A follow up note from my TripAdvisor review concerning the shady business practices of the Thunderbird Motel in Las Vegas. It’s rare that I’d ever write a complaint review, rarer still that I’d write a follow up. The bar is just so low these days….. as long as you expect nothing from a business or vendor, I guess you’ll never be disappointed when you receive nothing. In this case we got less than nothing. We checked into the Thunderbird on Friday 2/22 for a 2-night stay. We weren’t thrilled with the place so we asked for permission to leave on Saturday. Permission was granted and we were told the 2nd night could/would be refunded, we booked a great room on the Strip for Saturday night. I watched my CC statement for the refund, but it never came. I called and emailed, their response was: ‘We looked into your inquiry and your reservation was made under a special promotion which was nonrefundable, therefore even if checking out early- you are not entitled for any refund for the stay. Sorry for the inconvenience.’
I love that comment, sorry for the inconvenience. When you’re told by staff that it’s okay to leave, you will be refunded, and then you are not refunded, it’s not an inconvenience, it is a swindle. The right thing to do by management would have been to refund the night and please the customer, and then educate your staff so it doesn’t happen again. But, they haven’t the slightest interest in doing the right thing. I understand after the fact that there is fine print, but your staff misinformed us and so it cost us an extra $100 for a night that were not even there. Enjoy it, I hope you choke on it.
Travelers, please beware of this business, if you have any issue you will certainly be burned. What I want to know is, who is giving this place more than 1 star? You have hundreds of options, do not choose this place! Another follow up, 3/9:. Management keeps throwing in my face, fine print, fine print, no refund. When I come to the counter unaware of the fine print, and ask if I can leave a day early with refund, and the answer is YES, would you assume, like I, that the business would in fact stand behind their staff and grant that refund? You won't convince me that what you did is right. I can see from other reviews that this is standard practice for your business. All I can do is try to convince others not to come...
Read more0/5 stars. Booked through an online travel agent for a single KING room. Got there, checked in, the front desk confirmed that we got a single KING. We got to the room and actually received a single QUEEN room. Not a big deal so we stay, and at checkout a couple days later, we bring it to their attention that we recieved a single QUEEN and not the KING that we were told to have. So we simply ask to be refunded the difference. The person at the front desk tell us that the rates are the same for a single QUEEN and single KING, and that is says so online (a single queen was not even a choice online). She also says that the card used was initially declined (so they cancelled the reservation) and then later was accepted?!?! So when this happens they cancelled our reservation, filled in with other people's reservations, and then re-reserved us for a lesser unit?!?! That doesn't make sense when the exact same card was used once, supposedly "rejected", and then accepted a couple hours later.
The hotel room itself is nothing fancy and the pictures online are very doctored to make it look nicer than it is. It's a motel that was obviously bought out and remodeled. I don't have many gripes about the room itself, just know that what you see online is not what it is necessarily like in the pictures.
After our stay and experience, I would not stay there again, and given the management of our reservation... will advise other guests in the Vegas area to not stay there either. It's not very good management to have a guest believe that they booked for a KING suite, and give them a lesser unit without even telling them and charging the same price for the lesser unit. If I could give 0/5 stars, I would.
Too long; didn't read: Booked, and was confirmed for a KING room. Got to the room and was given a QUEEN room. Front desk said that they would not reimburse us any difference in the room because there is not a price difference for a QUEEN vs KING room. And that our card was initially "declined", then accepted, and this caused them to book other guests for the KING and gave...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend stayed here for two nights in April and while we loved the area for all the bars and food I'll never stay here again. The room wasn't bad. Comparable to any other cheap motel. Not a lot about it I would consider "boutique". No fridge or microwave in the room which was a real pain. I literally can't remember the last time I stayed in a motel that didn't have a fridge in the room.
One of the main reasons we booked this place was the onsite "Saloon". It's closed. Permanently. Still on their website though.
Anyways, the fun part is what it cost me. I booked through one of the cheap providers on Google so I VERY CAREFULLY kept an eye out for extra charges. $38 a night room came with $44 worth of taxes and fees which is expected. It was only AFTER I paid and got my receipt from "TrivagoDeals" that I saw a mention of possible extra charges by the hotel in fine print at the bottom. I assumed that referenced late checkout charges or other add-ons since I had already paid $44 in taxes and fees. Sure enough, when I went to check in the hotel itself charged me another $38.42 in resort fees or some nonsense. Couldn't really argue though since I got the feeling my chance of getting a refund would be 50/50 at best. Reading other reviews I guess I should feel lucky I got my deposit back.
Live and learn. I won't be staying here again and neither should you.
Edited to respond to the smartass response from the owner: Apparently your reading comprehension isn't that great. The first mention of extra fees was on the receipt I got from TrivagoDeals AFTER I paid for the room. I just tried to go through the same booking process to grab screenshots and guess what, no TrivagoDeals option exists now. That tells me something. Either way, the motel is far from "boutique" and the onsite bar you advertise is closed permanently and charging people extra fees at checkin is shady at best. I notice you didn't respond to any of those issues. People don't have to go just by what I'm saying though. Your ratings and responses to them...
