and told me to stop "doing" that as if I was feeling. I noticed there was around 22 BAM examples in a clear box to show which ones are available. I saw one I like and didn't see it on the shelf. There were about 6 bam packages on the shelf, total. I asked a different employee if they had more in stock because the 6 3-bam packages had very slim pickings and all had Santa, ms Santa, and spider woman / Halloween minifigs. Mainly holiday ones. He quickly shrugged and responded with "Sorry that's all we have." Seeing as how all the employees were males in whom seemed in their early or mid 20s, I feel I may have gotten different answers if I was a female. Being a 35 year old male in a store staffed with 20 year old males made me quickly realize what was going on. I quickly grabbed five series 22 packages and the 2 best bam packages I could find, provided my lego vip, paid and left. I doubt I would ever take the time out of my way to go there ever again.
As my first visit to a Lego store, especially at a location as prestigious as the Galleria, their attitude really was not as helpful as it should have been.
Hopefully I have better luck with Willowbrook. These employees in these stores are the face of the company, and if the employees don't even seem interested in chatting with interested customers, why are they...
Read moreThis store is one of my family's favorite places to visit in Houston! The staff are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The store, while allowing children to play in certain sections with piles of bricks, is never messy.
There was one instance where I had purchased a discounted Ninjago set but when we got home found there were pieces missing. I explained the issue with the store manager, Merlin, and he not only apologized for the issue but he straight up replaced the set no problem.
While you may be able to find sets cheaper due to clearance or discounts in other stores like Target or Walmart (not Toys R Us as they tend to charge $5-20 more and then offer "discounts"), the experience of checking out the store and finding cool and interesting sets, or even filling a bucket full of different bricks via their Wall of Bricks is well worth the visit if you're in the Houston area. They also do monthly events like free mini builds, Club Member meetings based on themes for children to build to and discuss in front of their peers, and other random little events.
If you're in the Galleria, especially with children who hate shopping, promise them a visit to the store after you get your errands done. They'll love it, and you might even find something that your own inner kid is just...
Read moreThe Houston Galleria Lego store is small, but has a good selection, the friendliest staff, and has those new Lego's in stock. Get the Lego Insider's card, it's free, and you will earn points you can spend at any time. The back wall always has a selection of Lego. You can buy a small or large box (anything you can fit in the box) for your own builds. Lego frequently has promotions where they give you a small set, as low as a $40 purchase can get you a collectable set that frequently is never sold individually. The staff will always take time out to answer any question you may have, or even chat about your Lego wants and needs. Lego is one of the most versatile toys ever invented, and Legos always work because they are manufactured to an incredibly tight tolerance. They do not slip when they aren't supposed to, and they do not break when they are put together correctly. If you ever have a problem with a Lego set or piece, get with a store manager, or with Lego.com. They will...
