It was a rainy night when we visited this restaurant. We had passed it many times but had never eaten there. Because we were on one of our first short trips away from home since the outbreak of Covid. We decided to try it out. As we walked up we were anticipating a memorable meal because we had read such great reviews of this long time Manzanita eatery. We sat outside because we are still not comfortable inside restaurants. It was well set up and our waiter was both helpful and friendly. An extra fire pit was even lit to make us a bit more comfortable. After some discussion my wife ordered the steak and I ordered the cod with asparagus risotto. The waiter recommended that for an extra $13 I add the Dungeness crab to my cod. Thank goodness I did because otherwise the dish would have been very bland. There was hardly any risotto with only a couple of small pieces of asparagus. Everything was one colour - not an attractive plate. My wife's steak was very tough and had to be sent back to be cooked a little more in the hopes that she would be able to cut it. That and the dirty brown mashed potatoes were all that was on the plate making a very unattractive looking meal. However, the mashed potatoes tasted good and the steak was acceptable after it was returned to the table. . We have eaten at many restaurants around the world and expect that in a restaurant of this quality food would come to the table nicely presented. This was not the case. Adding a little garnish and colour to the plates would have made the food look more appetising. The cod was actually a good dish if it had a bit more risotto but the steak was a visual and flavour flop. We were very disappointed and we were in an out in less than an hour. Manzanita needs a bistro that serves excellent, reasonably priced meals Based on our food last night this is not such a place and I would not recommend...
Read moreVery mixed… we made reservations and were really looking forward to dinner on our anniversary. There are no cocktails available despite many beautiful photos they’ve posted on their own website. Wine and beer yes. When we inquired the waiter abruptly stated no. The website online menu isn’t quite current. Some entrees and many desserts in their photos are no longer available. There were only two desserts available. The main entree cod with risotto was delicious. Cod seemed poached definitely no sear as described. When we had asked the male waiter about two of the items on the menu he said read the menu I wrote it myself. Wow. The portions were generous. Caesar chopped up salad nothing special. Wine and beer good reasonably priced. Ambience is cozy lots of candles though ours was never lit.
Service was the worst even though there were only four diners there counting the two of us as it was early. It was abrupt, not competent, definitely not welcoming. We were the first to arrive yet seated at the worst cramped table in the corner. We asked politely yet they refused to move us to another table for two. The young lady said no that tables are assigned. Shortly another couple came in and got a better seat. Weird. The woman didn’t appear to be trained at all nor seem to care. The male waiter had attitude throughout no idea why -I swear we didn’t run over his cat. Each of them separately came from behind and reached across very near my face without saying a word to fill the water glasses. Honestly it was like Denny’s service with a new employee.
It’s too bad I really wanted to love this place but don’t for many reasons. We left wondering what happened maybe new owners, staff...
Read moreIf I could give this place 0 stars, I would. It was my stepdads birthday and we came here to celebrate. I went to order a beer, and the very rude waiter refused to serve me because he said I was already under the influence. I barely drink at all and hadn’t even had a drink all day. I flew into Portland that same day and had not slept the night before, so I was exhausted. I took a sleeping pill at noon to sleep on the 6 hour flight, so maybe I was a little groggy, but I was completely sober and it was already 8:30pm by the time we got to the restaurant. I explained that to the server but he still refused to serve me a beer. Then, he tells us we need to hurry and order because the kitchen closes in 5 minutes. He was the rudest sever I’ve ever had in my life, so we left. We didn’t get to have a birthday dinner for my stepdad because of this. We ended up having to cook at 10pm. Also, we went outside to take a picture of all of us together, and I was told to wait and take it later since the kitchen was closing soon. Taking a selfie only takes about 10 seconds so I didn’t really understand the issue with that. We told the manager or owner (not sure which one) why were leaving, and she didn’t even apologize. If you’re looking to be treated rudely, come and dine here. If you’re looking for a great dining experience, this would be the LAST place I...
