This was a place with pros and cons. The food was outstanding. I had drunken noodles and I tried someone's pad Thai. Both were excellent. We ordered medium heat and it was very spicy. I like that, but the other person didn't expect so much heat. I ordered online and we took the food back to our airbnb. I ordered at 7:15 and was told it would be an hour wait. That was fine. I arrived around 8pm. There were people waiting inside for take out orders that were obviously unhappy. They said their orders were long overdue and had been waiting for up to an hour. The restaurant had stopped taking seated diners, so the kitchen was working only on take out orders still to be processed and I still didn't get my order until 30 minutes after the due time of 1 hour from order. So it took 90 minutes from order to food. Others had a longer wait. One person who had eaten at the restaurant said he had to wait over an hour for his food after ordering. So it wasn't just take out orders that were very slow. The staff said they tried to cut off online orders at 6:30, but obviously, that didn't work. They really need to fix that. I don't know if I'd come back even though the food was great. The unreliable and long time estimates put me off. I hope for their sake that this was just a one off night, because if it becomes the norm, they'll...

My wife and I are so happy that the Thai Room continues producing excellent food for visitors to the Outer Banks. At our most recent visit, I once again ordered a native hot dish. Anyone who loves hot food knows that each bite has a cumulative effect. Shortly after I commenced dining on my "spicy" dish, my lips fell off my face, I snorted fire, and I cried those wonderful tears of joy. The endorphins poured from my brain and surged throughout my entire body. I would have it no other way. As soon as I can get back to the Outer Banks, I will return to the Thai Room for another taste bud spa treatment. Thank you, Thai Room! It blew our minds to learn that Thai Room has been on the Outer Banks for something on the order of 35 years. We only discovered it in Spring 2020. But we've since been back for a second taste adventure. This Thai food is as good as any we have ever had. My family members had green and red curried noodle dishes, and I had the basil fried rice with chicken. Native hot. If you're like me, you like to cry tears of joy while eating good spicy foods. But let me be clear that the dishes at Thai Room are nuanced and complex on the palate, with the heat adding to the sophistication of...
Read moreWe make it a point to eat at this restaurant during every visit to obx. Location is great. Food is amazing and the service is great. They have live music for dinner and it's a long wait for a table especially if it's a weekend. There is an hour wait even if you take it to go, but still worth it. Highly recommended!
EDIT:
Visited again during our most recent trip and this time decided to eat in. We travelled after labor day, towards the end of the tourist season. There was hardly any rush, but still waited around twenty minutes for someone to talk to us and get us seated. I had to finally call them on their phone number to get someone who finally got us seated. Service was below par. Server took our order, told us he'd be back soon with some paper n crayon to keep the little one engaged. The next we saw him was when he came with the soup n entree all together, served it n went his way. We were served our drinks n the kids drink came along with the entrees, that too after multiple reminders. There were some issues with one of the entrees, they took it off the check. But overall the experience was really bad. We looked forward to eating here on every visit, but not anymore! Changing review from five star down...
