I’ve been waiting to do this review because I had conflicting feelings about it. I wanted to make sure I made an honest review not an emotional one.
So here is my honest opinion… we stayed here for 10 days. My family ended up with a handicap room. (No one in my family is handicapped) So we had more space for the 5 of us. We had a switch lever to open the door. Both bathrooms were handicapped accessible. The second room is behind the actual door when it opens. At first we thought we only had a single bedroom. Once the door shut we found it. Both rooms were spacious. The couch had a pull out bed and that is where our children slept every night. So there was plenty of room for everyone to sleep. We had a brand new washer and dryer in our room. Each room had its own beach towels and cooler to take things around the island. So convenient. We had a small storage space to put food items. A full size kitchen with most kitchen utensils and pots and pans. We were able to call the office and check out items like an air fryer for free. We rented beach umbrellas, 2 for $10 for 7 days.
We had tiny ants in our room. They crawled on everything and were everywhere. We did our best to not leave anything out on the counters to prevent more coming.
I called 2xs before our arrival to ask questions and both times got someone different-both horribly rude! We weren’t expecting much the day we checked in, but the lady who checked us in and out was very nice.
Our two boys got sick (with the flu nothing crazy) while on our trip and my MIL went to ask the office if we can have our sheets and towels washed and the room cleaned to help with sanitation. The lady yelled at her and was in her face smacking her hands in her face. My MIL told her that she doesn’t have to yell at her like that especially since she’s just asking a question about sheets and towels. You are given 3 washer pods and 3 dryer sheets. My MIL asked why we should waste our washer pods on the typical cleaning service that should be provided. After you use the 3 of each you have to pay for more and my MIL didn’t think that was right on our end. They did come clean our room and give us fresh towels and sheets. It did help with the recovery of our boys.
The location is nice it’s close to the main area in town. If you walk by the pool there is a trail that leads to the ocean. We got up the first few mornings and walked down to the ocean and played with the rocks. The location of our resort was where the run off is. So this beach you couldn’t play in because you will get hurt by rocks and sea urchins. So we were careful when we walked on the beach.
Overall… nice location, spacious room and some amenities. The employees mostly rude, somewhat helpful. Would I stay here again? Only if it was cheaper than other places in the area. No we wouldn’t stay...
Read moreI've got mixed feelings on Maui Schooner. We stayed for a week. It was nice to have your own kitchen, and the price was right, but I wish I had splurged more for a better place to stay while on vacation.
Bedroom: The bedroom is relatively small, and located towards the front of the building where people are walking past. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything going on in the neighbors rooms. This also includes hearing the road and garbage truck that clears trash every morning.
Bed: 0 stars. We woke up every day with stiff necks. It was squeaky, and kinda taco shaped.
Bathroom: Yikes. A little mold never hurt anyone. The shower is tiny with the shower located just right to hit your chest if you're average height. You will not be able to enter the shower if you're over 6'5". My shoulders were simultaneously touching the curtain and the opposing wall. Bending over to wash your legs will result in a handrail or a shower knob hitting you right in the butt. The toilet was tilted as it sat on the floor.
Kitchen: This was great. Stocked enough with pots, pans, cooking utensils and other cookware available on request. Very nice for cooking hot breakfasts. Grills near the pool are available for communal use.
Deck/Living: Nice view of courtyard/pool/ocean. Eating area was fine. Never used TV, but they had movies to rent from the office.
Pool/Hot tub: These were fairly busy and well cared for. Outdoor shower and foot washing station for cleaning off sand are available.
Beach: The beach is very close and we walked there several times. It's not a very nice beach, lots of rocks and trash and such.
Other amenities that were unexpectedly nice: Every room has beach chairs and washer and dryer. They rent out beach umbrellas for $10/wk. They don't offer a late checkout, but they have an indoor shower in the pool house that you must reserve a time for (the staff neglected to help us reserve a time and this caused conflicts). They understand everyone wants to freshen up before evening flights back to the mainland. Parking pass is provided and lots of spots available.
The location in Kehei is really nice and central to lots of things...

Schade!

Our stay at the Maui Schooner lasted 6 days.
The resort could potentially be very good. However, there is one aspect that is absolutely unacceptable if you want to relax a bit.
First, the positives: The resort is really beautiful and well-maintained, though it is relatively small compared to other resorts in the area. The pool is heated to 30 degrees, and the hot tub to 37 degrees. Everything is super clean and relatively new. The staff at the reception is very friendly and helpful.
However, the term "resort" is not really accurate. Ultimately, it's more like an Airbnb or a timeshare. This brings us to the negative points. If you book through Expedia, you will receive spam emails from the timesharing company even before your arrival, asking if you want to invest. That's a big no-no! What about data privacy?
The apartments or rooms you rent are spacious and include everything you need: a washer and dryer, a fully equipped kitchen, a bed and sofa bed, lounge chairs, and coolers.
Despite the modern air conditioning, the rooms smell musty and damp... like a basement apartment in the summer. But the worst for us was the constant noise. Either from the pool, despite rules posted everywhere against jumping or aggressive play, or at night when you couldn't sleep. I've never slept so poorly on vacation. There was constant furniture moving from above, below, or the sides, as if the neighbors were constantly assembling IKEA cabinets. We stayed in building B, which has three floors. The problem is that all the rooms open onto the hallway, and despite signs everywhere that people are sleeping, you can hear everything like at a train station.
The beach looks nice from the balcony but is not really suitable for swimming. At the reception (open from 8 AM to 6 PM), you can borrow beach equipment, movies, etc.
This is not a resort! It is an Airbnb where you also have to take out your own trash and sweep after...
