Epic Hawaiian Plate Lunch at Da Kitchen — massive portions, bold flavors, zero regrets!
Summary of Experience: My partner and I dropped in at Da Kitchen in Kihei for lunch, craving something local and hearty. We each went for combo/mixed-plate style – I ordered the Chicken Katsu + Kalua Pork combo; my partner got the Mixed Plate (teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, chicken katsu, breaded mahi mahi). The restaurant was clean, service friendly, atmosphere relaxed. The food: generous (seriously), full of flavor, a great sampler of Hawaiian classics all in one meal.
Overall Opinion & Recommendation: If you’re anywhere near Kihei and want to dive into Hawaiian comfort food, Da Kitchen is absolutely worth your lunch hour (or dinner, for that matter). The food hits the sweet spot between comforting and exciting. The katsu was crispy in all the right ways, the kalua pork tender, smoky, perfect balance of salt without being overwhelming. The mixed plate — you get a little something from each favorite: mahi-mahi brought crisp fish flavor, the teriyaki meats offered sweet/umami uplift, and the chicken katsu brought that crunchy texture. Add rice, macaroni salad etc., and you’ve got a feast. Portions are huge — you might end up taking home leftovers. The vibe: casual Hawaiian plate lunch, no pretenses, just solid local eats. Clean space, good service makes it even better.
Recommendation: Highly recommend. Go if you want to try multiple Hawaiian classics in one go, especially if you’re hungry. It’s ideal for sharing, sampling, or just if you want something filling and tasty without fancy fuss. If I come back, I’ll continue trying more combos/mixed plates—this is the kind of spot you visit not just once, but...
Read moreGreat eatery for Hawaiian food with good portions! Plenty of parking bc it’s almost at the corner of the plaza and the sign is hard to find. Small seating area but you can eat outside too.
It was hard deciding what to eat. Fried spam musubi- nice panko crunch and even though spam is a thin slice, it’s still salty and flavorful enough for the surrounding rice. They give you a dipping sauce for the musubi and cut it into 4 pieces. Worth the try!
Kalbi fried noodles- looks like garlic noodles but has 1 thin slice of LA- style cut galbi and little bits of kalbi cut into the noodles. It’s flavorful but plain and just has kalbi in it. Kids liked it.
The mixed plate - fish katsu, katsu, chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki & potato Mac salad and rice. Loaded plate with a good portion of katsu, one large slice of beef teriyaki and 1 small tender teriyaki chicken. The fish katsu crumbled but it had a good crunch and was good. The katsu was fine and came with a sauce. The beef teriyaki was tender as was the chicken thigh. It was so tender but lacked the teriyaki flavor but think there was dipping sauce. The potato Mac salad was great! No too mushy or bland but good!
We also got the crab Mac and cheese that comes in like a medium fro-yo cup. That was yummy but prob better if it was hot. It has some melted cheese on top and imitation crab within. Had a nice flavor
Overall I would recommend coming here for good Hawaiian eats with good portions and flavor! I would get the plates for the variety...
