On The Beach Surf Shop — Local services in Monterey

Walked in to the shop with a friend both wanting to learn to surf, however I had never even swam in the ocean before. When it came time to rent the equipment I chickened out. I told Kelly, the guy helping us, that I wanted to do it but im not going to do it because im too scared. He said "what are you afraid of??" I told him it was the power of the ocean, the unknown, I was just scared. Kelly wasn't having it. He said there's nothing to be scared of and that I should rent a boogie board. You only have to go in waist deep and you can get a good feel for the ocean. He convinced me, until my friend said "don't rent a boogie board! That's the scooter of surfing" lol but Kelly disagreed and said it's just a good place to start and that if I felt comfortable I could trade it in for a surf board. So we rented our equipment, headed out to the beach, & dove straight in to it. All fears went away soon as we were in the water. Being in the ocean and feeling the power of the waves was no longer frightening, but one of the most amazing feelings I've ever felt. Playing on the boogie board was fun, but I definitely wished I wasn't such a chicken and just rented a surf board (they're so much more fun!) When we returned the equipment Kelly asked me if I smiled. I said "oh my gawd YES!!" & he said that's what it's all about :) he's right, & Kelly I can't thank you enough for giving me courage and hooking us up. That day is one I'll never forget, one that puts a smile on my face every time I think about it. Thank you...

Today was another amazing experience with the best customer service ever! I brought my grandson in to buy a new wetsuit since he was outgrowing the one we bought last summer from On the Beach. in Monterey on Lighthouse Ave. My grandson has autism and gets easily upset when things don't go his way. The new wetsuit was a bit too tight so we were going to order a larger size they didn't have in stock today. Grandson had a meltdown and then the owner of the shop Kelly Sorenson came out of his office and offered to help us. He was kind, patient, found a suit in stock that would work and helped him put it on. I couldn't believe how calming he was. Probably because he is a dad of five kids and has a child the same age as my grandson. Then he answered my questions about bogey boards for little ones and surf instructors for special kids, he was so helpful. I highly recommend this store for all your local water sports...

So I called in the morning and explained we are in from Huntington Beach and our original plans had fallen through. My husband is an avid surfer but we did not bring a surf board this time. Clint was so helpful on the phone. I told him my husband likes to go early but they don’t open until 10. Clint offered us a 24 hour rental and told me to come close to closing, when we showed up Clint was there to help us. Got my husband a board and wetsuit. Even with my husband running around the store like a giddy child we where in and out in less then 30 minutes. Clint even went above and beyond by helping my husband get the rack and surf board on the car as well as tell us a killer surf spot to go to. The price was great, the service was excellent, and we will definitely be back probably to buy a new surf board. Thank you so much for the wonderful...
