I booked 3 nights in mid-Sept; fled in horror after 2nd night. The Spindrift isnât an ordinary crummy motel: itâs toxic. One wonders if the Tillamook County health inspectors ever investigate this place; they should. I knew the accommodation would be modest; I wasnât expecting unbearable. I rented a 2-room unit; the first room, on the parking lot side, smelled strongly of harsh chemical cleaners. Although the staff left windows open, the room never airs out; the stench never goes away. If you have respiratory issues, donât stay here. And the stench will go home with you, too. Whatever toxic chemical the Spindrift uses, it permeates all fabric â including suitcase lining, all clothes, all totes. Even some of my electronics reeked of this motel room for several days after I left. My clothing had to be washed 3 or 4 times before the invasive Spindrift stink finally got eradicated. The place is run by malevolent incompetents: one of the maids flipped me off with a Q-Anon hand signal. These people must hate their guests, which explains why everything about Spindrift is so terrible. Beds are old & unsupportive; not quite as hard as rocks, yet not anything a tired body can sink into. Walls are thin; you will hear loud guests next door. Rooms open onto shared courtyard, but motel owner is TOO CHEAP to place chairs outside each guest door. Entire courtyard had 2 Adirondacks in the center, and that was all. Thereâs no exhaust fan in bathroom, so ceiling has turned brown in the middle; no heat in bathroom. Lazy maids stocked cabinet with drinkware & utensils, yet there were NO plates or bowls. 3 blocks from the ocean, yet location isnât everything. Everything about Spindrift Inn was cut-corners disgusting. Oh, and although most cars come & go from the motel parking lot, there were 2 sinister vans that never budged. Walking near one as I took a short cut stroll across the lot, a dog barked from inside one of them. Why is there a dog inside a van with covered windows rolled-up? Because people are living inside those vans, and they apparently do so with the complicity of Spindrift Inn owners & managers. This motel should be condemned. Management ignored my complaints; did not offer to chip in for water bill for the massive amounts of laundry I had to do after a mere 2 nights in this dump. A...
Read moreWe have stayed at the Spindrift in the past and had good experiences. It's a basic, convenient, well-located spot. I love the nice touches like DVDs and games to borrow in the lobby. We stayed in room #15, which includes a basic kitchen along with queen beds and a hide-a-bed. The room was mostly clean, with the exception of the sheets on both the master bed and the sofa bed. (Both had hairs on them and were gritty.) Not sure if this means they weren't changed or if the wash didn't do the trick. There was a broken lamp in the bedroom. Great, spacious bathroom with ample supplies.||However, the biggest issue with our stay was the noise. Music pulsed from the next door restaurant's kitchen from 11:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. The last time we stayed in this room--years ago--the music could be barely heard and we were told then that there was nothing to be done. This time the noise was constant and audible in every room. We turned up the TV volume to high to watch our movie, but still could hear it. It did motivate us to go out more, but put a definite pall over an otherwise nice stay. Relaxing in the room with a board game or book was not an option with the pumping bass.||Also I should mention that our check-in was not as smooth as hoped. The key was not in the lockbox. And I got no response from the phone number listed on the locked lobby door for at least 30 minutes. When the innkeeper arrived he was apologetic and friendly, but still that was a long 30 minutes wondering if we had a place to stay that night. It started out our stay--and the other couple who was waiting with us--on...
Read moreGreat location. Wish I could say more. I was called earlier in the day asking for me to pay for pets. We didn't travel with pets, and I let the gentleman know it was just 2 adults and one child. He said there would be a charge for my child and then quickly took that back. Not sure if he was joking or what...Went about my day. We arrived after staff hours and was greeted with the most horrible smell (room 5). It was a mixture of fish & sewage. Went to put our perishables in the fridge and that was the ultimate oder source. It was like rotten fish. I'm quite allergic to seafood, so this was not ideal in any aspect.
I had booked through air bnb and so I messaged the owner through the app. No response. Called and left a voice mail. No response. I ended up using the ring bell at the front door. The housekeeper was across the street and came right over. (He's the only reason this review is getting any stars) He quickly tried to solve our problem by removing the fridge & giving us room spray-and said he would also message the manager.
We walked to the local grocery store down the street and by the time we came back we weren't convinced that the spray did any thing. It was now sewage, rotten fish, & cinnamon. We waited for a few hours for the manager to respond before spending the next few hours trying to find a place to stay. Ended up at a motel 6 about an hour away (only thing available in a 2 hour radius) and paid $350 on top of what we spent at this facility.
No follow up from the manager. Pretty disappointed. Take note and DO...
