I was going to be visiting Indianapolis for the first time as I was attending a show in the area. After digging around for hotels that were nearby the venue and were also reasonably priced, I located this Holiday inn Express. I have an IHG basic membership so I was able to lock in a bit of a discounted pricing and then further by selecting a non-refundable room well ahead of my stay. It was very reasonably priced given it is downtown and put me within just a few miles of the venue (old national centre) One thing to note, as I witnessed this happen first hand. There is this holiday inn Express and there is also a "standard" holiday inn in the same block. They are literally across the way from each other and you can see it from the parking lot. The guest ahead of me booked the standard holiday inn, and Canary, the front desk attendant, was extremely understanding and helpful to show the gentleman where he needed to go when she realized why she couldn't locate his booking. The check-in process was extremely quick. Canary gave me the run down on the amenities, time frames for the pool, fitness gym, breakfast, and check out. Once I got settled into my room, I wanted to go explore downtown before my show later that evening. I had looked up some possible places on maps but wanted confirmation they were actually walking paths, as I was walking out, I stopped at the front desk and Canary confirmed for me the closest place and gave me a recommendation on which way I should head. Had a wonderful experience exploring around the canal area and subsequent downtown via the canal path. When I returned from my show later that evening, I discovered the parking garage also had EV chargers available. I was able to get one of the two available level 2 chargers and topped my battery off for my return trip home the following day. In the morning, I stopped into the fitness center for a quick workout on the treadmill and then some free weights. After finishing up, I grabbed some breakfast (which they were keeping well stocked and fresh, the automatic pancake machine is cool) The only issue I had during my stay, and this had nothing to do with the hotel itself, was that there is an intersection outside the hotel that had cars all through the night with loud music and loud exhausts sitting for an extended amount of time as they waited at the light. I tend to be a light sleeper so there were a few instances of cars waking me up as a result of that around 2am or so. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this location if you need to stay in the area. The parking fee was very reasonable for my stay, given the location in a prime downtown area.

Stayed for the Taylor Swift concert two weeks ago. Quick summary: really nice hotel and breakfast in the morning was decent. View from the room (room 944) was great. Things are good walking distance. Had some issues with the room's ac unit. Good: Arrived early and they checked me in early. Awesome! "Bob#2" was very nice and helpful (and cute) that Sunday. Staff was also very helpful and understanding of events that happened to me and my partner and helped us out. They also kept the lobby nice and organized despite the Taylor Swift madness, which honestly is amazing. They were a nice crew~ The Eh: Tbh the room layout is kinda off and weird, with the tv placed in between the Bed and sofa, facing the side of the desk. Can't be moved so we couldn't see much tv from the bed. The AC unit came with instructions, which was nice. Bad part was that it just wouldn't work properly. During the night, it became too hot when I set the AC to cool down to 65 (it wouldn't go further down from 68.9 or such and it felt like it was off...). Lastly, there seemed to be a small pest problem of lady bettles, as I saw around 3 (which I caught in a cup and placed it next to the tv cuz it was getting really annoying (didn't kill because ove heard these release a small stink)) and I could see a few others on the outside glass in the window. The Bad: I remember naming a reservation months in advance as the Taylor Swift concert was announced and got ticket. Was really disappointed me was that the first reservation (unpaid) was confirmed only to be canceled about a month or two later. When checked, rooms were still available, but the price increased tremendously. She already had her heart set on this hotel so I made it again and this time paid so as to not have it denied. But that first cancelation was uncalled for and really ticked me off then. Unsure if that's something hotels normally do for concerts and the like, but I find it most unfair.

I went here a year ago also for the NCAA tournament (that time the games were downtown) and this year it was at Lucas Oil Stadium right across the street. At the time I gave them 4 stars out of 5, but after this stay, if I could lower it to 2.5 stars I could. Here the reasons we were not happy, and things are getting worse, not better:||1) Last year I commented that there was not adequate seating for breakfast and people were sitting on a couch to eat and it would have been much better and easier to have tables there instead. It hasn’t changed and again, people were wandering around looking for places to eat.||2) They sent a text message once we checked in saying we could reach out anytime with requests which I thought was nice. I then sent a text message early Saturday afternoon asking if we could get a late check out on Sunday. After five or six hours of no response, I gave up and called them and got it. I wasn’t expecting an instant response, but why bother doing this if nobody is monitoring the line?||3) They got rid of the coffee machines in the room, so good for the hotel’s bottom line but not good for us. There was a sign you could just get coffee in the lobby instead, which they always offered.||4) The hot tub in the pool was out of service the last day and I saw multiple people were disappointed.||5) Finally, I was worried about how parking would work with the games and whether we would be able to get a spot. I talked to a woman the day before and she said not to worry, the lot is reserved for hotel guests. I then asked about Sunday, the day we were checking out and there was a game in the afternoon. I specifically asked her whether we could stay in the lot or be forced to leave and then must look and pay for parking. She said it wasn’t a problem and we could stay. Now fast forward to Sunday, and my wife and daughter were putting our suitcase in the car in the morning and then a burly hotel worker barks at my wife ‘are you checking out today?’, and then she said yes and walked away without saying anything. I then started to worry and called the front desk and sure enough, she said we had to move our car to the official hotel garage and pay a new fee. I told her that is not what the worker told me before and she just said she was wrong. I then had to pay another $30 (cash) just to stay so I guess I’m lucky that person was there, otherwise our car could be towed. ||There are plenty of other hotels in walking distance, so we will...
