This past weekend, I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in McDonough, Georgia while at a soccer tournament for my daughter's club soccer team. This tournament requires you to stay at designated hotels. This hotel was on the list which meant that they knew there would be a lot of people staying at their hotel. There were many teams staying there from our clubs as well as other clubs. In addition there were also several cheer squads who were part of a competition happening near by.
All this being said, I was very disappointed with my overall experience at the hotel. As a Marriott Rewards member I enjoy staying at your hotels and have always had a positive experience whether at a soccer tournament or on a family vacation until this past weekend.
Here is a list of what we, as a team, encountered during our stay:
•Rooms not being ready an hour after "check in" time. Also, extremely slow check-in. •A room being canceled that hadn't been canceled by the parent. •Room service could not give us enough towels for the people in our room. They told us numerous times they were not expecting so many people and did not have enough towels. When we called the front desk they told us we needed to come down and get them because they were short-staffed. •The dryer was broken which made it fairly impossible to wash uniforms and socks so they could be ready to wear the next day. •The "restaurant style" serving set up of the "free" breakfast was very inefficient. The first morning most had to wait for 45-50 minutes in line to order their food. This is not acceptable when teams are trying to get breakfast eaten before heading out to scheduled games. •They ran out of food at breakfast the first day. I only know this because I ran to the Super Target across the street to pick up some extra things and saw the manager there buying bananas! •When we checked in we were given tickets for breakfast. They ran out of these tickets also so some members of our team did not get tickets and this became an issue with every breakfast. •The food serving area was awarded a sanitation rating of an 88 in the latest inspection. That is not Marriott quality in my opinion. •The men's bathroom in the lobby had a broken toilet during our entire stay. •Lastly, and most disturbing, it was accidentally discovered that one of the members of our team had a room key that worked on...
Read moreI made a reservation for my mother and aunt to stay, but the reservation was in my name. I have done this numerous times. When my mother called the hotel to tell them she would be later arriving, the woman at the front desk was rude in explaining that I had to let them know she was checking in under my reservation. I messaged the hotel to inform them of my mother’s name and that she would be checking in. The hotel never messaged me back and told my mother when she checked in that they don’t use the messaging system. Why would Marriott put a message feature on the app if you don’t use it? My husband and I went to Italy this summer, and I messaged the hotel frequently with many questions. Despite the time difference, the hotel messaged me back promptly! When my mother and aunt arrived at this hotel, the man at the front desk was very rude when my mother wanted to go ahead and pay with cash. We all understand the need for a credit card for “incidentals,” but the guy informed my mother he was placing a $100 hold on her card which would be reversed in a few days. When she asked why, he finally lowered it to $20. Then he proceeded to make the statement that my mother must not travel much or check into hotels frequently. My mother called me upset about these comments, and I was furious!! My mother asked him exactly what damage he thought 70 year old women were going to do. The comment about “lack of experience” checking into a hotel is quite laughable as we take trips at least monthly. In fact, she and I are going to New York City in March. Whether it was her first or millionth time checking into a hotel there is NO need for such a comment. As a Marriott Gold member and Lifetime Silver Elite member, many of my accrued nights have involved taking my mother with me. I have never been insulted in such a manner. When I looked closer at the reviews of this hotel after this incident, I saw ours was not an isolated case of front desk rudeness. I expect way more from Marriott. I will continue to be a loyal Marriott customer, but I will never book this hotel again. Stay away from the rudeness and find another Marriott! The manager and Marriott International will be...
Read moreThe staff were nice and they obviously were training new staff members. The reason for the low score was the price they are charging for a room and the amenities they are temporarily not offering. I accept issues arise however they really need to let customers know before they book.
Things under construction due to a busted pipe and they are still several weeks out from completion.
Lobby area is cut off by half and they tried to block off the outside sitting area to the back of the building. At least it looked that way even though we found away to get to it. You just have to be cleaver on how to get back into the building. This was one of my draws to the property.
No breakfast it's grab and go meaning they pack you a brown bag of one muffin (asked what choice), a breakfast bar (no choice) , a piece of fruit (no choice), and a small juice (asked for choice). We also picked this hotel because they offer Starbucks. If I drink coffee I need a foo foo drink. My friend was find she could drink the Starbucks coffee they offered off to the side.
No pool, well they worked out a deal I guess. However, it across a very busy street in another hotel. Not a huge deal, but I did pick a hotel that said they had a pool do I could take a quick deep at night. Hotel staff when asked why no pool. Pump busted and it's another 3-4 months before completion.
Hotel was lovely.....TV though was annoying. You would be watching a program and the screen and sound goes blank. At first I thought it turned off on it's own. About 3 secs later it continues like normal.
The finally straw was out last night. We were woke up several times through out the night with the fire alarm going off. Once it went so long we thought we might need to leave. God forbid if there was a fire. Guests might not leave thinking it's just another false alarm. Hotel staff at check out said it's been doing this ever since they had the pipe bust and underconstruction.
I would highly suggest waiting for them to fix the issues before booking. Not worth 150.00 a night. There are other hotels in the same area you can choose from. It's not the staffs fault. They are just trying to...
