We had breakfast here a couple of mornings while we stayed at the Maui Coast Hotel.
We enjoyed the food here, and appreciated the large selection of breakfast options. They have options ranging from simple things like oatmeal bowls and fresh fruit, to omelettes, pancakes, and even steak or pork chops with eggs. Breakfast is a good price for Maui, but is higher than what you'd pay on the mainland. It's important to note that it was more reasonable here than several other restaurants on the island.
I have mixed feelings about the service. The system of ordering the meal at the counter and then having the food delivered to your table seems efficient, but it also seems to generate a lot of confusion for guests and also the staff. It also feels that they are anxious to keep the line moving, and it shows as they don't have patience for questions. Also note that they don't tell you when you are ordering that you have to go pick up your drinks from a different counter. Be sure to get your drinks quickly as the staff that works that spot does not have much patience for them sitting there.
On our first visit, we had our meal delivered quite fast to our table after placing the order. The food was very good. The second day, the order took a while to be brought out because the restaurant was much more busy. Weirdly, they didn't bring both of our meals out together even though they were placed together, and the server that brought out the 2nd meal had to go table to table to ask who had ordered the dish. Food was very good on the second day as well.
Make sure you look at the menu before you get in line, and also make sure you check the 6-8 posted signs showing all the specials, changes, etc. while you walk into the restaurant so you are ready to order when you reach the counter.
The Kihei Cafe was clean. There is a decent amount of space and tables. There isn't much decoration. It is a little dark inside the space, but not so dark that you can't see. The furniture was comfortable and seemed to be well maintained. The open air area near the street had a nice breeze. The courtyard area has a very nice selection of beautiful plants. It's obvious that this space was originally a bar that has been re-purposed into a restaurant. It would probably work much better if they redesigned the space and removed the old bar.
The restrooms weren't in the best condition, but by far not the worst ones we've ever seen. They feel tired, like most bar restrooms. They were dark as well, but were clean and they could use a refresh. They are also not in a bad location, but were a little hard to locate as the signage was obscured by another sign.
Note that they do add a service fee to checks that are paid for by a credit card. This fee is posted...
Read moreMy friends and I went to breakfast on 3/13/25. I had pancakes with coconut syrup and a cappuccino the food was good the coffee was passable. One friend had a breakfast roll and she said that it was okay nothing really special. Another friend ordered the Papaya Delight Bowl. We repeatedly had to ask for her order I was halfway through my pancake as was my friend with the breakfast roll when my other friends Papaya delight arrived. What came was oatmeal with fruit on top. My friend wasn't really paying attention and started to eat the food and then was stopped by a server or a manager who came and said that we did not pay for her breakfast. After further review of the bill we learned that she had ordered papaya delight and we indeed paid for the item. My friend forgot the name of the dish she ordered and after waiting so long, she accepted the delivered oatmeal. She was already about a third away into eating the oatmeal when the server returned to our table and took the oatmeal away from her and then gave her a papaya delight. The server then tried to collect more money from us saying that a delight cost more than the oatmeal. (Both items cost $10.95. ). I have never seen a server or a manager physically take something away from a patron and throw down another item in its place. It was a very unpleasant experience. The server was extremely rude at every point in the conversation. Needless to say we will...
Read moreMy fiancé wanted to take me somewhere for breakfast. Plus since I’ve been to the other two before might as well try out a location I haven’t been to yet. Plus this breakfast outing came as a surprise date. Since I had an early morning dentist appointment this morning & didn’t really have anything else planned for today. However, since we both were hungry & ready to eat. He found us the perfect solution. Kihei Caffe.
After leaving Kahului we drove to Kihei. Pulling up, I enjoyed all the greenery in the parking lot & next to the building. Judging from the full parking lot I could tell they were going to be busy inside too. It wasn’t too bad either, the line started at the door but went pretty fast. Plus it just gave you a few extra minutes to go over the menu so you already knew what to order when it’s your turn.
I ordered the BST Bagel (Bagel, 3 pieces of Applewood bacon, spinach, avocado, tomato, and cream cheese.) & an iced chai tea latte. While he ordered a the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs with an iced pog. Surprisingly our plates were dropped off at our table before our drinks were ready. Which was perfectly fine for me, I got to take some food pictures while George waited next to the drink station for our drinks.
Their food is definitely delicious & we both ate everything. So in the future I’d love to come back just to try something new. Any...
