Weekend trip with my toddler. Originally was going to book Ocean Reef, but when calling we were told they were booked up and found this sister property. We looked at several different properties and decided on this one due to value, indoor pool, and location.
Specifically asked the person taking the reservation if construction was complete and was told it was. Upon arrival, renovation was still happening. At check in, I then asked if construction is active on weekends, I was told no. Again, this was not accurate. While this seems minor for the average person, I am coming in with a toddler who naps during the day. A toddler that can't nap when they are literally hammering in the room beside us at 12PM on a Saturday. And if you don't know, a nap starved toddler is the devil reincarnated. Had we known, we would have booked elsewhere to ensure we would not run into issues. Construction closed down part of the garage ground level. One elevator was also out of service, not sure if it was due to the construction or not, but it made wait times longer. The pools were not well kept. The only pool that did not have dirty water was the outdoor pool which was too chilly to use half our stay. The water from the lazy rivers, hot tubs, and other pools were murkey. The indoor pool in the building we were placed in was roped off and drained due to trash. There should be better maintenance to keep the pools clear and more check ins to prevent debris from getting inside the pools in the first place. We stayed two nights and our room was not cleaned during our stay. No trash was taken, no towels were taken, no beds made. We got a stack of towels placed on our bed and that was it. Our check in paper had a note about covid preventing any cleaning services happening, but I assume it was not applicable since covid precautions were lifted five years ago. We would have at least liked for our dirty towels to be taken.
There was a fight at the dinner restaurant that two patrons were trying to break up. It was not until someone starting throwing punches that the security guard, WHO HAD BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME, actually got up and did something. It did not appear outwardly dangerous, but traveling just myself and daughter, it was concerning to see.
The room we had was renovated and clean. No carpet, which was lovely, and the view was amazing. Once the renovations are ACTUALLY complete, I do think the inside will look fantastic. Price was fantastic. $280 for a warm weekend beachside. Server at The Crow's Nest Restaurant was fabulous. He was super kind and even though they were super busy, he was able to quickly get us our food and prices were not terrible. We also had breakfast at Compass Rose. Server was great, food was fine. Super convenient.
The pool area had lots of options. On the main property, there was an indoor pool, two hot tubs, two large slides, lazy river and two hot tubs. The large slides have a height limit of maybe like 48 inches? Someone said you needed a bracelet to ride the slides, we did not have bracelets or would have known where to get them. There were a few glass panels missing on the enclosure, so I am not sure just how warm it would be on days when the temperature is chiller. The other building are more hot tubs and a couple outdoor heated pools and a splash pad area. Finally, inside the second building, was a large heated indoor pool, lazy river, little mushroom splash thing, and some hot tubs. These were inside, but not enclosed completely, so again, could be chilly if weather is not great. There was no real “watching” of people in and out, so anyone could come in and swim. The surrounding area is typical Myrtle Beach. Not somewhere I would be alone at night, but not something I am afraid to walk around during the day. We walked a quarter mile down the road to Scooby's Ice Cream Bar & Grill and got cones that were wonderful.
The attraction tickets were perfect. We did not use them this time, but plan to go back and use them if we visit again. Broadway at the beach is an easy drive and has...
Read moreThis place is a dump and management doesn't care. First day we get there st 4:15 to check in to the room and the computers were down. That was fine bc we had things we wanted to do off the resort. They promised they would call us when the system came back up. At 11:30pm we had still not heard anything from the resort so we drove back over there to see if the system was up. The girl at the front desk said the system was up and she didn't know anything about it ever being down and knew about calling anyone. She was a little rude but im it still had not ruined my vacation. We got assigned to our room and I enter in with 2 teenage girls to find others people's stuff in the room and several packages of condoms. I call the front desk and was told to come back down there. While on the phone the people who's stuff was in there came back to get the remainder of their stuff bc they said they were suppose to have a 2 bed unit and was mistakenly put in a 1 bed unit. The front desk said I had to come back down there...no mind you its not lole coming down the elevator to get to the front desk. You have to walk a little ways at 11:30 at night (so me as a female and 2 teen girls walking down the side of the road at 11:30 at night. No apologies for putting us in a room already occupied. In fact they said it was not their mistake but someone must have slipped in behind housekeeping. Now I dont believe that for a second bc there were bags and when they left I saw them enter another room with a bracelet key card. We are assig ed to our 2nd room. By now the other mom and another teenager had joined us. They had gone to park the car across the road. I will get to the parking problems later. We go into the 2nd room and there is a dirty towel in the bathroom. The bed covers are damp from the moisture in the room. There is something spilled all down the side of the refrigerator. There is so much moisture in the room everything metal had a significant amouny of rust on it and mold was in the room. Called back to the front desk and you guessed it....we had to walk back to the front desk again. Its now after midnight. On our walk back to the front desk was met with a girl threatening to beat up another girl and just a sense of unsavory characters walking around. Get back to the front desk to get our 3rd room. Still no apologies and told they had sent security up to the first room and no one was there so must have been freeloaders. Like I had already said they got the remainder of their stuff while I was still there and they had a room bracelet on. We get to our 3rd room and its now almost 12:30. We asked where a cart was so we could unload our stuff and take the room. The front desk lady says somewhere in the lobby on the first floor. Wrong!! Remember I said we had to park across the street so now we have to make trips back and forth across the street as 5 females at 12:30 at night. We get to the 3rd room and there is mold in the bathroom, moisture on the ceiling and it just looks old and outdated but we are tired and decide to go to bed and just deal with it bc really we were only going to sleep in the hotel and could make anything work for a few days. Next morning my daughter wakes up with a roach in her bed. I call down to the front desk and ask to speak to manager. I explained everything that had transpired and could we get another room. I was advised no but she would send up pest control. I asked for the covers to be changed on all the beds. No one ever showed up. In fact when we needed more towels we had to go get them ourselves. So we couldn't get our money back, we couldn't get a new room and we couldn't get housekeeping. Next day still no fresh towels, still no clean sheets and still no pest control. The first time housekeeping knocked on the door to clean was this morning and then realized we were checking out. Oh I forgot to mention found a fake fingernail on the floor in the middle of the sitting area and a toenail clipping on...
Read moreBeen going to Myrtle Beach since I was a kid so I have stayed in many MB hotels over the years and am very well aware of what to expect. I've never stayed at Compass Cove, and since I had my small pom with me, we decided to try it out for a long weekend. I booked a 2BR 2BA penthouse in the Pinnacle building in early September. 5 days before my arrival, I received a phone call that they cannot honor my reservation as booked as the unit was under renovation. I was offered (2) 1BR queen rooms instead for the price I paid for the PH. At first I thought this could be OK, but then I discovered the rooms weren't connected, and they didn't have a washer/dryer. This ultimately changed the dynamic of the vacation a bit since we couldn't really hang out completely in the evenings since we had separate suites. Having 2 bathrooms available in 1 unit is also more convenient than having 1 bathroom per suite. They couldn't make the room keys work for both suites.
As background, I booked a large suite initially because I like space. I like to have separate rooms as much as possible. We only had 4 people (no couples, just family and a friend), but I wanted additional space because I think the 1 bedrooms are cramped. I also like having laundry available to take home clean clothing.
Unfortunately due to the fact that it was now so close to the travel dates and I had a dog, I was unable to find other accommodations and had to keep this one.
The things I really liked: lots of pools. The property is huge and has a ton of indoor/outdoor pools, hot tubs, and lazy rivers which are kept very clean. restaurants, gift shop, coffee shop on site close to activities, though, you will see drug deals and other illegal things happening since it is MB, unfortunately. wristband room keys. Loved this. Only saw this one other time in Aruba at a Ritz so was pleasantly surprised to see this. breakfast was very good, and the wait staff during breakfast were so nice and attentive. One even recognized us after only meeting us the day before and had 2 coffees in hand and offered me a diet coke (what I got the day before) as we were sitting down! So kind and thoughtful. 99% of the staff were super friendly. Had a bit of a hiccup with my friend getting her parking pass, but otherwise, everyone was nice.
Issues: in one of the rooms the AC was not turning on. It was fixed a few hours later safe in one of the rooms did not work. Not sure about the other room as my friend did not check internet was terribly slow. Before coming, I thought it I liked it I could come down for a month or so and work remotely, but the internet would never be sufficient can't call the front desk from the room phone; you get a fast busy missing items. One room didn't have a hair dryer. I asked for a replacement, but no one responded so I got the one from the other room. The next day, a hair dryer was put in the room I took it from. only 1 room had a coffee pot. The other did not. random broken items like a broken balcony chair, lamps that did not turn on, outlets are so old that many plugs fall out and won't stay in feces on the balcony, from both birds and possibly from something/someone else at first, the rooms seemed clean. Beds were clean, it smelled fresh, surfaces were clean. However, the carpets were utter filth, and there were stains on the furniture. I mean complete filth. I know there had to be urine from other animals (or people?) because my dog kept smelling the carpet. And our socks turned black. I wiped the carpet with a wet paper towel only 3 strokes, and it was black. All I kept thinking was how a parent could ever allow their toddler or crawling baby to ever be on that floor. I didn't even want my dog walking on it. After the change in my reservation, this was the 2nd worst thing. Those 2 things are why I rated 2 stars.
I'm honestly not sure if I'd come back.
