Rooms 722 & 724 (May 4-6) GOOD: The size of the room and the bathroom were comparable to other hotels, and the view from the balcony was lovely. My suite 724 afforded a coffee pot and mini-fridge. However, there were no coffee cups in my suite, so therefore, I did not use the coffee pot. The staff members that we spoke with were friendly. NOT SO GOOD: As a pet friendly hotel, I recommend not having carpets in the suites. The carpets were worn, stained, and generally unclean. We were hesitant to walk in our suites bare-footed. The beds in my suite both had stains on the bed skirts, which may or may not have been dog urine. As a dog-friendly hotel the rooms afforded very strong odors of dog. And, we did not have dogs with us. The first morning, housekeeping took our damp towels, but never returned with fresh towels. I asked for fresh towels at the front desk, and had to give our room numbers in order to acquire them. Only three of the four beds used were made up the first morning. The carpets were not vacuumed at all during our stay, and nor was the tile floor swept at any time during our two nights and three days. I'm not entirely confident in stating that the floors were vacuumed or swept prior to our arrival. Additionally, the popcorn ceilings in both suites were peeling above the balconies. The toilet in my suite was in need of a good scrubbing around the rim, but otherwise was tidy. This hotel has the potential to be very nice with much better housekeeping. The carpets need scrubbed and/or replaced. The couch in my friends' suite had an overwhelming odor of dog and was unpleasant to sit on. We kept our balcony doors open when we were in the rooms to air out the strong smells. The rooms that we stayed in looked nothing like the rooms that were advertised on the website. Perhaps the other rooms are different, but we definitely did not arrive at the rooms that we were expecting. OTHER: The indoor pool amenities were under construction and unavailable. The outdoor pool was clean and there appeared to be plenty of chairs for the guests. The hot tub was a nice temperature and again plenty of seating was available for guests. There was a nice deck with several lounge chairs available for sunbathers. There was dog feces on the deck, which I assume the dog owner should have been responsible for cleaning up and hadn't. For the most part, the outdoor accommodations were lovely. Just be careful where you step.

In general, we had a very pleasant time during our 4 day / 3 night stay at The Ocean Park Resort in South Myrtle Beach. I would have to say that the positives out numbered the negative, I feel like I received the expected value for the price, and we will probably spend time here again in the future. If you are traveling with your dog (as we were) this is a very good option to consider, but I have seen places that cater better to pets during other travels. What I liked: 1. Excellent Beach / Ocean Views from almost every room 2. Super Friendly Staff at every encounter 3. Definitely a dog friendly environment 4. Clean Rooms and good maintenance of the facility (With the exception of a broken elevator on the morning of check-out. This seemed like it may occur more frequently than expected.) 5. Smoke Free Facility 6. Great Beach Access 7. Easy Check-In / Check-Out process 8. Rooms had working kitchen appliances that were in great condition. 9. Parking facilities were very good, but I was there during off-peak times. What I did not like: 1. Check-Out time is 10:00AM firm. (This caused me some problems and they would not extend it to 11:00AM unless I purchased their 4:00pm extension package.) 2. Lack of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance (Not technically a resort problem, but something to consider when staying here.) 3. Limited area to let your dog do their business. No doggie poop bags and disposal facilities near by to help keep the small dog area clean. 4. Would have been nice to have a floor mat in the room to control sand collection on the hard surface floors 5. Room keys seemed to constantly fail and need to be reprogrammed. It happened to me three times, my wife once, and there was always someone else at the office desk with the same problem when I had my keys reprogrammed. This became a minor annoyance. Honestly, I probably would have considered a 5-star review if it weren’t for the 10:00AM check-out time and the lack of good dining and coffee shops within walking distance. I consider a normal check-out time to be 12:00 noon and an early check-out time to be 11:00AM. This 10:00AM check-out time seems to just be a way to grab a few extra dollars from families who will be forced to pay the extra fee to allow the proper amount of time to prepare everyone for their journeys home.

OK, be prepared for the most real review you have ever read. First, let me tell you the positive because they are just a couple. Yes, it is a dog friendly facility. Yes, it does. Sit next to the beach. The beds are comfortable. And the AC does blow cold. Now are you ready for the negatives? First parking is horrible. Small parking deck if it is full your parking across the street. The front door is locked for security so you have to wait for someone to open the door for you to go to the front desk. Once at the front desk and check in you are issued two sets of codes. One code is for any outside door the second code which is 10 digits long is how Is how you’re able to get into your room. And it doesn’t always work. Imagine how to punch in a 10 digit code every time you go in and out of your room. They failed to mention on the website they they don’t clean the rooms while you’re staying, they don’t pick the trash up. You have to take it to trash shoot At the end of the hall and dump the trash Yourself. If you need more towels, you have to go downstairs to the front desk and trade your old for the new they will not give you new without your old. Also, if you need toiletries. You have to get it the same way. In front of everyone who has also checking in at the same time. My lamp in my room, the Bulb was blown. They handle and the shower was broke. So you’re not able to control the temperature of the Hot water. The wall art that decorates the room has some type of spillage on it. The rooms are extremely outdated and need repairs. The hotel itself needs Repairs. One of the two elevators broke down. Couple of the security doors they go out to the pool were broken which you meant you had to walk around the hotel to get to the pool. Please understand. That my review Is the truth in what I experienced. If you’re OK with what I said, then you will love this place. But strongly recommend spending another hundred bucks and finding another place to stay.

I stayed in this hotel with my mom and our two dogs for a week. I have a lot to say about it and pretty much none of it is good so buckle in.

The first major issue that I had with this place is that it had roaches. Every single staff (except one) we told about this was super dismissive and tried to tell us it was palmetto bugs. Palmetto bugs are massive compared to roaches and I 100% know the difference. We always check the beds for bedbugs and things but you really don't see roaches unless you flip the lightswitch in the middle of the night and they scurry about. I saw a total of THREE roaches during our stay, one on the sink, a tiny one on the floor of the kitchen area, and the final one I was not able to kill and it went under the fridge. We bought lots of poison and took precautions then prayed to baby Jesus that we didn't bring them home. Additionally, I encountered fleas. I expected some fleas but it was salt in the wound at this point.

The next thing I'm going to talk about happened to another guest, but I was able to see the carnage so I'm putting it here. It's important information. The toilet above the guest's room fell through the ceiling and the poor guy had sewage, feces, toilet paper etc. All over his room. All his clothes, shoes, everything was ruined. And I saw him in the lobby arguing with staff as i carried out my stuff, and even after an hour they still hadn't gotten him a new room, a refund, nothing. I hope he sues.

The next issue I want to talk about is the doggy bathroom place. It is absolutely one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. They have a small area, like a tiny maybe 7' x 7' patch of carpet, outside, that every dog in the hotel goes to use the bathroom on. If you get within like ten feet of this thing you can smell it, I can't imagine the diseases it carries. I did see them spraying it once during my stay, but it is still disgusting as it is CARPET IN THE HOT SUN COVERED IN URINE AND FECES. and it's sooo small for soo many dogs. Like how do they think that's okay. I could not allow my dog on it and we went elsewhere to let him do his business.

Other issues:

no regulation of the animals. (I saw a dog literally attack another dog because an irresponsible person did not have her dogs on a leash.)

No ac in the elevators. Prepare to feel all the heat of a small enclosed space which bakes in 100 degree weather for hours.

No upkeep of the common areas nor the swimming areas. The pool on our last day was so skanky we couldn't even get in it. (Also no housekeeping)

The rooms are so small, you can literally barely open the door. In fact, the door to the room hits the fridge and you have to kind of jiggle it to get out.

The balcony is not small dog friendly. In fact it was very loose so I'm not certain it's even people friendly.

The photos are sooooo misleading. This place is a dump. It is also in no way a condo. This is a crammed in little cheap hotel room with roaches and fleas.

A small thing, if your dog sleeps with you, that's a big no-no here as they will charge you for dog hair on the sheets. Just to let you know.

I will talk briefly about the good things as there are not many.

There were a couple of excellent staff members. Friendly and nice.

It's right on the beach.

That's it. That's all I got. Do not stay here. Do not believe the good reviews. They are either ancient or paid reviewers. I promise you, as a regular person who works hard and just wanted a decent vacation - staying here was a...

We came to this location about three weeks ago, and sense then I have been contemplating my review.

When arriving to this location we were testing it out to see if this was going to be our vacation hotel (which we take 3 a year) for years to come. It’s hard to find a place at a good price, on the beach, that two kids and two dogs would enjoy. We had such high hopes.

I was not very impressed with this place, however it did allow my two dogs (at a great price) and it wasn’t to expensive for the week we stayed.

They do have a free dvd rental onsite (similar to red box) which my children enjoyed.

They have two pools and several hot tubs. The inside pool was so warm it felt like I was in the hot tub trying to swim. It would literally take my breath away, and I was paranoid to allow my son to swim in it because of how hot it was. The boarding on outside deck on the far side next to the pool was coming up and had I not noticed it, either me or the children would have gotten hurt on it. I was also paranoid that maybe there were some nails that could be out for you to step on. There wasn’t any shade outside at the pool, not even an umbrella at the tables. I was very disappointed by this.

The doggy “play” area was a small area in the dead center of the parking garage. I was not very impressed, wasn’t truly much space for the dogs to run and play.

The elevator broke while we were there, thankfully they fixed that quickly, but it did make it a pain going from the pool area to our room on the 8th floor.

The room was nice (looked like any other hotel room). The floor was hardwood which was great for having pets! Smart choice!

The maid service was horrible!! According to the pamphlet that we received when arriving, you must keep your pets locked either in the bathroom or a cage while you are out so the maids can come in and clean. We kept our dogs in the bathroom and even let the maid know that when we saw her in the hallway. However, she refused to clean our room. Finally after being there for 4 days with no maid service the floor was nasty from sandy feet (we also have kids) and our sheets needed to be changed along with new towels, I had to end up calling down to the front desk and requesting for someone to come clean our room. Finally at 6pm someone came and quickly (half) cleaned our room. After that we didn’t receive anymore maid service for the rest of the week. I had to go down to the front desk and exchange our towels so we could have a clean towel to shower with.

Our bathroom door in our room wouldn’t shut all the way, as well as it wouldn’t lock when you did get it shut. Not very idea when sharing a room with two kids and your needing privacy.

The hallway light had cobwebs hanging from it! When I saw that I should have known it wasn’t going to be the cleanest of places.

Most of the staff was friendly. Especially the front desk workers! I was very thankful for that, had they not been friendly I probably would have gone completely off.

You do receive some free vouchers to some of the local attractions which makes it really nice! However even with the friendly staff and it being dog friendly I will probably never stay there again. I was extremely...

Extremely Disappointed!!!

My wife and I were here the last week of September 2023. The pictures online were very misleading. Upon our arrival, our room was extremely filthy, and in major disrepair.

One of the windows had a large crack in it. The screen doors were missing from both patio entry ways as well as no shear curtains. The lock on the bedroom patio entryway was loose and missing a screw. Door knobs were loose. The kitchen sink faucet was very loose. The A/C units and exhaust fan were very loud. The refrigerator made a very loud noise every time it cycled on. Large water stains on the ceiling in the kitchen. Some of the wall receptacles were loose and seemed unsafe. The bath curtain rod was barely attached. The water pressure in the shower was extremely hard with no way to turn it down. We were never able to get hot water, just barely warm enough to get in the shower. There were way more issues, but moving onto the filth.

The floors were absolutely filthy with hair, grime, and a slippery oily layer that made it difficult to walk on the ceramic tile. The bathroom vanity drawers were extremely dirty with hair all over. The oven was so filthy, we didn’t feel comfortable using it to cook our food. The bed comforter and sheets were heavily stained with hair between the sheets. The couch was not cleaned to remove dog hairs and food crumbs from the previous occupancy both on top and under the cushions. Every surface in the unit was so filthy, it’s hard to believe that the cleaning staff ever cleaned anything with any real effort … the walls, countertops, cabinets, floors, appliances, baseboards, were all dirty, marked up, stained, etc.

We didn't ask them to come down and do any cleaning because we felt that if they didn't do it properly the first time, it wouldn't be done to our satisfaction the second time. We immediately made a run to the store to buy cleaning products and then spent over 3 hours cleaning it before we felt comfortable to unpack our suitcases.

In regard to being a dog friendly location, we found it very unsatisfactory when we taking our dog out to the bathroom. They have a very small area in the basement of the parking garage that had artificial grass in a space that was maybe 20 x 30‘. They also had a grassy area outside between the indoor pool and the beach but there were signs posted everywhere that the dogs couldn’t be in the area. In an effort to find a place for our dog to use the bathroom, we walked next-door to the public parking lot. This also wasn’t favorable because there was a group of people that always seemed to loiter around the area both day and night and we would see the same people every time we were out there.

We were scheduled to be there from check in on Sunday, to check out on Saturday, however, we left on Thursday because we just couldn’t bear it another day.

We’ll chalk this up as a learning experience, and never go there again, nor to that area again.

We would NOT recommend...
