We stayed here 14 years ago for our honeymoon and for our anniversary we were able to go back to the same room and it was so great! Their tubs fit 2 adults side by side and fill with the hot spring water. The hot springs are maybe a 90 second walk away. You don’t have to drive. They have free hot cocoa, coffee and tea in the lobby. The front desk receptionist on my day was Tracy and she went above and beyond for us and did it just to be kind, not even for tips. She helped us get some food for dinner when my husband became ill, she brought us a bottle opener to open our sparkling cider for our anniversary, and just was so kind and was there for us via text if we needed anything!! It did get a little chilly in our room and I found out the next morning they have small heaters you can borrow, we just didn’t know about so if you go in the winter, ask for one if you run cold! It’s a small quaint hotel. No elevator for the upstairs rooms but it’s not a bad walk. It’s close to some restaurants but we didn’t explore much. I can’t wait to visit again! Everyone we spoke to was so kind and it was nice to snag hot cocoa on the way to the hot pools or when we went outside! I added a few photos. The one outdoor photo showing the black bridge is the walk to the lava hot springs. They’re right past that bridge. The photo facing the other way is the Main Street. My silly husband posed in the tub to show you how big it really is. We shared pics of our room (448 upstairs in the main building). The lobby and small snacks to buy and mineral baths you can purchase to elevate your soak in the tub in your room. And a photo of the hotel from the outside. Well worth the visit and well priced rooms.

Great location, just a two minute stroll to the bathhouse and right by a warm restaurant with live music in the evening (we visited on a Friday night). Kind service. As a solo traveler, we appreciated the phone call the morning of our reservation asking when to expect us at the hotel to check-in. Only service improvement request is the coffee is very weak, really just water. I tried it myself and heard comments from other guests too. I went with tea instead. There's also a cute, functional retro vending machine for soda and we appreciate the 24hr access to make your own hot tea. Rooms are alright! Mattresses were comfortable and the shades really effectively block out light for a good night's sleep. Major issue with our shower and sink in room 116 - temperatures went between frigid cold or scalding hot, and occasionally lukewarm. The real issue was you couldn't choose the temperature either, the water just changed temperatures without warning. Especially because the shower is very small (no escaping the water!) I would be wary of letting a child shower in there for fear they might be burned. For our one night stay, I made do and my aunt used the local bathhouse showers instead.

Stayed here for one night for our anniversary. We chose the room with a private hot tub on the patio. The room was clean and nice looking. There are two queen beds, so more than just two people could stay. The hot tub outside doesn't have working jets and the water is pulled from the springs. We had to turn down the flow of water for a little while before getting in because it was so hot.. so if you stay in this room, we recommend checking the water as soon as you check in or shortly after and turn it down as needed so that when you go to get in, it will be a temperature that you are ready for. Overall, our stay was amazing. Food places and the hot springs are a VERY short walk away. The receptionist at check in was nice and helpful. When I called to make a reservation, they were informative which is the reason I went for the outdoor hot tub room instead of any of the other rooms. The room was great, not anything special, but exactly what we wanted and needed. The hot tub was the best part for sure. Would recommend getting this room anytime of the year for any occasion.

I had been trying to get a room for an entire year to use a $250 gift certificate I had been given. The hotel had fluctuating prices, and at one point were almost $400 per room. They also require a minimum two night stay. When the gift certificate was about to expire, I finally worked with the manager who was very nice and agreed to extend the gift certificate for 3 months and also agreed to just one night. The price was low enough by then that I said I would stay two nights and pay the difference which would have been an additional $120. The catch was I would have to switch rooms for the 2nd night and was told the second room would be smaller, only one bed, no deep tub and was then told it would cost more than the "luxury" room I was going to stay in for the first night. I called and cancelled the 2nd night and my daughter and I just stayed one night.

We arrived around 8:00 pm as we drove after work and were coming from out of state. Again, the front desk person was very nice. But when we got to the room, I found it was just an old motel. Long string of rooms with outside entrance; it was not a room in the "home hotel" part of the property. For nearly $200, the room was simply gross. It smells like cigarettes, is small with 2 chairs in the room that were stained with what looked like oil, chipped paint all over the walls. The bedding was old and not clean. There were fake nails all over on the side of the bed indicating the room had not been cleaned or vacuumed. The beds are old and uncomfortable and the walls were paper thin. We listed to a family with a young child that cried all the time and then you could hear the dad screaming at the child and occassionally spanking the child. So no sleep.

The deep tub in the room was nice when filled with hot springs water. There is a hot tub on the property that fills with hot springs water also. No jets of course because of the minerals. We liked the hot tub however until we saw it in the daylight. It was filthy and the grounds around it were too. There were cigarettes left all around the tub on the chairs as well as white claw cans thrown around. That isn't the hotels fault that those things were there - that's because of dirty guests, but it is their responsibility to clean up.

The hotel put a hold of $150 on my credit card for "incidentals". . Keep in mind I had over $60 left on my gift certificate, but was still charged the $150. The next day when we checked out, I gave the fingernails to the front desk person and told them they really needed to clean that room. I was assured they would clean it. They said they would release the hold of $150, but they didn't. That was at 11:00 on Saturday morning, a short 15 hours after I checked in. On Tuesday, I finally called my bank and the bank took the hold off.

Again, the people who work there are very nice. But the hotel charges like it's a Ritz.

I was celebrating my daughter's birthday and we always go out of town together for some kind of fun adventure with just us; no kids, no spouses, etc. So we were expecting a decent room, especially based on the price. However, the Home Hotel was the dirtiest, most run down place I have ever stayed. Had I been paying for the room rather than using a gift certificate, I would have demanded a refund and moved. It was really disgusting. The owners really need to upgrade the rooms and clean the place up. In the daylight, the rooms and the grounds looked even worse.

I guess as long as people are willing to keep booking this place, they have no reason to clean it up. But I will never stay in this...

I spent one night at the Home Hotel recently with my boyfriend. It was meant to be a sort of romantic getaway. My general impression was that the staff was amazing, but the room I stayed in wasn't that great.

Our room was directly on the main street of Lava Hot Springs (door and window facing the street and accessed via the sidewalk). I'm sure the town is really safe, but I really didn't like leaving my computer and camera in the room, especially because the deadbolt didn't work on my door. The room was also pretty rundown. The only thing that really matched the pictures was the headboard and wall color. We got a room with a large tub, but the tub wasn't very inviting and we didn't end up using it. The laminate of the tub was coming up and the tile surrounding the tub was cracked and dirty looking. Don't get me wrong, the shower worked great, drained perfectly and had solid water pressure. The room just seemed a little rundown, especially compared to the pictures.

Even though we didn't use the tub in the room, we did use the outdoor tub. That was a really nice part of the hotel. The outdoor tub is near the river and is really nice and warm. It's surrounded by picnic benches and a really nice porch. I wish there would have been a couple of extra towels in the room, some to use for showering and some to use for going to the outdoor tub.

The hotel is also in a great location, just a 1-2 min walk from the public hot springs. My boyfriend and I both had massages at the public hot springs and it was nice to walk just a couple minutes back to our room. One other great thing about the hotel is that they have free tea and coffee in the front office all the time and it is pretty good coffee.

I would recommend this hotel to someone visiting Lava Hot Springs (and I would stay here again), because of the great staff, convenient location, and nice outdoor tub. I would just say that the rooms are a little...

BED BUGS!!! What a horrible experience. Walking in I was not greeted but told "you need to hold on im on the phone" in a pretty rude tone of voice. Upon entering the room everything looked fine to myself and my fiance and we unloaded our bags and got settled for a few minutes got a change of clothes and went out on the town belt before we did our ac unit was stomped on or something and made a very loud noise. When we arrived back to the room with our dinner and some groceries along with new clothing that we had sat on the bed out of the bags we pulled away the covers to find a the remnants of a bed bug and also a blood stain in the sheets ( our total time in the room was about 25 minutes at this point) we tried calling the manager and owner and got an answer eventually and we asked for a refund as we will not stay where bed bugs are a thing and somebody's blood has been on the sheets and as a precaution we took the room keys and locked the door so we would not get scammed into paying for a room we did not sleep in ( we thankfully got much nicer and more spacious room at another location for less than a quarter of the price) the lady on the phone seemed like she was going to try to make us pay anyway and told us to "just leave the keys there" . While we talked with some locals they told us that we wouldn't likely be able to get a refund because the manager was not going to show up until well after checkout so we would be billed for the room. We had to throw away our groceries and dinner as we had to play it safe incase bugs or their eggs may have gotten on everything. Over all just a horrible experience and would highly recommend not staying at this place. also way way too expensive for the...
