Over the past 5 years, my husband & I have stayed at the Omni Severin several times, exclusively each time we visit Indy. The hotel has a great location, and for the most part, we have always enjoyed our stays. Unfortunately, our most recent stay last week will likely be our last. We continued to choose the Severin due to the great location downtown. You are a short walk away from many restaurants, bars, the mall, etc. It really is a great place to stay if you don't intend to drive around the city.
To reserve a room, I called the hotel directly to book. I discussed at length what we were looking for and the agent described their City View rooms, which is what we wanted. I let her know we would be arriving at around noon, and she said would put in a note about our arrival time so we could secure an early check-in. Unfortunately, she ended up booking the wrong room. I only found this out after reviewing the confirmation email, therefore I immediately had to call back.
We ended up arriving right at 4:00 PM, which is normal check-in time. Our room still wasn't ready (again, I was told it would be ready at noon), and we were shoo'ed off to the bar to wait. At about 4:30, we were told they were ready to check us in. We got checked in and we went up to our room on the top level of the hotel. It was very warm in the elevator and hallways, and the room was no cooler. We turned the thermostat down to 65, but unfortunately this was just the beginning of an incredibly uncomfortable stay. The 3 days we were there were unbearable due to the heat. We spent very little time in the room. Out of fairness, I will add that it was anywhere between 94-100 degrees outside mid-afternoon. Our last two nights in the hotel were absolutely miserable. We got very little sleep. Our room was at least 80 degrees and we considered checking out a day early just to avoid it. I considered alerting the front desk, but the fact of the matter was that the entire hotel was hot. It wasn't just our room. It was apparent that the AC system just could not keep up with the demand.
The room (City View) itself was a generous size. We chose the City View room mostly for the balcony overlooking downtown as it was July 4th, and the balcony was equipped with patio furniture. To our disappointment, our furniture had NO seat cushions (see photo). We peeked over at the two surrounding patios, both which had a full set of cushions. Our last night there, there was a chair sitting next to our balcony from another (vacant) room. I ended up "borrowing" the cushion from that chair so my husband could sit down comfortably for once. The doors to the patio were very heavy, clunky, and the lock mechanism was flimsy. The view from the patio was spectacular, and we were able to stand out there and watch the fireworks erupt across the city. It was the only redeeming part of our stay.
The room decor is dated, some with minor damage as well. The mattress was not very comfortable. There was also a large, rusty looking stain on the right side of the mattress. The room was spacious, had a desk, small loveseat in front of the bed, and a chair with ottoman. The bathroom was a good size, although the vanity was small and left little room to put your items around. The shower had great water pressure and well regulated temperature. The shower drain was very slow and by the end of my 15 minute shower, I was ankle deep in water. The room was equipped with a small safe for valuables and a refrigerator. Overall, the room is in dire need of a revitalization, especially for the cost of the room per night.
We visited the Severin Bar our first night there, and it was very lively. The drinks and food were good, and we enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there. All of the staff we encountered were pretty friendly.
Overall, this is not a bad hotel, but for the price per night, you could be staying at newer or more lux hotel. This hotel will need some TLC before we...

My business partner didn't arrive until after 1:00am that night. Just prior to her arrival I stopped by the desk to check if she had arrived and was told she hadn't. A half hour later I received a call from my partner, saying she couldn't get into the hotel. So I went down to check to see what was going on. When I stepped out of the elevator I could see two men standing behind the reception desk, looking out toward the lobby's entrance, smiling. Walking out of the elevator foyer I could clearly see my business partner standing outside the lobby doors, anxiously waving and knocking to get in. The men behind the desk just stood there, watching her. So I went and let her in. As I escorted her to the reception desk the larger of the two men ducked into the back room. I asked the remaining gentlemen why he hadn't let Jaime (my business partner) in. He claimed that he hadn't seen her because of the construction taking place in the lobby had obstructed his view of the doors. Turning around I could see that he had had an unobstructed view of Jaime at the door from his position. But I let it slide and Jaime checked in and I helped her with her bag to her room. As soon as we stepped into it we were hit by the heavy smell of mildew. We immediately went back to the lobby to get a new room but as soon as we got off the elevator we saw the two guys behind the desk smiling at us with what could only be graciously described as an unsettling demeanor. So I told Jaime to spend the night in my room and we'd get things straightened out the following morning. The next day we complained about the incident to the gentleman running the convention and he brought the matter up to your day manager, who later called Jaime. I was with her when the call came in and listened as Jaime tried to tell the manager what had occurred the night before. She kept on stopping in her narration, apparently getting cut off by the person on the other end of the line. Jaime finally handed her phone to me and asked if I'd deal with it. Sure enough your manager kept interrupting me also when I tried telling him what happened, so I talked over his interruptions until I had the tale told. He then claimed that his staff was so well trained that what I was describing couldn't have happened. In other words, what I saw just didn't occur. When I pointed this absurdity out to your manager he barked at me that he had listened to me respectfully and that I was now going to listen to him. That's when I hung up on him. I don't know if Jaime having to stand out in the cold contributed to it or not, but by Sunday she was running a 104 degree temperature and we had to stay two days longer at the hotel than we had planned. After this treatment I'm never again going to stay at an Omni Hotel and going to warn everyone I meet to...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis and it was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. The hotel blends historic charm with modern comforts in a way that makes it feel both elegant and inviting. The lobby is beautiful, with high ceilings, rich woodwork, and a warm atmosphere that sets the tone right away. Check-in was smooth and the front desk staff were friendly and efficient, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived.
The location is excellent. The hotel sits right in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, connected to Circle Centre Mall and within walking distance of the Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium, Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and a wide variety of restaurants and attractions. It made exploring the city incredibly easy and convenient, whether on foot or with a short rideshare.
My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The bed was plush with crisp linens and plenty of pillows, ensuring a great night’s sleep after a busy day. The décor reflects the historic character of the building but still feels fresh and well maintained. The bathroom was spotless and stocked with quality toiletries. Thoughtful touches like a coffee maker, ample outlets for charging devices, and quiet hallways added to the comfort.
The amenities at the Omni Severin also deserve praise. The fitness center is well equipped for keeping up with workouts while traveling, and the hotel’s restaurant and bar offer a relaxing place to enjoy a meal or drink without leaving the property. Breakfast was particularly good, with a mix of hearty and healthy options served promptly and attentively. Room service was quick and kept to the same high standard of quality.
Service throughout the hotel was consistently excellent. Every staff member I interacted with, from the bell staff to housekeeping, was professional, courteous, and genuinely seemed to care about making my stay enjoyable. They were quick to offer recommendations for things to do in the city and happy to help with small requests.
What stood out to me most was the way the Omni Severin combines history with hospitality. You can feel the hotel’s heritage in its architecture and design while enjoying all the modern conveniences and a high level of service. It feels like a part of Indianapolis rather than just another chain hotel.
Overall, the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis exceeded my expectations. Between its prime downtown location, comfortable rooms, excellent amenities, and attentive staff, it is an ideal choice whether you are in town for business, a sporting event, or a weekend getaway. I would gladly stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting...
