When we first arrived it wasn’t clear if you seat yourself or not and after awkwardly standing in the door for a few minutes, the bartender let us know we can sit wherever. As we made our way to our seat, we noticed a small swarm of flies. Once we sat down, a waiter came over quickly and was friendly. He took our drink order which ended up taking forever to get our drinks. It was about 3:45 in the afternoon while we were there so we planned on just getting an appetizer and some drinks. We asked the waiter if we could watch a football game on one of the screens and the one we pointed to was playing tennis he said another table was watching it. After looking around, we realized the same football game was playing on 3 different screens so it was frustrating there was no offer to change one of those. We ordered the tater tots which were decent. They didn’t come with a dipping sauce which I found weird. We sat there with empty glasses for a long time and would’ve stayed for another drink and appetizer, but service was very slow. They appeared to be short staffed. There was only one server and the place was almost full. While we were sitting there, we overheard another couple next to us say “this isn’t our kind of place” and they left without ordering anything because they sat there for so long without any service. Overall a disappointing experience since my husband and I were excited to try it after they reopened. Won’t...
Read moreI'd love to give my opinion of the place, but I can't, because they don't even pick up the phone. Ever. We're in Monterey all week, we tried to call to verify when karaoke night was cuz their (very poorly managed) social media accounts give wildly different information. Some posts say Monday, some say Thursday, and nobody's posted anything since August 4. It is August 25 as of this writing.
Not once did anyone pick up the phone, in all the dozen or so times we called across multiple days, always during supposed business hours. I just got the same "we're sorry, the mobile number you're trying to reach is not available" every single time. I didn't want to go through the effort of getting ready to go out just on the off chance they might have the karaoke or live music I wanted, and I kinda don't feel like giving my patronage to a business that actively avoids talking to customers. Also, I know it's 2025, but registering a private mobile number for a brick and mortar business, especially one as public-facing as a bar, is...
Read moreI wish I could score lower than 1 star. My first experience at the Bulldog Pub was fun and relaxing with family out of town. I came in for a second experience and it was a total disaster. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed and working alone on a Sunday night between 7-730pm. I ordered a Moscow mule and asked to close out my tab as I saw it was busy and I had a reservation to make, I only wanted one drink. The bar at the restaurant was packed, hence me coming across the street. Several orders were taken after mine and made in front of me. I received my Moscow mule 30 minutes after it was ordered. After asking for the fifth time to close out my tab my card was ripped out of my hand and given back to me after another order was closed out. ONLY BRING CASH TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. I tipped out of pity as the bartender was clearly overwhelmed and I didn't want bad karma, but it wasn't earned. Ticket time is not followed at this establishment, my expectations weren't high for this bar but now...
