We recently spent a week at this resort in early December for two milestone birthdays, and our experience left much to be desired. While we’ve stayed at numerous hotels, motels, and resorts for sports leisure, this one was particularly disappointing. ||The Positives:|Let’s start with the good. The resort boasts a fantastic ocean view and beautiful sandy beaches where we could even see dolphins from our 7th-floor room. The location is a highlight, but unfortunately, it was overshadowed by numerous issues that made our stay feel more like a nightmare than a vacation.||Cons:||1. Multiple Unauthorized Charges: | Our credit card was charged 13 times during our stay, sometimes even twice in one day. Despite notifying the staff, no one took responsibility. My bank even called to confirm if it was fraud. The hotel’s policy states that charges would only occur at the end of the stay, which was not followed. Additionally, we could never reach a manager or general manager to address our concerns.||2. Safety Hazard: | I sustained an injury in our room due to metal tacks sticking out of the carpet, necessitating a visit to urgent care. This was a serious safety concern that should have been addressed more promptly.||3. Room Damage: | Upon checking into our room, we noted damage in the bathroom/wall/floor. The staff acknowledged it but offered no apologies or solutions—just a vague promise to make a note of it.||4. Security Issues: | The security door on the 3rd floor of the upper parking area was not secure, allowing free access to anyone. While there were respectful individuals who are unhoused in the garage, it’s still an uncomfortable situation for families, my 15 year old son escorted a young lady and child to their car.||Additional Considerations:|- Parking: Be prepared to pay $15 per day for parking.|- Breakfast: While breakfast is complimentary, it’s hit or miss. The waffle makers had a long wait time, and the hotdogs served as breakfast items were perplexing. The oatmeal was particularly watery, like we don’t understand how any one can make it like soup. ( suggestion Smoothie bar & turn on the TV’s )|The cheese eggs & the potatoes with peppers were great. ||- Pool and Hot Tub: The resort lacks indoor pools or hot tubs even though the site and some staff confirmed they did - |They are semi covered allowing cold air in and the options were not well-maintained until closer to the weekend.|- Local Use of Facilities: We noticed locals using the side showers, which was not an issue for us, but something to be aware of especially if you have young children. |The semi covered pool and hot tubs areas are located within the area of the parking garage. The bathrooms were locked outside until Thursday afternoon. ||- Cats: There are five cats around the pool area, likely beach cats due to the pet-friendly policy. While cute, families with young children should be cautious.||- Family Activities: The resort claims to be family-friendly, yet lacks engaging activities for families, especially during the off-season. Games or organized activities would be a great addition for off season.||- Laundry Facilities: The laundry room on the 8th floor has only one washer and dryer, each costing $2.00 (8 coins) - The Washer takes 22 minutes. A wall folding table would be helpful or a chair, thank god for bath towels to sit on. However the Hotel provides laundry detergent- we brought our own.||Staff Commendation: |Despite the issues, the restaurant chef was incredible and bar staff, especially Mike, Steven, and the Portuguese gentleman, made our experience at the restaurant enjoyable. However, my teen was disappointed that none of the slushy machines offered non-alcoholic options.| We were also a bit disappointed that they didn’t have any holiday themed snacks or drinks Also the 9pm closure was a major setback.||Conclusion:|This hotel may be suitable for snowbirds, traveling groups, or business professionals needing a short stay. I bet this is an amazing place particularly in the busier summer months. However, for families looking to enjoy a winter vacation, I would recommend exploring other options. ||Also the piers close by are private & cost $3.00 per person however it’s an all day wristband…||We hope this review helps fellow travelers make informed decisions. We'll be sharing this feedback across various forums and with our community travel agents.||We suggest you contact The Hampton Inn in Hagerstown after this nightmare we experienced that hotel and it was like a...
Read moreI thought this hotel would be great, I was wrong. They try to cover the dog odor, but you can still smell it. Our room carpet has a big stain at the foot of the bed and I wouldn'tbe surprised if is urine. People bring big dogs that have no discipline and their owners just ignore it. Our first night was OK, the rooms on either side of me were noisy, but they were gone the next day. Day 2 we started seeing a few fleas, day 3 which was Friday night, Oct 16th, I killed about 10 fleas off of my bed and my self, this probably explains why the new check in set off a bug bomb or sprayed some flea spray around 5:15 am Thursday morning. I went down to the desk and told them at 2 am Saturday morning about the fleas, the guy I told acted all shocked, he told me he could change my room and then proceeded to tell me, well all their rooms are dog friendly, Sorry but if a room on 12 has fleas they all probably have fleas. Seriously, If a hotel is going to allow pets up to 75 pounds in every room they have there should not be carpet in the rooms. I have have stayed in a couple dog friendly hotels, but none of them had carpet in the rooms or hallway, they were all vinyl. They also lock all the doors from 10 pm to 7 am so you cannot take your dog out on the hotel property to the pee/poop area, we are forced to walk down the street to find a place for my dog to go potty. Since she is a service dog she is trained to go around 7 am, noon, 5;30 pm and 11 pm. The only good thing about this stay is at least my dog will stay flea free because she is a service dog and takes a once a month medication to keep her flea free, the beds were comfy and had a great view. Also one of the rooms on my side was smoking, did they care when I said something? Nope she just shrugged her shoulders, so I walked away. On top our almost $1500.00 stay for 6 nights, they charge you $15 a day to park in their garage, so we paid another $90 on top of almost $1500.00.
Breaskfast was nasty, runny eggs, gray sausage, soggy French toast, no orange juice this morning, they claim breakfast is free, but I am sure that cost is included in the $1500 we paid for this place the only good thing is the waffles. There are 7 plus pools/hot tubs and all them have crap in the bottom, they skim the top but ignore the stuff in the bottom of the pool and the pool pictures were taken around 10 am before anyone gets in the pools/hot tubs, they have like since we checked in on the 16th. Noone cleans the sand from the walkway that goes to the beach, I actually slipped and fell once so far, yep we are still here umtil Tuesday morning. I hate this place, and my vacation this time. Myrtle Beach in general has gone downhill, this hotel topped off my decision to never come back here to vacation ever again. The staff may be friendly, but they do not care about the patrons, they look at like you are a inconvenience or stupid. I would rather pay $79 a night for hotel than waste $200 a night for one that looks great and is actually nasty. How this place gets great reviews is beyond me, maybe if you are lucky and get the North tower it may be nice, who knows.
We also get to look at mold in the sink while you sit on the crapper that faces the sink🤢
I get up this morning and saw we got a $77.39 credit to our $200 a day room, I'm assuming because of our fleet issue on 10/18/24. Yes I could have moved to another pet, pee friendly room, but I am sure there would have been fleas too because according to them all rooms are pet friendly, so what was the point? Run as fast as you if your dog is flea free and your pet is completely house broke because all you smell here is pee and unclean dog smell when in your room, and they will take you for all you have to pad their pockets. They charged my husband's credit card $40 and $50, they crefited the $50, and this morning we see $30, a $40 and another $40 charge, they do not give you a receipt upon checkout and tell you it will be emailed to you, so you can't dispute extra charges you did not incur...
Read moreMy wife and I just returned to Wisconsin after a week at this Hampton property (4.13.24 to 4.20.24) and we had a wonderful, relaxing time and would recommend it to friends. We chose it because friends we trust had stayed here in previous years and recommended it. They did not steer us wrong.
I admit worrying about making the reservation after seeing some negative (old) comments but we stuck with it and realized those negative reviews were unfounded, or certainly no longer the case. We really enjoyed our stay in our 9th floor oceanfront suite. Amazing beach views and beach access. Plenty of pool options. Yes, they were still wrapping up some renovations so one of the pools was closed for a day during our stay but there are so many alternatives, plus the ocean, that it wasn't a big deal.
Pros: Fantastic beach/oceanfront views (incredible sunrise + pelicans) Very clean rooms, lobby and gathering spaces Excellent beach access Numerous pool options (see photos) Tons of poolside seating (both in the sun and in the shade under the overhang where the "indoor" pools are located Very good breakfast options (both hot and cold) every day from 6-10 (and several workers kept it constantly refreshed and clean) Rental umbrellas/cabanas + chairs on the beach right in front of the hotel (provided by the city; rent from the lifeguards) Great front desk service (Valerie and Faye were SUPER welcoming and helpful, as was our shuttle driver Gabe) Plenty of space on the beach to relax Not crawling with tourists -- it's a 1.2 mile walk north to reach the south end of the Boardwalk so you're close to that action but not in the middle of it. Fast elevators allowed us to get to/from our 9th-floor room quickly Golden Hour vendor by the pool area offered food/drink options from 11-5 Free airport shuttle Very close to airport There is a Walmart Neighborhood Market a block away, so we were able to walk over and load up on some supplies & snacks for the beach
Cons: The newly renovated restaurant off the lobby (which looks beautiful) was not completed during our stay so we couldn't enjoy it. But I heard it's opening 4.22. There is a gorgeous balcony outside it (and breakfast area, too). My ONLY complaint about our room was that the pillows were very flat. I prefer a firmer memory foam pillow b/c of shoulder pain so that was troublesome having to stack five pancake pillows to try to resemble one decent one.
Worth noting about the area/location: There are definitely some sketchy properties nearby, especially to the south, which is why I gave it a 4 rating for location. That could turn people off, though it is still very close (1 mile) from the Boardwalk area with the Sky Wheel. On the advice of our rideshare driver(s), we did not venture south on foot after dark. We DID, however, walk a mile south to eat at Damon's in the early evening before sunset and felt totally comfortable. We also walked north the 1.2 miles to the start of the Boardwalk and again had no problems.
If you're turned off by the appearance of the rundown properties, you can just stay on the Hampton property and have a great beach vacation, or drive elsewhere to shop/eat. There were plenty of Uber/Lyft drivers in the area and we could always get one within 5 minutes.
The beach always felt safe. We walked 2-3 miles in each direction and it was wonderful. Very wide and walkable. Perfect.
Bottom line: They are nearing the end of their renovations, we were told, and it is looking gorgeous, so it'll be even better with each week. We had a wonderful, relaxing week there and would recommend. We'd gladly return. We already miss the amazing South Carolina sunrises...
