We had Chef Virginia and her team serve dinner for my Mother-in-Law's 70th birthday as part of our beach vacation.
My MIL has always been the one to throw the party so planning one for her is tough. Sheâs also a hobby chef, fascinated by French cuisine, and travels to Paris often. The bar was set high and Virginia went above and beyond.
I spoke with a couple other chefs in OBX but I wanted someone personable who we would want to have in our âhomeâ and who my MIL could gab about French food with if she wanted to.
Before booking, Virginia and I had a couple of warm conversations that made me feel like sheâd be a good fit. She was flexible and creative with menu options.
I was worried about the terrible kitchenware at our rental beach house kitchen, she brought her own.
I was worried we wouldnât have enough food (weâre big eaters) I even offered to pay more to have more, she declined and assured me we would have plenty and we did.
I was worried I wouldnât get to enjoy the fun as Iâd be putting the baby down as food was starting to be served. Virginia saw that I was having to step away and made me a plate of all the yumminess so I wouldnât miss out!
I assured Virginia that all the kids would eat the regular menu, but last minute my niece said she really didnât want the seafood in the main course, Virginia used some of the filet from the appetizers to make her a beef entrĂ©e instead. Amazing!
I was worried that the experience wouldnât be impressive enough to my well-traveled MIL â WOW was she impressed. She couldnât stop talking about the meal for the rest of the vacation.
From our initial phone call, to the lobster bruschetta and filet toast appetizers, to the amazing entrĂ©e to the fresh peach crumble â Virginia was the right choice and made our family party an amazing night...

We had a big house for the entire week leading up the wedding and I was looking for unique ways to spend time with our close family before the craziness! I booked Chef Virginia Miller from Modern Coastal Cookery to do a Private Chef's dinner at the house on the Tuesday night before the wedding and OH.MY.GOSH. She went so above and beyond any expectations I had. From start to finish she was an absolute pleasure to work with. She sent me SO many wonderful menu options - it was nearly impossible to pick! My family was able to relax and enjoy a beautiful night together as she and her team prepared several courses - which included the BEST local Red Drum with Roasted Root Vegetables, Organic Polenta, and a Chablis Beurre Blanc. OH and the best Cheesecake I've ever tasted. I still think about it......
It doesn't stop here. I also booked her to do my Bridal Brunch on Friday morning. She did the most gorgeous and delicious sausage & herb souffles, potatoes and fruit. Finished off with Pain Perdu that was to die for!!
Chef Miller and her team are not only talented cooks, but also so fun, polite and professional. We will continue to book her every time we go back to the OBX...
   Read moreWe hired a private chef for a birthday dinner during our beach vacation in Nags Head, and everything about it was impeccable. Not only did Chef Virginia feed us a seafood feast of tuna tartar, shrimp skewers, and scallops with mushroom risotto, but she also decorated the dining table with a beautiful autumn setup.
She also accommodated the picky teenagers in the house with their own entrees of a delicious chicken entree and mac & cheese.
They were extremely professional and took all the necessary precautions during this time of COVID. They wore masks the whole time and cleaned & sanitized everything they touched. They also packaged our leftovers for us, including the delicious butter rum cake.
I highly recommend you give them a try for at least one night of your beach vacation. It's a far better alternative than dining in a restaurant or doing take-out, and it was nice to have a break from cooking every night at the beach house! I will definitely hire them at least one night during future...
