I am so excited to share my experience at Aate Beauty Salon. I made an appointment for a digital perm and Min was my hairdresser. You can tell that he puts 110% into his work and cares a lot about his clients, their wants, and most importantly, their hair health.

When I arrived, Min thoroughly examined my hair and assessed my hair type and hair quality. I showed him the hairstyles that I wanted, but he said my hair wasn’t suitable for these styles. My hair is thin and extremely damaged at the ends (I was once a platinum blond). He explained that in order to get the best results, we would have to trim a chunk off the ends. Otherwise, the curls would not carry a prominent shape on hair as damaged as mine.

Although I felt disappointed, I highly respect Min for being up so transparent about what can and cannot be done with my hair. Other hairdressers might not be so honest and tell you what you would want to hear.

I was very reluctant about trimming my hair because I waited so long for it to grow out. Min was very understanding of my wants and he suggested to snip a tiny bit off the ends and add a bunch of layers.

In the end, I adored the results! It was sort of an edgy wolf cut without bangs. Min explained in great detail how to take care of my newly permed hair to secure the longevity of my curls.

Side note: In my opinion, the most pivotal trait of a hairdresser isn’t that they the best at their craft, but rather creative problem solving and really understanding their clients to ensure that all their needs are being fully addressed within preset limitations.

I would definitely recommend booking an appointment with Min at Aate...

-- I made an online appointment for my 12-year-old child at Aate Beauty Salon on 9/19. The salon advertised a kids' haircut for ages 6-12 at $55 (E4). I submitted my credit card information, agreeing to the $55 charge. On the day of the appointment, I arrived with my child for her haircut. Midway through the service, the owner, Soomi, informed us that her haircut would actually cost $90.

When I showed her my email confirmation of the $55 price for a kids' haircut, as well as the information on their squareup.com website, she rudely told us, "Then only pay $85." It wasn’t about getting $5 off—it’s about the ethics and professionalism of how Soomi runs her business, which I find very deceptive and unprofessional.

When I pointed out that we were not informed of the $90 price when making the reservation or before her haircut started in person, the quality of the service dramatically declined. My daughter's haircut was rushed, leaving her with uneven lengths in both the front and back. (Please see photos). They didn’t even bother drying her hair, so she left the salon with wet hair and a horribly done cut, which now I have to take her to someone else to fix.

If you’re considering this salon, be prepared to be scammed by Soomi and expect to be charged at least 50% more than what you signed up for! Positive reviews here are questionable. They lure you in with advertised prices, only to demand much more once you started the service. And if you question them, they will retaliate with terrible hair service. I’ve never had such an experience at any other Korean hair...

I am very very very very like seriously very picky with my hair style. I never found a single hair stylist who can cut my hair the way I wanted in my entire life. Either they do not understand the style or my hair I want or maybe I am bad at explaining. Anyway, Tiffany is the first one who gave the exact cut that I wanted!! I usually do not check my hair at the shop and always check after shower at home. It's pointless to check at the shop because the stylist will always try to make the hair look good with dryer or hair product. Then when you get home and after shower, you see your hair isn't the style that you saw at the shop.

BUT!! Tiffany gave the perfect hair cut for me. She understood my weirdly curved hair and made it easy for me to style correctly by myself. Exact the length ,exact volume. (You know they always cut hair shorter than you wanted!!?!?!) I've never been so excited about my hair cut! I never got so hyped about my hair!! She is the...

My boyfriend and I both got our hair done here. We were hanging out in NY for a couple days and I’ve been growing my hair out to donate and he wanted a bit more volume in his. It’s hard to find a place that does a nice wave perm at home so we picked Aate after looking at a couple others in NY. I reached out on Instagram, we talked about options via chat and then they called me to have a final consultation before scheduling. His hairstylist, Mimi, was so sweet and efficient. Soomi did mine and she was super knowledgeable. Helped me cut my hair within the donation standards. It was a major hair transformation - from really long hair to short hair with color underneath. I was so nervous since I haven’t had short here for a long time but it was easy to trust Soomi with my hair. From the cut to bleach to tone, it took a little over 4.5 hours. From beginning to end my experience was great! My color was $300 and cut was $95. I love my new hair!!
