This was my review for the Renaissance in New Orleans. It is all over the place but most of it is there. We sincerely wished we would have stayed at one of the other Marriott Hotels in the city. This one was not up to ānormalā renaissance standards in our opinion.
The Hotel is much different than other Renaissance Hotels I have stayed at in the U.S., Europe and Asia. It seemed that everything was done at a minimum for example:
We arrived and there was no door greeter and we stood in the lobby for at least 10 minutes before we were able to ask someone to help us with our bags from the car. There was one person at the desk helping people and one person at the concierge desk not helping anyone. I asked the Concierge for help and she was pleasant and helped. The entire stay seemed to be like this though. The front desk/Concierge either was under manned or non existent with anyone. We Got to the room and there was a musty smell upon entering the room. Not bad but it was there and this is far from normal at any Renaissance previously stayed. Also, the room was just average in that ..... well the trim paint was shoddy and the drawers were not nice. They did not open easily and one we fought with for 10 minutes trying to close it. There was complimentary water but it was in a drawer and we did not find it until the third day. Odd that they would hide it and not put it in the open as a welcoming gift as is normally done. At least in site.
Positive of the room is that the room was good size and it was a typical (very nice) Renaissance bed/pillows! As mentioned in prior comment. The room we stayed in (1911) did not seem to be done at normal Renaissance standards. Felt old and the smell in the doorway was not normal for a Marriott R. The main entrance was nice and the bar around the corner along with the "lounging" around areas were very nice thought! I noticed that many families and friends would gather in those common areas as they very extremely stylish and comfortable with different types of seats, lay across sofas and other tables to play games, talk, or just hang out. Very nice!
Nothing special but nothing bad either.
There is no lounge but they do have a small room that Elite members can get coffee, chips, water/soda along with complimentary breakfast in the Mila Restaurant (BTW - this was one of the worst breakfast(s) we have had at ANY Marriott...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA nice hotel but was sadly disappointed by the experience. On checking in, it turned out that they gave my reservation to another person who had the same first name but different last name than me. They didn't realize this until I was at the door of the room, trying to get in but the key wasn't working. They gave me another room with no upgrade or compensation (I am a Marriott Gold member), although that didn't bother me, what I did find strange was that through my whole 4 night stay no cleaning service came to fix the room at all. I needed my car from the valet quite early in the morning each day. The 1st day I called about 20 minutes before and had no issues. The 2nd day, again I called 20 minutes before and they said we can't do that because the pick up area is full and I should come down early so I have enough time for them to get my car. The reason I'm calling ahead is so I can be downstairs at the time I need to be, and the car will be ready, so this was not helpful at all. The 3rd day, I called the night before to prevent the scenario from day 2, and they said to just call in the morning... I told them the situation from the day before and they said they will leave a note. Of course the next morning, my car is not there and again I am waiting for the valet. There is a restaurant downstairs which is just okay. What is convenient is that you can call to order from your room and then pick it up in 15-20 minutes downstairs. The menu provided in the room is outdated to the point where the number on the menu to call is wrong. I then had to call the room service line to reach them. After I ordered and specifically mentioned I will come downstairs to pick up the food, they brought the food to my room. They charge an extra $5 to deliver to your room, and the server was quite rude/sarcastic saying she can just bring the food back downstairs instead of just taking off the $5 charge. I didn't really care for her or the conversation so I just took the food. After my stay, they charged my credit card twice, for my current room and the room they gave away in the mix-up. I had to call and have them correct the charge. The hotel is quite nice, clean, and most of the staff friendly. However, all of the mess-ups really took away from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy stay was quite underwhelming to say the least. Usually I stay at the JW on canal, but this time I made a huge mistake and chose this hot mess hotel. Upon check in everything was smooth at the front desk, I came as a family of 4 & I was asked for a credit card and ID and sent up to the room. The elevators were old and raggedy, but I let it slide. The room was really small and outdated for the price of the hotel. The shower never got hot while we were there even when turned to the highest setting. The water pressure was extremely low and it was like taking a bird bath. On the first night there we came back from dinner and there was a huge party going on in the lobby that could be heard at least up to the 5th floor because I could hear it. The party lasted all night long and was extremely disruptive to my sleep. The hotel does not have any type of real "security" around. I walked outside to get breakfast alone and there were homeless people scattered all outside the front of the building. One man actually followed me back into the building where an altercation ensued with the hotel staff & he threw a flower pot inside of the hotel! That freaked me out, but I still tried to give this place a chance. Upon check out my bill was about $100 more than what it was when I reserved it online. When I asked what these extra charges were I was told Marriott now charges an extra $25 per night per person after the first two guest. This caught me completely by surprise! When I booked and said I had 4 people the price didn't change. I wasn't even told about this when I checked in (which according to Marriott policy was supposed to occur). When I disputed it with the hotel I got nothing but nasty attitude and awful customer service. I even got a poorly typed email that rubbed me the wrong way from one of the managers at the hotel. I've stayed at Marriott properties my entire life and never have I ever had as poor of an experience as I had here. I will be contacting corporate about my awful experience and I hope no one else has to deal with the people...
