Location was pretty good. Vibe was cool. Room was clean and neat, but bathroom door did not close easily and had to be "slammed" shut (which was loud). Greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine. Very nice.||I booked a room for 4, but there were only 2 coffee pods (which really only yielded one cup of coffee). You had to purchase anything more than the two available. There were also only two glasses/cups for wine/coffee. Also, there was no complimentary coffee or water in the lobby. I was told they had a cafe, but it was in another building and it was $5 for a coffee.||Also, although the staff was friendly and helpful, much of it was canned scripts (lip service?). When we checked in after 8pm, we were told we could request a late checkout (1pm instead of 11am) and a golf cart to take us to the beach for free. But we had to request it at 8am. This was part of the resort fee.||So I set my alarm for 8am, went to the lobby in person to request both the late checkout and and the golf cart and was told they were fully booked and that we could NOT check out late and that the golf carts were out of service! Also, if the golf carts were available, they would not be able to take us to the beach club since it opens at 10am. But they said we had to check out at 11am.||The pool was also not available to swim in at night since it is set up for poolside dinner. So what did I pay a resort fee for? I had no amenities!||Now here's the kicker (BEWARE): The hotel arranged for a car to take me to the airport for $50. I sat in the lobby early and was told my car was "here." I was surprised since it was 15 minutes early.||They put my luggage into the car and as the driver was driving, he kept yelling in Spanish on his cell phone about having a client (me). He hit traffic, made a U-turn, then started driving back. I asked if I was going to make my flight and if we were still going to the airport. He pulled in front of a convention center and told me to get out and into another car waiting. OMG! They said they got confused and that the other driver was going to take me to the airport. We made my flight, but when I was getting out he showed me his ticker and it said $95!! I said "No way! It is supposed to be $50." He said they had nothing to do with the hotel and that he was a cab.||BEWARE! I refused to pay the $95. He called someone and said "OK." He charged my credit card $53. I think they scam passengers (tourist) into being scared and who end up paying out of fear of missing their flights. Crazy. I was really pissed at the hotel for allowing this to happen to me. I trusted their word. I almost ended up a victim of this scam. I had no amenities and paid $51 for a resort fee for one night.||In sum: I was excited at check-in but reflected on my less than 24-hour experience and realized it was like a bait and switch (no late checkout, no golf cart, no pool at night, only servings for 2 when I booked a room for 4, and the car to airport fiasco).||If none of this happened, I would have given the hotel a...
Read moreI have to admit, that I was also hesitant about our stay at The Plymouth after reading some negative Google reviews, however, my experience was really wonderful!
I was recommended The Plymouth by a friend. The hotel is definitely boutique and has a nice intimate feel, with a total of 4 floors. The lobby, pool and public areas are really aesthetic and cute. When we arrived, we were able to check in early. Our room was clean and tidy, with a steamer, a safe, a small mini fridge, and some slippers. (No robes, just to note for incoming guests! If I had done better research, I would have brought my own!) I would also advise a view of the pool vs. a balcony - I found that we hardly used our balcony at all!
We did dine at the Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar in the hotel, I would advise future guests to visit in the EVENING as that's when the restaurant has the best atmosphere. We visited during the afternoon as soon as we checked in and the experience was not the same. Also, I would recommend visiting for small bites and not a full meal, as it is a tad pricey in comparison to some other experiences in Miami.
The one inconvenient thing is that The Plymouth does not include any sort of breakfast unless it is pre-paid in advance to their partner restaurant, Orange Blossom, which is about a 5-minute walk from the hotel. If you are travelling with children, I would recommend pre-paying for breakfast for an easier time or buying some small breakfast items to eat in the room. (There is a CVS 5 minutes away as well!) We did not personally eat at Orange Blossom but did order some breakfast potatoes on our last day which was quite good! Additionally, you can easily get breakfast at surrounding restaurants & coffee shops such as Joe & The Juice, XO Espresso on Lincoln Road and other eateries. The hotel often offers a gratis item in the morning like a ginger shot or fresh fruit, as well as some drip coffee available on the bar.
The pool is very clean and nice to lounge around during the morning - that is when it gets the most sun!! We took advantage of the beach that The Plymouth has access to, which was fun for the day. Definitely not as glam as some other resorts' beach access, but worth it for the price :) The resort is also within walking distance of some CitiBikes near the beach, which I highly recommend renting and biking down the bike path to South Beach! Super fun.
Overall, the resort staff was very kind and accommodating! We were able to have a later check out and spend the rest of the day at the pool waiting for our delayed flight. Also, for those fearful, my credit card was not charged after our stay, as the hotel does put a hold on your card until check out. I would give it a total of 4.5 stars and would definitely recommend it to friends and family looking for an affordable yet fun stay on...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for our anniversary trip this past year. Our trip was almost cancelled due to Hurricane Nicole . Despite the no cancellations, the Plymouth was quick to work with us when we were stranded in Baltimore, and offered to give us a credit so that we could rebook. Luckily, we were able to make it a day later and they held the room for us. The staff were tremendous, all seeming genuinely happy that we made it in. Our room was incredibly small and the walls were kind of thin, but that didn’t matter to us because the bed was absolutely divine. I booked the Plymouth specifically because I saw they have restoration hardware furniture and that is my husband’s favorite store. We payed for a king with a Juliette balcony and had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. It was fun having the door open at night and watching over the dining patio of the restaurant. The shower was spacious and the room was adorable. The lobby was cute, it reminded me of an early 1960s smoking lounge.
The bar had a terrific happy hour which was perfect to grab a quick lychee martini and an appetizer each night before going out to dinner. The hotel is smaller, so the hotel staff remember you when you frequent the restaurant and pool, which is a nice touch. The pool bar is nice too and you can find frozen drinks and cold beer. They also do events and movies outside which was fun when we didn’t want to walk around town. The pool was always very warm and the tiling made it feel like you stepped back in time. The beach was just a convenient block away with a 24hr CVS right around the corner which came in handy. But the restaurant.. the restaurant is a hidden gem. The sushi was good and the wasabi was oddly one of the best parts of the meals; but the true shining glory is the brunch. We went to Orange Blossom the first day and were slightly disappointed by the options as we are huge exotic breakfast eaters. Blue Ribbon Sushi on the other hand has the most incredible chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was perfectly fried and the waffles were a black sesame waffle with miso butter. It was the best meal we had in all of Miami Beach.
Overall, our stay was tremendous. It’s been several months since our trip and we still talk about the naps we took and sitting at the bar during happy hour and watching over the gorgeous pool. We are even looking at basing our own dining room off of the hotel decor in the lobby. We would definitely stay again if we ever go back to...
