This review is based on my interactions with the site manager, who cancelled my reservation, so does not address the motel itself.||A few days before my reservation date, I emailed the San Dune to ask if I could leave my bag with them, as I would be arriving by bus in Manzanita several hours before the 4 p.m. check-in. Angela, the manager, wrote to say no. I was quite surprised; in many years of traveling in many states, though I’ve always asked rather than assuming I could store a bag, the answer has always been yes. I wrote back to say that I was disappointed, and also concerned about security at the motel, if they thought a bag could be stolen out of the office. I also said I would post a review describing this situation (so that no one else would be caught by surprise, as I was). Angela wrote that they are very small and have never allowed bag storage, and that they are very clear on their policy of no early arrivals. (To me that meant no early check-ins, but I now understand it means something different to them.) Unfortunately, she went on to an unexpected attack, calling my “threat” of a review “retaliation” and telling me I could cancel and get a refund, and then “We don't cater to mean people and do not need your business.” As a customer, I’ve never had any kind of business say anything so harsh and hurtful.||Awake during the night, I realized I should not have responded by email, a faulty medium often open to misinterpretation, but should have phoned to work something out, or waited to discuss my disappointment in person. While I was a little leery of staying somewhere so hostile to a customer, I try to work out interpersonal problems rather than just dismissing “problem” people outright. So I decided I would write an apology for not calling directly, but I did not have time to do so before work. When my workday ended, I checked my voicemail and had a message from Angela saying she had cancelled my reservation, and Expedia would try to find me another lodging. Of course as it was quite last-minute, Expedia could only find a few places in Manzanita or Cannon Beach, all significantly pricier. Thus, I had to cancel my trip. ||A private business is permitted to refuse service to a customer, if the reason is about behavior (as this was) rather than illegal discrimination based on membership in a protected class. At this point I just want to advise potential customers that this motel may not be the most welcoming place; it’s not a good option if you are travelling car-free or do not want to leave luggage in a car; the 4 p.m. check-in has no flexibility; and use caution and a high level of sensitivity if you need to bring up any concerns...
Read moreI was absolutely disguested! The staff did their best to help compensate. Honestly I'd rather have not been so grossed out. There was something dripping off the wall and the bathroom was run down. Fine, ok, we didn't care that much. But we get back from dinner, shower and, start to wind down. We pull the sheet up to get to the comforter and the ONE thing I didn't want to see. Blood specks and a pee stain. I mean food stain ok fine, hell, I would rather see a roach! I was so grossed out. My husband and I slept with our towels as blankets. The kind lady at the front desk came in the room the next morning to look, she gave us a refund. But God, if pay double not to see what I did. They seemed kind and she told me it never happens. I would hope not. REALLY THE 2 THINGS I HOPE TO NEVER SEE IN A HOTEL IS BLOOD PEE...
Read moreWe visit Manzanita on a regular basis and have had excellent experiences in the past , but this trip fell way short. First off if you like a comfortable cozy bed THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. The bed was hard as plywood. That was the worst nights rest I ever have had…. Then of coarse we get a 150$ charge for my service dog in a SO CALLED PET FRENDLY HOTEL! I think that they our counting on screwing people on there animals. The heater in the room was interesting, it’s a walmmart special they stuffed in a homemade box under the Walmart refrigerator. It’s so loud at night you can’t sleep….. guess that’s why they leave ear plugs on the counter. The whole place is very low budget. I have never written a negative review before this one as we travel continually. Honestly not worth the money even though there a...
