I wish we had listened to the reviews we were reading about this place. When we first arrived May 5th for our sons 13th birthday trip we had to sign a document saying we would not get a refund if we chose to leave early. That should of been my first red flag as I have never had to sign anything like that at any hotel before. Then we got to our room which was the 3 bedroom cottage in the back of both hotels off to itself along wiht two other houses (cottages). My parents came on this trip with us and stayed in the cottage behind us. Our room was disgusting. Our trash was still full, we found dirty used towels in the closet in the master, our feet were black our whole stay, there was black spots of dirt all over the comforter in the master, the couches were stained, the walls had stains of dirt that look they have not been wiped down in forever, and walls were peeling paint. Our room was set at 70 and was 77 in there when we first walked in. We thought maybe it needed some time to cool off as the back door to the cottage was cracked open when we arrived. We left for a few hours an when we arrived back hours later it was still 77. I went to the front desk at around 9:30 pm and they called maintenance out to take a look. They were in and out of our room for 2 hours and did not get it "fixed" until midnight. They had to replace the compressor and it should be cooler by morning. That night after we finally when to bed we found out that right outside our room window there was a fight that broke out between two men that were seen in the woods by the cottage early that day. The police, firetrucks, and ambulance came around 3:30 am. So, when we awoke the next morning and our ac was still 77, I went to the office. Harsh the manager came out and said we are switching cottages and put us in the 3 bedroom cottage next door. We had to pack all of our stuff back up that on our sons 13th birthday to move. The second cottage we stayed in was just as filthy as the first one. I had to go out and buy a mop to clean the floors and our feet were still black. My son found pee on the toilet. We also had to go out and buy our own papertowels, dish soap to wash dishes, and we had one coffee cup and no bowls. When your staying in a room that has a full kitchen they should provide all of that to you. We have never gone on vacation and had to buy our own basic necessities. We went out to dinner and when we came back someone was sitting on our old cottage back door right near our parents cottage. My parents asked him what he was doing and he said just charging my phone. We went to the front desk and they called police to come get the man off the property (he was homeless and living in the woods next to the cottage). The police said they should have more no trespassing signs up on the property. The mananger Harsh did not care or offer up an appology for us having to deal with that. We also found out there are no securty cameras back where the cottages are. The rest of our time there we saw women being dropped off by men on the hotel parking property at all hours of the day. People walking in and out of the woods. One man was sitting in the woods right behind where our window was and scared me when taking out my dog. When we sent a complaint to Wyndam about our stay we got a generic response from the hotel manager saying he addressed all of our concerns when we were there. NO YOU DID NOT. Yes, you moved our room when our ac broke but you did not address our safety concerns. You had people on your property all the time walking in front of our door and did not care. There should be a fence around the cottages back there if you know that all the crime is happening right next to them. It was the first time we stayed anywhere and felt so unsafe that we couldnt sleep. We signed that paper when we got there we were stuck and couldnt leave to stay some where else without losing all of our vacation money. They did not care. Please do me a favor and stay somewhere else so your family vacation is not ruined by the lack of care...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay very much, the penthouse suite was amazing!!! It was so clean and quiet, and because of health issues I do like the option to do our own cooking in the room and having full size appliances in the kitchen really made our stay pleasant. We stayed in January so traffic was low but having to cross the road to the pool and the ocean was not the best with kids. I wish I could have given 5 Stars since we loved the room so much and the staff was great. But we did not like the hotel being on both sides of the street. I found it to be a hassle to get the pool towels from the front desk. The front desk is on the non ocean side, and you must fill out paperwork for the towels. They will also give you a ludicrous stern warning that if all towels are not properly returned to the front desk you will be charged $20 a towel. Yeah, that's weird. Not really sure why they have a hamper near the pool area unless it is to trip you into placing their towel in the basket to be later charged for the mistake. And if that was not bad enough I waited 15 minutes for towels, a guest should not have to wait for you to check in several guests just to get a towel. To make matters worse, the staff had issues with the computer that made check in take longer than necessary. Then they had conversations with all the guests while I'm standing waiting for towels. Completely unnecessary, they could have given me my towels instead of standing there talking about the issues they are having to the guest. Two people working the front desk at the same time each having issues and both seemed completely unaware that I am freezing, wearing a bathing suit its January and I just want my stupid towel so I can cross the street and meet up with my family. Of course jokes on me, I waited for the towels and get to the pool and it was freezing. NO way I was getting in! My kids did, I hoped the hot tub would be my place. But, NO! After we pulled out a cigarette butt, we turned off the jets and it was nasty!! The thing needed to be drained and refilled. Super gross but makes sense why they kept the jets on constantly. Another issue we had was the amount of homeless people that come out after dark. They seem to live in the patio area you must pass to get to the ocean. We were not bothered by them but it was not something that made us feel safe when you have several people hiding in the shadows all around the hotel. If you are a smoker this hotel may not be for you. They do not allow you sit on your private balcony and have a smoke. They prefer you to hide behind dumpsters or in other dark areas that are far from your room. Maybe they find that to be unsightly, they also do not allow you to hang a towel or other beach type items from the balcony. Another reason I can not give a excellent review is the prostitutes that use the parking lot as a pick up and drop off spot. I could not believe when my husband came to me and told me about the woman he met in the parking lot. He said she got out of a car and they drove off right away. Then she told him she was having a bad night and didn't make as much as she wanted from him. She bummed a smoke, and went on her way. We are from a small town and probably a bit naive. I thought on our first night that everything was fine, I actually thought all the ladies on the street at night were exploring or going for a night walk. My husband stopped me from my night walk, glad he did. Instead I sat on our balcony that looked out to the street and realized it was not as safe as I thought. So many people doing odd things and shouting horrible things at people walking on the sidewalk. I did meet a nice local that told me we were at the wrong area. She suggested staying in north myrtle when we return. This location is not for families, but a wild party place and not where...

As a retired combat vet with 23 years of service, I have had the opportunity to travel extensively, staying in various hotels and accommodations during our many permanent changes of stations both overseas and in the continental United States. Furthermore, I hold an MBA and am a doctoral candidate, which has honed my ability to critically evaluate business practices. As someone with a keen understanding of business principles, I must express my profound disappointment with our stay at the Sandbar Hotel in Myrtle Beach. The management team's lack of transparency and failure to address the numerous issues we encountered was not only disheartening but also a stark departure from the service we expected from a Wyndham franchise. The following were encountered during our stay: • Numerous verbal and physical altercations among people outside of our hotel cottage. For example, two suspects assaulted a victim outside our cottage at 3 am, and the police were dispatched. An ambulance responded and transported the victim.
• Upon Our return to the cottage after dark, we noticed a grocery buggy on our front lawn and a person on our back patio. Considering we were sharing the patio with our daughter, staying in the adjacent cottage, we were startled as no one should have been hanging out there. We asked him if he was maintenance, and we got a response that he was recharging his phone. Therefore, we expressed our distress to the management, who, despite calling the police who issued a trespassing warning, seemed unconcerned and offered no resolution. The cumulative effect of these incidents left us feeling anxious and uncomfortable, necessitating our decision to leave. We then went to the front desk; thankfully, the clerk was empathetic. Without being able to consult with management the clerk decided to move us to one of their smaller main hotel rooms.
• During our stay in the smaller hotel room, we dealt with a manifestation of roaches. Also, fights broke out in the motel across from us. Additionally, we noticed someone passed out on the bench next to our room when taking our dogs out around 1 am, and they were still out on the bench when we checked out at 10 am.
• When leaving, we noticed that our room charges per night were the same as our daughter, who stayed in a 3-room cottage beside us, compared to our 1-bedroom cottage. We complained to management and were told that we were somehow charged a 3-bedroom rate, yet because we acknowledged the reservation, we had no recourse to receive a refund for the overcharge. The response was: “You decided the rate you booked, and the hotel is not giving you a discount.” Therefore, either the management team condones charging the same rate for each cottage regardless of size, or their business practice allows no compensation for mistakes made on their part.
• When reserving our reservation, the website noted they offer a continental breakfast. However, there was no breakfast, and the clerk advised us that the continental breakfast had been discontinued months ago. While we understand that the hotel is under new management, a confident management team would have either contacted guests who had booked before the decision or offered refunds.

If I could render a 0 rating, I would. My recommendation is if planning a trip to Myrtle Beach, you avoid this hotel...
