I don’t even know where to begin, but this is only the start of our complaint process as I am not only incensed by the audacity of this particular Days Inn and their staff, I find it intolerable and would highly advise steering clear of this establishment, particularly if you value honor, dignity or respect for yourself and others.
We’re (my husband, little 10lb dog and I) a military family and drove almost 13 hours to NH, NC, so when we found the air still and full of mosquitoes in this particular area, we decided to splurge up from camping to a single night in a nice beachfront hotel with a view and near a fancy dinner.
We booked the room through Priceline, full well knowing what Priceline’s policies are and how to use the website as were repeat bookers across both of our accounts. When we arrived at the hotel 20 minutes later, however, all broke loose.
I asked as we were beginning the check-in process where our room was, and if it were at all possible to obtain a beach view room with outside access. We were told by a young lady whom I do not fault because maybe she was new, but that our room was second from the right facing the beach. As my husband signed the check-in papers, we were THEN told we couldn’t have pets.
Well, this is a huge problem as on the website we had pet selected as a necessary amenity. In addition, it’s nearly 100 degrees in stagnant, humid air, and even if I left the doors wide open for our doggie in the truck, she wouldn’t fare well. I told them we couldn’t take the room and we would have to cancel. My husband walked out of the hotel, and I asked for a refund or cancellation, stating that we needed to cancel more than than once. At that time, an elderly lady stated to the desk clerk — not to me as I stood there, that we would have to call Priceline and that they couldn’t authorize the cancellation, only Priceline could.
45 minutes later after having tried to find the room, (Spoiler: It’s not the second door from the right on the rear beach side of this hotel, nor does the number for this room show on the outside of the building) and began the contact process for Priceline, we came back up to the inside of the hotel and asked for the key to find that this room is a JANITOR closet sized joke. We opened the door and looked out the window.. which is nowhere near the beach but actually looks at the wall of the building next to it and a weird yard.
The rest of the room was literally filled with a single queen sized bed, so oversized for the very limited space, but the bathroom door opened into. We left, went out the back door of the hotel and to our vehicle, a total of 5 minutes, and got on the phone with Priceline.
As we were escalated to a more advanced customer representative, Jeff, we drove back to the front of the hotel registration and upon his approval went inside for a cancellation authorization that was about to be approved by Priceline. Jeff placed us on hold and called the hotel for the second time, with another representative having already called and spoke to “Sarah”, who refused to cancel.
This Sarah, right in front of me, answered the phone a second time and in the most derisive tone I have ever heard, lied to Jeff and stated we had been in possession of the hotel card for nearly three hours and that she refused to authorize the refund even though it had been clearly noted they were both dishonest about the room, and Priceline had erred and sold us a non pet guaranteed room.
The keys were snatched away by Sarah, who then refused my request to speak with management, and who had the dirtiest look and tone in her face and voice when she told me to leave.
We’ve already started the charge back process with our bank and a formal complaint with Priceline and Wyndham.
Not very often in this world of consumerism and service have I seen such atrocious behavior and refusal to cooperate with mistakes whomevers they may be. This location of Days Inn sold the same room to some sucker after refusing to authorize a transaction refund to Priceline.

Read moreWe stayed in the Wright Cottages, unit 267. We were looking for a place to stay on the OBX that was affordable for our party of 6 (dad/mom and 4 teens). First-the price is amazing!!! Less than $700 for a Fri-Mon stay is VERY cool especially when you are 10 stairs and 30 steps to the beach!! Plus, the beach access is private and dedicated to these rentals—it is not public beach access. Excellent location; about 2 1/2 mile walk on the beach to Avalon Pier and 3 1/2 mile walk on the beach to Nag’s Head Pier. Only an 8 min drive to Jockey’s Ridge. Lots to do close by. Location feels safe and secure. Employees are amazing and friendly! Beds slept fine, although after the first night we had 1 teen sleeping on the couch (which totally worked!), but that was because everyone was sunburned. Unit was clean and A/C worked great!! We had 2 vehicles and initially we parked back to back in the spot allocated for our unit; then we realized that overflow/additional cars should park in the small lot you drive through to get to the units—it was only about 40 feet or so from the unit, very close and accessible! Our Dodge Mega Cab fit nicely in the spot allocated for the unit too (unit 267), so the spot is decently sized—our Dodge would not have fit in a few of the other units’ parking spots, but in that case we could have easily parked in the overflow area. I believe the Air’b’n’b ad listed this as someone’s house, but I don’t believe that is actually the case—it’s more like external cottages belonging to the Day’s Inn at Kill Devil Hills. Check-in requires going to the Day’s Inn front desk and getting a keycard, just like a hotel room. I don’t personally consider that self check-in…based on the ad I’d expected a code for a doorlock to be emailed the day of our arrival. We couldn’t find an outdoor shower…They may be classifying the garden hose as the outdoor shower, but it was not the normal beach-house outdoor shower with a showerhead and lumber walls; it was a hose hooked to the spigot at the house located under the stairs/deck, still does the trick to get sand off, though! The ad listed open pool dates as May-Sept, so I thought we’d have the pool as an option since we stayed the 2nd weekend in May…but that wasn’t the case since the pool doesn’t open until Memorial Day, which was a bummer. The kitchen was very small. No counter space for anything and no place/cupboard to put food other than top of fridge and on the kitchen table. kitchen had an oven, but no mitts or hot pads and no true coffee maker (it was Keurig machine for coffee pods). You won’t easily be cooking in this kitchen because of the size. The internet was mediocre speed, but that’s to be expected; also not password protected for those who care about that kind of stuff. Definitely no bath towel replacements and only 1 roll of toilet paper. We learned that microwave use during the day may trip the fuses and we were without lights for a few hours, but they were great about fixing it and it was like camping for a bit! I do recommend this place, but not for 6 people. I think 3, maybe 4, is the max if the folks staying are adults/teens. The price point is great (at least before Memorial Day), but the lack of space and limitation of 1 bathroom made it really difficult at times. However, considering the proximity to the beach and the private beach access, we’d stay here again with less people at...
Read moreI wish I knew about the reviews sooner, didn't know you can write one. I've been staying here in the days inn with my family since 2008. We always loved coming to this hotel and still do. As much as it pains me to write a review like this but on the summer of July 2023 of last year, we had a terrible experience with the breakfast lady and the morning front desk manager. My grandma who was with us, she was sitting in the kitchen by herself finishing her breakfast. This breakfast lady (blonde haired), not sure if she still works there but she came up to my grandma, tried moving her cane over. Yelled at her and told her to get out. Harassing my grandma who was 87 at the time, for no reason. Trying to kick her out of the cafe. My grandma didn't speak much of English. She was handicapped and could barely walk.
My mom came into the kitchen because she heard yelling. The breakfast lady went to grab the manager (african american with a short haircut). She came out and started yelling at my mom. My mom didn't know what happened because she just got there. She asked what was going on, calmly. The manager gave my mom a look, yelled at her more and said "you have always been a problem here." After she was done, she went right back in the kitchen and just SLAMMED the door shut. I was standing in the lobby and heard everything.
Like seriously? This is who's running this place now? We have been staying in this hotel for many years, and have never experienced anything like that here.
Not sure if this is due to lack of training or what but you're not supposed to treat any customer/guest like that no matter what rank you are. It would definetly not be worth staying here and spending more money if this is how we or anyone else get treated by any staff member, especially coming from the "manager." Unprofessional. Very disappointing and shameful. You can do...
