I stayed at the Wyndham Garden Baronne at its old location and I loved it, so I had no issue with booking at their new location. Unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. The first think I noticed upon reaching the room was that the door to the room was severely water damaged. Not a good look, but I understand that New Orleans recently had a hurricane and being on the top floor there was probably damage from the storm. When I entered the room it was humid and warm, and as I started turning on lights I realized that there was no comforter on the bed and the rings on the light fixture, which I initially thought was dirty, were damaged. There was also no dresser, so I am just living out of my suitcase for a week. The room was reasonably clean. There wasn’t much in the way of hotel service. When I called the front desk for extra pillows I was told to come down to the front desk. I just think that, for a hotel that wasn’t full, this damaged room should have been filled only if there were none left. I grew up on the coast. I understand storm damage. I was just sorely disappointed as this is not what I expected from the Wyndham brand.
I shared the below on my social media:
Expectations vs Reality
I stayed at this hotel a few years ago when it was at a different location. It moved a few blocks, but I was happy to rebook since my ex and I had such a great experience the first time. There was a hotel bar, a little cafe that served breakfast and lunch, and a little store where you could purchase sodas, beer, snacks, and personal items. The rooms were nice and bright, and there was a fabulous outdoor patio.
When I arrived at the new location the lobby was attractive, if not a little dark (the previous location was so bright and welcoming). The person at the front desk was friendly. I got up to my room and the first thing I notice was water damage on the door to the room. Since I grew up on the coast I know how those things go, so I dismissed it. I only realized later that the side of the door looks like someone tried to break in with a crowbar. I got in the room and there is no exterior lighting (the window looks out to the hall), no dresser to put my non-hanging clothes, an old mesh office desk chair instead of anything comfy, and a broken light fixture that I mistook for dirty because the glue that was under the missing piece looks like old ear wax. I was tired so I figured these things were minor and I don’t feel confident that I would get a better room if I complained. Since check in I’ve realized that there is no pool (a criteria I searched for when looking for the hotel), no restaurant/cafe, no hotel bar for a quick drink, no nothing. When I called the front desk to request extra pillows they told me I had to come down to get them. When I requested my room cleaned, which I did first thing in the morning, they said it has to be requested 24 hours in advance. However there’s a business center (who needs a business center anymore???), a broken vending machine, and a ballroom, things that are barely if ever used, and therefore don’t require a lot of upkeep. If you just want a hotel room to crash in after being out on the town all day, this might be a fine place to stay, but if you’re looking for something even slightly luxurious you will want to...
Read moreThis is review of the Wyndham Barone Plaza Hotel located at 201 Barone St. New Orleans, LA 70112
This Wyndham property should be given a rating of 0-1 stars. One star because the lights go on the staff is friendly. The halls are dirty, the elevator is very dirty, and the bath towels are small. They clean the room and do not replace the towels and paper goods with the proper amounts. This was not a cheap hotel.
For the amount this hotel charges, do yourself a big favor and find a hotel in the area, spending a little more money so that you have an enjoyable stay in Nawlins!
The walls are so thin you can hear your neighbor guests talking in their rooms. You can hear “everything” from the adjacent rooms. The first day the room cleanup was skipped and not made up until we pointed it out to the manager Dashone, a very nice person who appears to have his hands tied by the owner (He did his very best). The second night we got back at 5 pm to get ready for a nice dinner and again the room had not been cleaned up.
One of the most DISGUSTING issues with this property is that on Sunday morning, I went down to the in house coffee shop to purchase coffee and 2 bagels. They sell bagels with butter or cream cheese. The person working there had 100% NO Utensils at all, and I had to use my fingers (I’m a health professional) to break the stick butter at the counter and then had to take to my room and we had to use our fingers to put it on the bagels. The butter I had to break at the counter was then put back in the fridge at the coffee counter and probably served to someone else. (A major health violation issue I will assume). When I asked the girl at the coffee counter she informed me that the owner keeps everything locked up until a manager arrives??? THIS IS DISGUSTING!!!! I then asked the front desk for a knife and they had none either. How does this hotel have the "audacity" to sell bagels and butter/cream cheese, charge for it and not provide any knifes to spread the butter??? I felt like I was paying to stay at a “no-frills” camp ground site with no amenities.
Then one morning to use the men’s room at 9am in the lobby and it’s locked? I was told that due to the large amount of homeless people? Why is there no security guard for the guests?
Then the final Monday morning we were there, I went to get coffee at the same counter and it was CLOSED???? I was told the staff member didn't show up?? I asked if anyone else can sell coffee and was told No…. so, then I had to go up, get my jacket, and walk to a different hotel to get coffee. What kind of customer service is this??
A guest picks a hotel based on amenities and other factors. Is it now easy to see that their website and info is basically all fraudulent as so much was not true
DO NOT PICK this hotel and this property’s ratings should be lowered to as low...
Read moreRUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!! Close your eyes and imagine the worst hotel possible. Now open your eyes and witness Wyndham Garden Hotel! Upon arrival, we were “greeted” (insert extreme sarcasm) by the extremely rude and unprofessional staff. In fact, when my friend questioned the receptionist about what all transactions were being swiped on her card, the woman at the front desk proceeded to tell her very rudely, “hold on, and let me finish what I’m doing.” After a good 30 minutes of waiting to be checked in, we proceeded to enter the parking garage which was more of an underground sewer than anything. The parking garage which charges twenty dollars a night is a complete rip off. First off, there is only one way to enter/leave. Yes you read right! Once you are in the parking garage you will then wonder how it’s even humanly possible to park your car safely without hitting one of the many poles and tightly packed cars. As if the parking garage isn’t bad enough, there is no elevator to get out of the garage, which means you must lug all of your belongings up two flights of stairs before you can get to the main floor of the hotel. Once in the hotel we proceeded to our rooms which looked nothing short of a dungeon. Between the nine of us, we had two rooms. In the first room, upon opening the door my friends were greeted by some not so friendly roaches and a window that had a view of what looked like section 8 housing. In the other room which had no window and only one light fixture, it smelled like the staff was just informed of our arrival and hurried up and sprayed their strongest bleach to clean up after the previous guests. As if the odor wasn’t bad enough the beds which were listed as queen size online, were more like a slightly bigger twin bed. And let me not forget to mention the lipstick stains, hair, and bug found on the beds. Thinking of eating at the restaurant in the hotel? Well don’t! First of all the chances of you getting to order your food is slim to none. We waited for about fifteen minutes without being waited on before deciding to get up and leave, but not without the linger of old chicken grease attached to our clothes! All in all as I stated above, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! This hotel isn’t worth one cent of your hard...
