In my Bonvoy profile, I have it listed that I always need a feather free room due to allergies. I've never had an issue with this in the past, but when checking in they said they were unable to see this info in my profile and my room would be ready in 1 hour. 1 hour came and went and my room was not ready. Came back and asked again and they said it would take another 2 hours. Again 2 hours came and went, came back and they said it would take another 1 hour to prepare my feather free room. Finally, it was done. Once in the room, we found it to be small. I'm a platinum member and no upgrade or gift was given. We were staying on points and near another non-Marriott hotel with family to stay close to them. Overall location of the hotel to attractions and restaurants was excellent. However, so many other things went wrong. The shower leaked through the door into the bathroom. First night they made up our room but did not change our towels. 3rd night we had been gone for the entire day only to get back at 11 pm ready to sleep and find that our room had not been made up at all and no towel changes. We were promised points for this final mishap but they never followed up after we left. I never write reviews or do surveys, but had to complete this one when offered. Worst hotel stay we have ever experienced.
As mentioned, the check in process was miserable. The front desk staff said that their system does not show a guest's profile for them to have our room defeathered ahead of time. This does not seem correct as I have never had a Marriot hotel tell me this before. Also,as far as where the issue resides outside of that system issue, it seemed to me that there was not a problem with the front desk staff, but with the housekeeping staff as the front desk communicated to have our room defeathered, but it wasn't happening. Also, the fact that we had 2 other days when our room was not made up properly or not made up at all indicates, again, another issue with housekeeping.
As I already mentioned, the room seemed small and smaller than we expected although we have never been to an AC brand Marriott hotel before. The shower leaked through the bottom of the door. This looked like it was a design flaw and we just dealt with it by putting towels on the leak and drying it up. It was more of a nuisance than anything else. But something that as hotel guests we shouldn't have to deal with. Room was by a window and was loud with a...
Read moreLet’s start with the good - the location is great for walking to nearly any destination in the FQ, 15-20 minutes to Frenchmen Street, 5 min to Bourbon Street, 20 min to the WWII Museum. It has easy access to several streetcar locations and bus stops for heading to Magazine street, the Garde District, or to City Park.
The hotel staff were all friendly and most seemed like they enjoyed being there.
The bad - the lobby elevator was out of order six of the seven days we were there. Luckily there were two other elevators down the hall. They require a keycard in order to go to any floor from the lobby. Unfortunately one of the two working elevators, the scanner didn’t work, so anyone could go up without a keycard.
The room had a whole other slew of issues: (1) the deadbolt on the door would not unlock after you opened the door unless you pulled the handle twice, even if the door was open (2) the room had a musty smell all week even though it only rained on the last couple of days (3) there were two windows, so it was nice to be able to see out to the street below, but both windows were so dirty, it was like looking through a church mosaic (4) the bathroom was so dimly lit, it almost required using a flashlight at times (5) there was no bathroom fan (6) the walls, what walls? It was like having paper for walls as we were able to hear all of our neighbor’s conversations, every single footstep, and whatever else they were doing (7) the location is a few blocks away from the noise of the streets, but because of the thin walls, if someone was bumping music anywhere outside you could still hear it (8) the ceiling seemed to have a leak at some recent point in time - although we didn’t see any leaking water, there was apparent water damage and also stains from the dripping on the furniture below it
All in all, this was probably one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at, but the location made it feel authentic. At least the sleeping...
Read moreI was really excited to stay at this hotel, located really conveniently in the French Quarter withing walking distance of Bourbon Street and all of the sights. The facade is beautiful and the lobby was clean and crisp upon entering. It's definitely modeling in a European style, and was very modern in decor.
Sadly, great first impressions were not continued. I ended up being really disappointed. When we checked in and went up to our room we were greeted with a really unpleasant smell of cigarette smoke. The room was an interior room, so no view of the outside (which was fine), but there was a small, weird interior window that looked out to the hallway. We definitely kept that closed the whole time we were there. The room was clean and the shower was really nice, but that's about all the room had going for it. The bathroom's door is glass, so when the light turns on at night it lights up the ENTIRE room. It was also incredibly hard to sleep at night, because it didn't seem like the hotel was all that insulated. We heard EVERYONE'S coming and goings, with door slamming, yelling, and stomping every night. It's to be expected while staying near Bourbon, but I have never experienced hotel walls that thin.
This is not a Marriott I would recommend to friends and family. I love Marriott hotels, and was really disappointed. The rates were insane for an interior room, so it was really just an incredibly expensive place to sleep. Check-out was an even worse process. I had a gift card that would have covered the majority of the stay in the room and was told to use it at check-out, but wasn't told a $276 deposit was already placed on my credit card at check-in. That's $276 I couldn't use on the gift card, which was upsetting. I would never have chosen to stay at this property if I had known I couldn't fully use the gift card.
All in all: don't bother. Find a different Marriott property in the area. There are...
