I will not be back. We’re visiting the OBX for the week. All my 76 year old mother wanted was to get donuts and sticky buns from this bakery. I took her in around 8:30am Thursday morning. One patron was at the counter ahead of us. We already knew what we wanted. The lady at the counter asked how many we were getting and we told her “24”. She looked instantly panicked and I clarified “just 12 sticky buns and 12 honey buns”. In my mind, and based on experiences at other bakeries, this does not seem to be a difficult order, however, it seemed like a big deal to her. She told us that in the future we can call ahead a large order. I acknowledged what she said. I responded that we didn’t know that information and it’s good information to have and thanked her for said information. She then told us three more times in the span of 5 minutes while she boxed up our order. The final time she told us to call ahead, I told her not to worry we won’t be back, but thanked her again for the information- for the third or fourth time. It was just unnecessary to continue grinding in her obvious frustration with us and our order. Message received, lady, we won’t be back. K, thanks.
Now, for the food- the fry on the doughnuts is nice. There’s a really good fry on them, I was impressed. The dough itself is nice and light and very good. The flavored glazes could be better, in my opinion, but that’s just me. The sticky buns were on the dry side. I come from Pennsylvania Dutch country and the bar for sticky buns is high in PA. If they had more gooey topping on them, they would have been pristine. Possible consideration for improvement would be to have the option to add topping to them (this is commonplace to do up north, for what that’s worth). The honey buns are perfection. Perfectly cooked, perfect glaze. Huge size. Just a really really great breakfast pastry.
Also, to clarify, they only had 7 honey buns so we got a variety of 5 doughnuts to try. I was totally fine with them only having 7 honey buns. We were perfectly happy to get to mix and match donuts. Also, to note, we did not take long to decide on which donuts. I assure you we were at the counter a very brief time.
All in all- donuts are meh due to the glazes. Sticky buns were a little dry. Honey buns are ON POINT. If you go here, get a honey bun. They are the best out of the variety we purchased. If you don’t care about customer service, visit away! If you would like a bit more courtesy from the staff, then check out other places.
We spent $98 on donuts and I...

It's totally okay to write a review about my experience good or bad, typically I only leave reviews when I am super excited about a place, but you just treated me with such disdain for taking up a minute and a half of your time ordering, I felt you should know. I didn't disparage your business. Three stars was fair as customer service was bad but man your pastries were awesome. Your response was condescending and passive aggressive.
I am here on the outer banks helping someone close to me with post op care, not on vacation. I lived here for 18 years and worked in the service industry for many of those years. I was always confused about the small percentage of those in the service industry who always thought that the outer banks is the only place where people are over worked, under paid, understaffed, super busy and under a lot of pressure and that somehow entitled them to be super rude. That anyone not from the outer banks is totally oblivious to such adversity in the work place and out of touch somehow.
Also, the only reason we ended up stopping at your business was because the person I was with, who had just had a major surgery the day before, was craving a cinnamon roll from McDonald's and I suggested we support a small business instead.... as I am a small business owner and just care about money going back into communities versus corporations.
Man your pastry cheffing is soooo good, but your attitude sucks, just...
Read moreWorst customer service I have ever experienced. My daughter and I have a gluten allergy. Every diner was packed on the way home so we decided to stop quickly for a bite to hold us over until lunch. There was NOTHING gluten-free offered except for coffee which is fine because we work around that at a lot of restaurants. We decided to get bacon, egg, and cheese with no bun. I told him that my daughter and I are gluten free so we cannot have the bun and placed my order. The man behind the counter made a huge sign and groan as if it was the biggest inconvenience ever that he had to deal with...multiple sighs, went back to the kitchen to talk to the cook, etc. I think he just didn't know how to price anything. After multiple groans and sighs, I said, "How do you think we feel? We would like to eat the bread." He said nothing and kept going on about his extremely rude tirade. We don't LIKE being gluten-free....we already feel like an inconvenience when we need things special ways...and my daughter is only 9 and had to be made to feel bad for making a "special" request. All we did was ask for no bread. If I hadn't already ordered and there was no where else to get a bite....I would have left. I will never go back. Ever. My husband asked for a sandwich with a potato roll which was on the menu and the guy behind the counter said, "Nope, not gonna happen." I feel bad for his son because the food is good and he is the cook. People outside even apologized and stated that this place is not a good example of southern hospitality. My husband told them that it is bad by northern...
